"Nothing?" Jack responded, feeling suspicious and he wanted to inquire more but she prompted the information herself already. "Ah..." He raised an eyebrow, listening to her explanation. Her demeanor changed completely from before, gone was the irate expression and the anger, now she looked like a scolded child that knew it had done something wrong.

Jack took a deep breath and let it out slowly "Thank you, and I accept your apologies. You just need to know that it's dangerous for you to just go out like that. You should ask Gwen to take you to some places. I wouldn't want to see you get hurt." 'And I don't know if I can trust you...' He thought silently 'Not after that maniac...' Then he sighed "I know what it's like. Losing everything. Not having anyone trust you. But trust is something that's earned, not given. Just stick to my orders and if you prove you can do that, you'll get more liberties. Understood?"

The Master felt the Time Lady draw away, perhaps one of those humans talked to her. He sighed "Well, back to utter boredom..." He was somewhat surprised however to see the female human return. "Martha Jones... Missed me already?" He said with a sly grin as he looked to her, a bit amused. "How sweet of you."

He glanced down to his hand at the question. "Oh, it's fine, 'doctor'." The Time Lord replied, saying the last word in a mocking tone "Then again, at least you've studied, hm? He's not even a medical doctor... Gods, he was a horrible student at the Academy. Barely passed, he even failed his TARDIS flying exam... but I think you knew that one already." He explained while holding up his hand for her to see. Well, if she could see it properly anyway through that dirty glass. "By the way, why did Jack suddenly call you away? Something happened? Just ... curiosity, you know. It's not like I haven't got anything else to do here. Maybe you could get me some things, no?"

He looked a bit thoughtful "Just something to occupy myself with besides staring at the walls, listening to the voices in my head and all... They get annoying after a while. Let me guess, Jack wouldn't let you give me anything electronic out of fear I'll make a weapon of mass destruction out of it, right? Maybe a book then? I like your history books, they're hilarious..."
John smirked as he watched as Mara explained what she was doing for Torchwood. She certainly knew how to make the most average explanation cute with the way she moved parts of her body, such as her head and lips. “Of course I remember…I have the scars to prove you shouldn’t…remember?” John said with a soft laugh before he glanced at Jack.

You didn’t? Oh, oh right…you hired him because of that delicious coffee he makes too, right? Only thing he seems to be good at: Hot coffee.” He said with a small smile. Mentally however he wondered if he should be teasing Jack about his employees like he was doing…nah, the b*****d deserved whatever thoughts came to mind for leaving him like he did. And then having the gull to continue to resist him…ah well, he had his promising little Mystery-girl demanding his attention.

Looking back down at Mara when he felt her squeeze his hand, he gave her a smirk of encouragement. “You’ll pull through, love. I have no doubt you will…” He said before he glanced at Martha, nodding at her before he watched at Jack left. The rouge Time Agent frowned, his eyes narrowing as he slipped his arms under Mara and scooped her up in his arms. “Come on; let’s get you to your room then, hm? Then I’ll have a…talk…with your Captain.” He said, he smirking slightly as he continued to eye the stairs.

Vworp, vworp, vworp…

The sounds of the TARDIS as they materialized in Cardiff outside of the hidden base echoed through the square until the large, blue police box had appeared in it’s entirely. Not two seconds later the doors opened and stepping outside, the skinny Time Lord, known as the Doctor, looked around before he patted the doorframe of his time machine.

Earth…in a familiar time with familiar people in it…just what he needed at the moment. Not that he would let on that he needed this visit to Torchwood, to see Jack…to see him and to hope that he could feel a little less lonely then he was feeling at the moment. After leaving Donna with no memories of their journey together after she had pretty much single-handedly saved the universe from the Dalek, he had wandered. Just…wandered, helping those he came across; just trying to do stuff he enjoyed doing. In fact, he had just come back from a rather lovely 1851 Christmas evening.

And now? Now he was missing the connection of those he had a connection with…and maybe he could hope to have a nice chat with the only other Time Lord that was left.

“Hope he’s been taking good care of you Master…and not been letting his feelings about you get in the way of it.” He chirped as he closed the TARDIS door, locking it, before he turned and looked around. He whistled to himself, the Doctor keeping his mind closed off for the moment. He didn’t need the Master knowing he was here. He didn’t want his voice inside of his mind until he was ready to hear his accusing banter.

As he made his way to the lift and started down, he looked around, his trade-mark grin on his face before he called out when the lift reached the bottom. "Hullo! Hello, anyone there?" He called cheerfully.

Mara flinched a little as John picked her up, trying not to move too much. Her room. Right. That posed a small problem. Technically, she lived with Ianto, but also technically, Ianto lived in a one-bedroom flat an annoyingly long way from the Hub. Damn, how did he manage to be EARLY when she was always half-asleep when she stumbled in behind him? The man was an enigma and a downright frustrating one at times. So the question stood: where to go? Not like she had her equipment at home; she and her flat-mate shared a computer that was constantly low on hard-drive space. Not good when she still wanted to work but wouldn't go into the field.

"Just put me at my workstation," she told John as she fidgeted to take pressure off the tight stitches. "I'll be-- Oh my God!" She had just heard The Doctor's voice, echoing through the Hub. She turned her head so fast the stitches pulled tight again and she winced. But the blood in her veins seemed to turn to ice. Dammit! God's timing was not on her side today. Mara looked over to where Ianto had been standing (and was now missing, going to find the source of the voice) and stared, remembering the face. Her heart clenched for John Hart and it clenched for the Doctor as well. 'I'm gonna pass out again,' she thought weakly and gripped John's shoulder a little tighter for support.

Ianto had heard the voice in the atrium and watched the lift descend, bearing the man Ianto almost immediately took to be The Doctor. He didn't know why; he'd never seen the man in person or a photo. But Mara had talked about him a lot as they lay in bed together (not sexually). He put out his hand. "Welcome to Torchwood. I'm Ianto Jones."
“Alright Jack…I promise that I will do whatever it takes to gain your trust.” Isabel agreed, picking her head up so that she was now looking at him again. Now the foundation had been set. So long as she agreed to behave herself, she should have Jack ready to trust her in no time. Hopefully, the Time Lord she had been communicating with would be able to wait patiently. Not that he would have a choice in the matter.

“Who knows? You might actually come to like me. I do tend to grow on people…” A melody filled laugh followed Isabel’s joke as she nudged Jack playfully in the arm. Now, Isabel was determined be as friendly as she could be, of course without it being fake. After all, she wasn’t about to let anyone know that she was up to anything.

“I’m going to head back inside. It’s getting a little cold out here…and I kind of want some of that coffee Ianto makes. Besides, I’m sure you and Gwen have some stuff to catch up on.” Isabel gestured to the brunette that had been watching their exchange with both confusion and amusement. With a small wave and a smile, Isabel headed back into Torchwood. The moment she was out of sight of the two, the warm, friendly smile that had appeared on Isabel’s face had fell into a smirk.

‘Now to become the best little Time Lady I can be…’ Isabel thought slightly amused as she entered the main hub. She stopped suddenly when she realized a new person who she had never seen in Torchwood or anywhere else before. He was a lot taller than she was, with a thin frame and brown locks that sat somewhat disobediently on his head. A shiver ran down her spine as the hairs on the back of her neck began to stand. She didn’t know why, but she felt something familiar about him…something a little too familiar.

‘He couldn’t be…could he…’

Despite how hard she tried to ignore it, the words ‘Time Lord’ began to ring in her head over and over again. She could already feel tears beginning to weld up in the corners of her brown eyes. She went from being the only Time Lord to being one in three, the information was making her a little dizzy. Ianto’s voice managed to snap Isabel out of her trance, causing her to put on a quick smile.

“Yes…we….welcome.” Isabel whispered nervously as she continued to examine the Doctor with a cautious stare.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To say that Gwen was surprised was an understatement. She had expected Isabel to come to her senses but she really wasn’t expecting her to come around so quickly. As long as she has known the young Time Lady, she had always been dragging her feet when it came to listening to Jack, but all of the sudden she was so polite and apologetic. Some thing wasn’t sitting right with the ex-police officer. All she could do was wish that whatever Isabel was planning wasn’t something that would destroy Torchwood.

“So Jack, what happened? Is everything okay?” She asked after watching Isabel head back inside. Gwen was thinking about stopping her, however it seemed as though whatever was bothering her had passed and she was now back to her normal self.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Martha ignored the Master’s comments, especially when it once again began to turn towards the Doctor. She knew that he knew that the Doctor hadn’t shared information about himself with her. Especially when it came to his time back on his planet. Deep down it irked her how the Doctor was so quick to ask for a person’s trust, however when it came to him to give a little…he was very stingy. The Doctor found her trustworthy to save the world, but when it came to trusting her with something personal; he tended to change the subject with a goofy grin and a laugh.

“I’m glad that you’re hand is alright,” Martha said after a moment of silence. After taking in his request for something to do, Martha began to think about what she could give to him that would keep him busy. The Master was right about one thing. Jack wouldn’t allow her to give him anything electronic, seeing as how even an MP3 player could be dangerous in his hands. Books on the other hand were made of paper and couldn’t be all that harmful.

“I’ll check up stairs and see if there is anything up there for you…” Without so much as another word, Martha headed back upstairs in order to find something for the Master to do that would keep him busy and wouldn’t be destructive in his hands.
The Master watched Martha leave without even telling him what had happened up there. Not that he had really expected her to answer, but still... "Well, you're absolutely no fun..." He said with an irritated huff and a pouting look. He hated being stuck in this place and he hated being bored, with the drums to drive him insane...-er.

Then he looked up when he sensed something, like a little tug at his mind. Whatever it was, it piqued his interest, and he stood up and paced the little cell. He bristled at the thought that he, a mighty Time Lord, was being treated like a caged animal. Well, he'd been pretty pissed off about it ever since he was placed in it but that didn't really stop him from ranting about it once in a while. Not like there was anything else to do.

The Time Lord halted when he realised what it was that he felt. The only TARDIS left in existence... weeelll, save for his own, which was lost somewhere in the Silver Devastation after he had to abandon it to hide as a human from the Daleks. He groaned softly thinking about it. Why the hell hadn't he gone back to look for it? Oh, yes, coordinates were locked, heh. But now how was he going to get to the year one hundred billion all the way over there... Maybe the Doctor could give him a ride if he could convince him he'd mended his ways and was a good little boy now? Nah, even he couldn't be that stupid...

However, that made him realise the Doctor had to be here... no doubt to visit his pet freak. 'Oh, wait a minute...' That meant he was going to run into that Time Lady, who would no doubt tell him all about the poor Time Lord imprisoned down here, at which point the Doctor would tell her all about him. Oh, bollocks, there went his escape plan... "Damn it all to Oblivion!" The Master cursed, throwing a frustrated kick against the glass door of his cell.

"Good. And, er, yeah, who knows." Jack responded with a friendly smile that didn't quite reach his eyes, to Isabel's reassurance about trust and how he might come to like her. "Yeah, sure. Oh, and try not to lie down on the floor anymore, we seem to have an infestation of sewer rats lately, so... that floor might not be so clean." He said with a small grin as he watched her go inside. Time Lord or human, the prospect of rodents or their filth would disgust and/or scare off any girl.

The Captain turned to Gwen "She really switched gears, huh? Keep an eye on her, Gwen. If she does anything out of the ordinary, you tell me." He cast a last glance at the retreating Time Lady, then looked back to Gwen at her question "Mara was injured by a Nostrovite, so we brought her back here and Martha treated her. She's okay now." He explained in brief, appearing distracted by an odd sound in the air. A sound like a barrel organ with emphysema. Despite this, Jack grinned like a schoolboy that spotted a free stash of candy, and sprinted up the stairs from the dock to get onto the plaza.

His grin widened seeing the familiar blue box standing there, then he noticed the elevator at the monument had gone down. Ah, he'd already gone down, probably thinking the immortal was down there.. well, he'd be there in a moment. He went back down to the dock, glanced to Gwen. "Come on." He told her in passing and went inside. Jack reached over the counter, opened the secret doorway and went down into the hub.

"Doctor!" The Captain greeted the newly-arrived Time Lord with a look of genuine happiness at seeing this man, something that was very rare indeed in the immortal. For a very careful observer, there was something like admiration, or even adoration in his eyes, like someone meeting their hero. Or someone they had a big crush on, which looked even stranger on the man that called himself a 'sex god'. Then he seemed to notice there were other people, his team, in here and his expression changed to a normal friendly grin as he walked up to the Doctor and held out his hand to shake "Good to see you again, Doc. What brings you to our little corner of the universe?"
John raised his eyebrow at Mara’s suggestion that he just put her in her workstation, but nodding; he shifted the girl in his arms and walked back upstairs to head to the said area. Not the most comfortable spot, he thought, but if that’s where she wanted to be dumped...At her outcry though, he paused and stared at her.

“What?” The rouge Time Agent asked as he frowned. What was with her shocked, though rather pained, expression about? Was it because of that voice? Looking towards the direction that the disgustingly cheerful voice echoed from, John simply took Mara back to her workstation and placed her back down. “What’s with the face?” he asked as he touched the top of her head and then stepped back. “…someone you know, Mara?” he asked as he chewed on his lip. Mmm…by the sound of it, it wasn’t someone that was in Torchwood a lot either, if the greeting was to go by anything. Interesting…

~

The Doctor blinked when the suited Welsh approached him, but grinning even more broadly at his greeting, he reached out and grabbed Ianto’s hand and shook it heartily. “Hello there! Ianto?...Ah! Ianto! You much be Jack’s Ianto. Brilliant, you’re chubbier then I thought you would be…Oh wait…that was rude, sorry! Is the Captain here?” He rambled quickly, he still shaking the other man’s hand as he spoke.

He stopped though at the whispering little voice and jerking his head in Isabel’s direction, he stopped and stared. “Wha…” He mumbled softly, his smile gone as his lips parted slightly, before he let go of Ianto’s hand unceremoniously. “…hello..” he said, the Time Lord turning to face the smaller Time Lady. “…are you…” he mumbled as he continued to examine Isabel and was only jerked out of his observations by a familiar greeting.

“Captain!” The Doctor said as he turned and grinned once again, this smile warmer than the one he had gave Ianto. He was excited to see one of his ex-companions and reaching out; he took the immortal’s hand and shook it happily. “Good seeing you as well, Jack and oh...you know. Just visiting my favorite little planet is all. Thought I stop in on this time, visit you...check on our special someone….” The alien said, he giving Jack a questioning look at the last bit.

“Ianto here was just greeting me…but…who is this?” The Doctor asked as he glanced at Isabel and nodded at her before he looked back at Jack again, grinning wildly as he bounced to another topic. “How have you been anyway? And him? How is he doing? You are taking good care of him, right?” He asked.

Ianto flushed a little at The Doctor's greeting and looked back at Jack. That adoration wasn't one he'd seen in a while in the Captain's face. His cheek burning in a different way, he turned. "I'll go check on Mara, shall I?" Come to think of it, he should probably go find Gwen and Gabe too. As he walked away without a backward glance, he tapped the Comm. "Gwen, where are you?" he asked.

Mara struggled out of her chair, not an easy task without her right arm. She staggered a little, clutching the desk to steady herself, looked at John for a moment before swallowing, looking down into the atrium to see The Doctor, Jack, and Isabel. Her knees turned to water. He was really here. But why was he here? Her heart tightened her throat, and she looked back over to John, tearing away her attention.

"He's a Time Lord," she told him, "who goes by The Doctor. I know him.... somehow." She rubbed the back of her head. "I just don't know how." Not for the first time, she fought to recall something before coming to Torchwood, but all she summoned was pain throughout her body and John's hand out for her. Recalling the condition in which she'd been found made her head hurt, and she shook it to clear her thoughts. "My memory still fails before you found me," she admitted.
Jack winced a bit mentally glancing to Ianto. But at least the man knew that Jack had chosen to remain with them instead of travelling with the Doctor, right? Then why did he still have the feeling of the ex meeting the new partner... but not that he ever was with the Doctor in such a way and... argh, better not dwell on such matters. He would talk to Ianto later. The captain turned back to the Doctor "Just a little visit? Really, no Dalek or Cybermen or Slitheen invasion, no? Wow, that's a first. I should write that down in my diary." He chuckled but his grin soured a little at the mention of the 'special someone'. Ah, of course.

He looked to Isabel at the question "I, er... this is Isabel. She's one of your lot. A Time Lady that somehow survived the Time War too..." Jack looked back to the Doctor at his further stream of questions "Oh, well, you know me, I'm always fine." He said while putting a hand on the Doctor's shoulder and leading him further away to talk more privately.

Once he was satisfied no one would be listening in, he answered the Time Lord's questions. "He's fine, physically." Mentally, anything but, he thought with a sigh. "But Isabel, and actually, everyone else isn't supposed to know about him, he's too dangerous. They don't know what happened in that year, and well, you know how persuasive he can be. Anyway, Martha is taking care of him, actually." He mentally added 'Because I would beat him into a bloody pulp if I was doing so...' Then he continued "Anyway, if you really want to see him, he's down in corridor 3A, but I can't recommend it. He is not going to be happy to see you, really."
A dream.

That was what it felt like to see the Doctor standing before her. She had always held out the hope that there was another Time Lord out there, traveling between the seas of time. Isabel’s emotions were already running high from the first discovery of another time lord and with the introduction of the second one before her, Isabel could feel herself becoming overwhelmed.

“uh…yes…I am…” Isabel stuttered, responding to the Doctor’s broken sentence as she shortened the gap between them. She wasn’t sure what to do. Should she hug him? Ask him questions? There were just so many things that she wanted to do, but she wasn’t sure where to begin.

Suddenly, as if possessed by some force, Isabel brought her fingers up and gently touched his face. Her warm fingers traced along his cheek bones, getting a feel of the smooth skin under hers. All the while, a tearful smile worked its way to her face. Just as she was about to open her mouth and say something, Jack’s voice interrupted her. She pulled her hand away quickly and stepped back just as Jack had pulled the Doctor away.

The smile now gone from her face, Isabel headed towards the computer that once belonged to Toshiko and began to play on the system’s mainframe.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gwen was just about to follow Jack when she felt here a familiar Welsh voice in her ear. She could hear a little strain in his voice, and was curious about what would have caused it. “Hey Ianto, I am Just outside of Torchwood with Gabe.” Looking down at the limp body by her feet, she noticed that he hadn’t so much as lifted a finger yet. Worry began to fill her eyes as she began to wonder when he was going to wake up and what would cause such a reaction from him in the first place.

“He looks like he’ll be out for a while, do you think you can come up here and give me a hand?”

‘War and Peace?…. No, he would fly through that in a second. Maybe I should give him a copy of Vogue..?’

The thought of the maniac Time Lord reading about fashion tips and how to look a size smaller made Martha giggle a little in amusement. She had just spent that last couple of moment trying to find anything that could keep the Master occupied but wouldn’t be a danger in his hands. While she managed to find a few historic books, Martha wasn’t sure if they would be enough to keep him entertained for very long. Just as she was about to continue on her search for literature, Martha paused when she heard the voice of the Doctor ringing throughout the walls of Torchwood.

‘It couldn’t be…’

Martha picked up the books she collected, along with the Vogue magazine, and left the small she was in. Peaking around the corner, Martha could see the back of the Doctor, who was currently occupied with talking to Jack. While the same warm feeling she got when seeing him began to form, but there was another feeling that was beginning to appear. A feeling that she couldn’t put her finger on, but it felt so negative…so dark. All of the words the Master spoke began to fill her head as the negative feelings began to grow a little more.

‘If I can just get to that door, I could slip past without him even seeing me…’
Careful to keep out of sight, Martha tried her best to slip past the Time Lord and Ex- Time Agent, hoping that the two wouldn’t notice her.
The Time Lord blinked at the tone in Ianto’s voice when he said he was going to go check on Mara..Mara…that name sounded a little familiar…ah it was probably someone he met once upon a time. He did meet a lot of people after all. Anyway, back on Ianto’s tone: The Doctor was getting the distinct feeling of jealousy. Now why would the human be feeling that? Strange, but interesting none the less. He just hope it wouldn’t affect how the man acted around him…he would hate to be in bad standing with Jack’s team mate.

Turning his attention back on the Immortal, the Doctor grinned at his questions. “Nope, no Dalek, just got done dealing with some Cybermen so I do hope they’re not around, and no Slitheen that I know of. “ He said cheerfully, chuckling at Jack’s diary comment. But…uh oh…taking note of Jack’s soured expression, but keeping his goofy grin on his face, the Time Lord sighed mentally. Jack was still angry at the Master…with good reason of course, but….maybe it was a bad idea leaving the only other-

“Wait…did you just say….” The Doctor whispered as he jerked his head back in Isabel’s direction, gawking at her before he flinched slightly when she touched his face. He half expected her hand to pass through him, like she wasn’t real…but she was… “You’re…” He whispered, reaching his hand up to touch the back of her hand, still staring about to reach out mentally to her before he felt Jack’s hand on his shoulder and was led away.

A Time Lady…another Time Lord…oooh…He felt like he could break down in tears and happily hug the girl to him at that news. First the Master and now this girl…he had so many questions for her. Like how she managed to survive. He wondered what her name was, or what her chosen name was even. Isabel was certainly an Earth name she was going by…Grinning broadly, he turned his attention back on Jack as he shifted from foot to foot, giddy with joy now. Business first though.

That’s wonderful to hear…but…hmm..yes, good call Captain, especially with your human team..who knows if the Master would try to take advantage of them and try to get them to let him go…he behaving himself though, not being to evil is he?” The Doctor jabbered quickly. “And Martha is here?! Brilliant!” He cried before he blinked and frowned a little at Jack’s suggestion.

“Yeah…I know he won’t be thrilled to see me…but I should still see him…I’m the only other…well…only other Time Lord that knows about him…he needs at least a little similar company. “ He said as he pulled from his pocket a bag of jelly babies. “I’ve even brought a token of peace for him…” He said with a soft smile before his grin returned and he stuffed the bag of candy back in his pocket.

“I think I’ll go see him before I go speak with Isa-Martha!!” The Doctor cried happily, he about to turn to go find the cell block the Master was being held in when he caught sight of Martha from the corner of his eyes. “Jack said you were here! How are you?!” He said as he bounced over and enveloped the woman in a friendly and warm hug. “How’s your husband? Been good? Yes? No? Still, it’s brilliant to see you! You’re looking marvelous by the way!” He said as he stepped back, his hands going to his pockets again.

~

John raised an eyebrow before he grinned slowly. “A Time Lord?...I thought they were just a myth…” He said softly before he glanced at Mara. “He goes by ‘The Doctor’ then?…odd name…” He muttered with a soft laugh as he looked back down, watching Jack’s face. Ahh…there was something there behind his expression. Joy and deep adoration at seeing this ‘Time Lord’…

Interesting…”Do you know Jack’s relationship towards this man? They seem to know each other…” John commented before he stepped back, moving to Mara’s side. “You should sit by the way.” He said.

Ianto's face relaxed into a small, indulgent smile. At least Gwen was all right when everything seemed to be turned on its head. "I'll be down in a minute," he promised, already walking up the stairs to the tourist information bureau. As he brushed the wall walking through the entrance from the Hub, he grimaced. Not because he was in pain (physical anyway), but because the Hub was beginning to feel claustrophobic with John Hart and this Doctor, whoever he was. Also, he was beginning to doubt Jack's attentions; how could he not when he'd seen the look on the captain's face? Locking away his emotions as always (but still feeling a bit down), he made his way toward Gwen and Gabe.
"What happened?" he asked, kneeling to examine Gabe for physical trauma.

Mara shook her head, ignoring his suggestion. "I don't know," she said. "Jack never told us anything about his past, not even Ianto." She leaned on the balustrade that separated the workstations from the sparse entrance of the Hub, watching the exchange below. She wondered idly why Jack had hired her anyway, if her memory was so heavily compromised. Yes, she was good at what she did, but a serious case of retrograde amnesia usually dealt a serious blow to one's work integrity. "I hope it's not a romantic relationship though. I don't want to see Ianto hurt. He cares so much for Jack." Her hand moved up to her injured shoulder, effectively communicating her nervousness. Violet eyes turned back to John. "I forgot to thank you for staying with me while Ianto brought round the SUV."
Jack noticed the exchange between the two Gallifreyans, and felt a little bad for pulling the Doctor away from Isabel, but he had to make absolutely sure that Isabel would know nothing about the Master. "Sorry about that, I wanted to talk to you about Isabel earlier, I've told her about you. Don't think she believed me for a while. Anyway, you can talk with her as much as you like later."

"Not being too evil?" He repeated after the Doctor's question. To be honest, he didn't think that horrible creature could be anything but evil, but seeing how much, for some reason, the psychotic Time Lord meant something to the Doctor, he didn't really dare say that aloud. He knew it would just serve to hurt him. "He's been... quiet lately, I guess. Bored, mostly. At least he hasn't tried an escape attempt in ... oh, about two weeks now."

And if he was even more honest, it kind of hurt him that this monster meant so much to the Doctor, while he was... 'He finds it far easier to look at me than at you, freak.' The Master had once jabbed at him during his imprisonment. Martha nearly had to break out the tranquillizers to get Jack off the Time Lord then. An impossible thing, yes, and apparently, felt wrong to the Doctor, or heh, any Time Lord's senses... maybe that was why he couldn't really get along with Isabel.

Jack sighed mentally at those thoughts. Yes, the Doctor had said something about him and the Master having a loooong history, but still... He couldn't forgive the man. The people may not have truly died, since they all came back, but he had still killed them. When you could destroy the entire population of Earth with manic glee and not a spot of remorse, one was beyond redemption in the Captain's eyes.

"Right... good luck with that." The immortal replied with a complete lack of enthusiasm at the Doctor's suggestion of giving the Master candy. 'The last thing I need is that b*****d on a sugar high...' He thought with a mental groan. He was surprised to see Martha having come up here. The captain's smile returned as he watched the Doctor greet the human doctor. "You okay, Martha? He's not being too much trouble again, is he?"
Martha barely had enough time to brace herself for the Doctor’s over powering hug, dropping the books onto the floor just before she found herself wrapped in his arms. Although she returned the hug, it didn’t have the same warmth as the other pervious hugs she had given him. Thanks to the Master’s words, Martha could help but feel a small wall coming up around her, slowly closing herself off from the Doctor.

When she felt him pull away in order to get a god look at her, Martha gave him a friendly smile, hoping that it would be enough to fool the Doctor into thinking that she was alright. How could she tell him that she knew about what really happened to his planet? How could she admit that the once perfect image she had of her beloved Doctor had been perverted by a few crass words from his enemy.

“I am doing well. Tom is doing alright as well. Yes I have been good…well as good as anyone can be here. And thank you, you look great too!” Martha answered every single one of his questions, finding it easier to keep up with his ever racing mind. She found it almost comical how the response managed to come out almost as quickly as his questions did.

“He has been behaving Jack, in fact I was just heading back down with some books to keep him preoccupied.” Turning her attention to Jack for a moment in order to respond to his question, Martha bent down and began to pick up the books that had been scattered on the floor at her feet.

“Well…” Gwen began as she followed Ianto’s tall frame with her eyes, “At first everything was alright…Isabel and Jack were snipping away at each other as usual. Then, after I sent her inside, she ended up going into some sort of weird trance and placed her head down on the ground over there…” Pointing with her finger, Gwen highlighted the area were Isabel had her body pressed against the floor.

“Before I could see what was wrong with her…Gabe stared to blurt out some rather weird things. None of it made sense to me…:” She stopped for a moment, about to let it slip that Jack seemed to recognize the gibberish that was coming from Gabe, however she wasn’t all that sure if she was right in her hunch or not. Crouching down to get a closer look at Gabe, she was glad to see that at least he was no longer screaming.

“He started to scream and thrash about…as if her were in pain. Then a few moments later…he had passed out and Isabel was back to her old self.”
The Doctor had pouted a little when he heard that the Master was bored, but what could he expect from a man whose mind was just like his own. Being trapped in a human cell with little to do had to be maddening. It was for the renegade Time Lord’s own good though…

Blinking at Jack and then Martha when the Captain mentioned the Master though, he grinned widely and ducked as he swiped up one of the fallen books. “Oooh…European history of the seventeenth century…decent bunch of years over all…these for the Master? Oh, can I come with you? I was about to go see him anyway! Oh, cell blocks this way right?” The Doctor asked quickly as he pointed towards doorway he knew the cellblocks were located in.

I think I’ll just pop down there for a moment, say hi, and then come back up and talk with Isabel. Can I have a key, oh, well; I have my screwdriver after all. Be right back!” The Time Lord said as he turned and sprinting towards the door and down to the cell blocks. Dashing up to the cage that held his kin and former friend, he skidded to a stop and beamed at the Time Lord behind the clear wall.

“Master!” He said before he coughed and composed himself, he closing his mind off to the other Time Lord as he folded his hands in front of him, his finger tapping lightly against the book. “…how have you been, Master?” he asked softly after a moment of looking the other man over, taking in the sight of him.

Oh, Teaboy…well, you have to worry about Jack quite a bit if that’s your worry…The Captains a bit of a slut…” John said as he walked over and leaned on the balustrade as well. “He bounces from partner to partner, even before they’re ready for him to leave…” he said softly. Glancing at the girl when she spoke again, he stared into those violet eyes before he grinned.

“Oh, you’re quite welcome, darling.” He said before he added cheekily. “You can make it up to me when that arm of yours gets better…speaking of which…Sit down, now.” He ordered.
"Alright then. I suppose even he can't do much wrong with books..." Jack replied to Martha. He looked at the Doctor at the Time Lord's cascade of words, finding it impossible to get in a word of his own. "Er... a key? Wait, Doctor, you aren't planning to open the cell door, are you!?" He yelled after the alien, right now not really caring who might hear, as he was appalled at the thought of giving the psychopath an opportunity to attack the Doctor. "Oh god..." He groaned and looked aside to Martha "I don't know if we should either give them a moment alone, or follow right after with horse tranquillizers."

The Master was glaring at the opposite wall, sitting upon the bench, when he heard someone approach. At first he guessed it would be Martha bringing the requested books, but then he noticed the person was running, apparently very eager to see... Oh, bollocks. His eyes narrowed as he heard the annoyingly cheerful greeting of his name and could even see the shiny big smile in the corner of his eye.

"Do I know you?" He bit angrily and turned his head to look at him. The hateful glare he sent to him betrayed that fact that he obviously did recognise the Doctor, but that was not the point. Any joy he might have in seeing the only other Time Lord in existence, beside one Time Lady he hadn't seen yet, an old friend and long-time enemy, was drowned out by the anger about having been left here, stranded like a dog tied up to a tree next to the road. At least the dog had less stench to deal with and watching cars drive by seemed even more appealing than this view. Wait, where the hell were his thoughts going? Gods, this man riled him up so much.

He scoffed at the question, looking back to the wall and absently scratching at the bandage on his hand "Just peachy." He said with dripping sarcasm. "What the bloody hell do you think!?" He yelled out suddenly, standing up and slamming his hand against the glass as he stepped in front of the Doctor "This place is worse than the end of the universe! At least there I wasn't woken up in the middle of the night with rats crawling over me and having to make sure they didn't start nibbling on me! Hell, even I treated you better than this in that year."
