The Doctor’s face fell a little at the Master’s cold greeting, but he kept his composer. After all, what could he expect? He has left the Master in Jack’s care, to be imprisoned for his own good…for the good of the universe. He seemed to have had to do that a lot with the Master: lock him away for everyone’s well being…it didn’t mean that it didn’t hurt to watch his old friend, watch the Master’s mind churning behind those dark eyes, the hate and anger burning there.

The old Time Lord’s brows snapped down as the Master’s words that he had awake with rats… “You’ve really had to watch out for rats?!” he asked in frowned. He looked around the Master cell and found to be lack luster at best. “…you don’t even have a bed…” he muttered, he frowning a little more. “Not even a blanket…and...well...you did turn me into an old man, after all. I had to deal with lost of hearing, slight blindness, the aches, the pains of old joints...though you're right...at least I got a little tent with a blanket to cover up with....” He added before he shook his head and stepping closer to the glass, he reached up and touched his finger to the area the Master’s hand was at.

“I brought you something that might cheer you up for a little while…” he said softly as he fished the candy out of his pocket again and held it up. “…Can I give it to you? Martha's also bringing you some books down...you remember Martha Jones right? Of course you do, you've had her taking care of you no doubt...” he asked softly.

((Wow, I feel inadequate with how little I post. >.<;; The characters just won't come to me!! crying I promise I'll try to post more, but I'm a girl of so few words and movements..... *le sigh*
And for those who realize an MRI will probably really screw up some of Gabe's circuits..... Remember, no one knows about him being a cyborg.))

Ianto heaved a heavy sigh. Gabe didn't seem too terribly injured, just unconscious. If he could be taken down to the MRI Mara had had the foresight to install, they could get a better look at him. Therein lay a difficulty; Ianto and Gwen were not (admittedly) the strongest of the Torchwood team. Assuming Gabe was stable enough, though, Ianto could dash down and fetch a stretcher or gurney from the medical bay. Better yet, he could grab Jack and Martha if they were through with the Doctor.
Ianto frowned. He had no illusions that he wasn't jealous, but he was still slightly disgusted with himself for such a reaction. Jack wouldn't leave him so early, would he? Pushing that thought back into his mind, he looked at Gwen. "Can you run down and fetch Martha? Have her bring a gurney up."

Mara shook her head; she never liked being treated delicately. Injury had never slowed her down before. But when the simple act of shaking her head made her dizzy, she had to acquiesce and turned away from the balustrade. However, before she moved to sit down, she pressed her good hand to his cheek and placed a kiss to his lips. Immediately after pulling away, she felt terribly embarrassed. How could she be so transparent with her affections? "Jack," she called over the railing, "have you got a minute?" Mara turned back to her desk chair and sat in the worn seat, letting the springs groan a little, testing the mend to her shoulder. By the slight pain she felt with the bite of the tightening stitches, she guessed nothing was too badly damaged for him.
"I worry about Jack," she confessed. "He always seems so alone. At least when I see him; I'm not sure about Ianto."
((Yikes o_o A cyborg would get torn to shreds in an MRI, and it would most likely destroy the very expensive MRI too...
Jack: D=> We don't that big a budget! Noez!))

"Erm, yeah, we're in a bloody sewer!" The Master snapped at him in the comment about the rats. "Quite a step down from 10 Downing Street, isn't it?" He eyed the bag of candy and scoffed "Right, just give it to Miss Jones, my 'zookeeper'. Then she can give me a treat when I'm good later." He said in a biting tone.

"And of course I remember her. You're the old man here, in your 10th regeneration, not me. I'm only in the second of my new set right now. I'll probably even outlive you, heh. And besides, how could I forget her? It's because of her I'm not Lord and Master of the universe right now. But then, I guess I should thank her for being the only one that noticed 'Yana''s fobwatch, which you didn't. Or perhaps you did and you didn't tell. I bet you'd love being the special one... the Last Child of Gallifrey."

The psychotic Time Lord's usually hypnotic eyes smoldered with barely suppressed fury, his voice belyingly calm "I can understand why Jack is doing this, Doctor. It's revenge and his 'sense of duty'. He's only not killing me because of you. If it wasn't for you, he'd kill me in a heartbeat."

"Now, what I don't get is you. Why the hell are you doing this to me!?" He yelled the last part, pulling his hand back and throwing a frustated kick against the door. Then he strangely seemed to calm down, crossed his arms and looked away from the other alien "Is this what you call 'forgiveness'? I can now see how little that word means to you if you use it that lightly..."

~

Jack sighed and was about to go after the visiting Time Lord, when he heard Mara call his name. "Hm? Oh, okay, I'll be right up." The Captain glanced back to Martha and patted her shoulder before heading up to the office area. He walked over to Mara and John, and looked to the most female of those two "Are you feeling better, Mara? And what did you want to tell me?"
Well…Jack doesn’t seem to have to worry about them…perhaps a few live traps in there to catch them would discourage the rest from trying to bite you?...I know of a good recipe that irritates small mammal’s noses and keeps them away.” The Doctor said calmly as he looked around the small cell. “We really need to get you a decent cot though. And pillows, perhaps some fluffy blankets…I know how much you like rich items…I’ll talk to Jack and make sure he gives you those items.” He whispered before he sighed.

“And it’s because of her that billions of humans aren’t dead now and I’m not some big eyed creature. Would you say I looked more like a house-elf or perhaps an exceptionally adorable gnome?” The Doctor was rambling now, trying to ignore the last bit of the Master words. They stung, they tore at him and they made him sad. Glancing at the Master, everything about him except his eyes was cheery as he beamed at the other Time Lord.

“Course I didn’t notice the fob watch. I keep an eye out for them now though. Meet someone I thought was my next regeneration by the way, turned out to just be someone with loads of knowledge of me stuffed into his head and he just thought he was me.” The Doctor said as he took one of the jelly babies from the bag and popped it into his mouth. He coughed slightly thought as he glanced down. “No…I hate being one of the last…it’s lonely…” He mumbled before he glanced at the Master again, he touching his forehead to the glass.

“Master…please don’t be like this…I’m trying...I don’t want you dead. You didn’t want to come with me and I don’t want you slipping off into hiding to cause more trouble…” The Time Lord said softly before he pulled his head back. “I’m still looking you know. For a cure for the drums.” He said as he pulled his screwdriver out and opening the lock on the cell door, he opened it and stepped inside, quickly closing the door behind him.

“Here, these are for you.” The Doctor said with a smile as he held the candy out, but kept a tight hold on his screwdriver.

~

John blinked only once at the kiss before he grinned. “Ooh, that was nice.” He commented cheekily as his hands moved down her sides before he frowned when she moved away. His frown dissolved into a grin though when he glanced down at Jack when Mara called to him and the other ex-time agent said that he was coming up.

“That’s because he is alone, my dear. From what I’ve seen, the bugger can’t die. So everyone around him will die eventually, leaving him alone in this lonely world…” John mumbled before he sniffed indigently. “Teaboy…Jack could do so much better then Teaboy…” He said loudly, scowling a little as if to suggest that he would be better for Jack.

When Jack entered the room, John’s slippery grin had returned as he sauntered up to the man and putting a hand on his shoulder, he stared at the immortal, or rather at his lips as he spoke. “Oh, she’s doing alright. She’s stubborn though and won’t lie still, Jack…” He said, speaking for Mara as he leaned closer to Jack. "How was your little chat with the excited man?...Time Lord...the Doctor right?"

Attention Torchwood.

“Sure. I’ll be right back…”

Giving one more look to Gabe and Ianto, Gwen hurried back inside the Hub. It only took her a few moments to find the young doctor, who at the moment seemed to be staring off into space. What was with people taking mental vacations today? First Isabel was off in la-la land and now it seemed to have passed on to Martha. Perhaps she should take one too, seeing as how that would be the only vacation she would be seeing for a while. Shaking off the thought with a somewhat hesitant laugh, Gwen approached Martha.

“Martha, I was wondering if you could come with me for a minute. Ianto and I could use you help moving Gabe. I’ll explain everything once we get up there…” Gwen trailed off when she realized that Martha wasn’t listening to her. Her eyes began to narrow slightly in concern as she lightly tapped her on the shoulder.

“Hmm?”

Martha spun around suddenly, a little caught off guard by Gwen’s touch. She had been so wrapped up in her own thoughts that she hadn’t noticed the Torchwood member approaching her until her name had been called. With the Master’s words and the Doctor’s recent appearance still fresh in her mind, Martha was hoping to have a moment to be able to digest everything. However, with Gwen mentioning the need for her assistance, Martha once again had to force her thoughts to the back of mind and she now had to focus on the problem at hand.

“Not a problem…lets go get the stretcher and you can explain what happened on the way up.” Martha led the way, heading towards the medical wing once again. After retriving the stretcher and a few medical supplies, Gwen and Martha began to make their way back towards the surface. On the way up, Gwen told Martha for what occurred with Gabe and Isabel. While listening to the story, Martha made a point to remember certain key points in the hopes of trying to figure out what could have caused Gabe so much pain.

When they reached Ianto and Gabe, Martha immediately knelt by Gabe and began to examine him. While her preliminary examination showed that he was alright, she would not be able to tell if he is really okay until she took him back to the medical wing.

((Sorry that took so long! cry The week before Break was Heck. I promise I won't take that long ever again.))

Mara smiled at Jack, swallowing away any embarrassment she had left after her transgression and the urge to defend her best friend from John. "I'm fine," she said, tipping her head away from the bad shoulder. The violet of her eyes darkened, however, when she remembered what she had to report. "You have damage-control to do, Jack," she said, her tongue flicking out to wet her lips. This was one of her absolutely worst jobs with Torchwood. "The Nostrovite got to someone before I nailed it. Or it nailed me." She shivered and winced. "I made sure she was dead before I left though. No chance of a Nostrovite surrogacy." She tried not to look at John as she spoke, feeling like a puppet with its strings constantly being jerked this way and that.

Ianto looked at Martha. "Where do you want him?" he asked as he lugged Gabe onto the stretcher. Torchwood really was a magnet for injuries today. First Mara and the Nostrovite, and now Gabe with... Actually, Ianto wasn't really sure what had happened to Gabe. What would be next? Jack getting killed again? Ianto shuddered at the thought. No matter how much he had been exposed to Jack's immortality, it was hard seeing the man he loved die. Bar the fact that it made for great comfort sex...
Ianto pushed back those particular thoughts and looked back to Gwen and Martha. Teaboy though he may be, at least he could follow orders to a T without trouble. And why were those R-rated thoughts pervading his mind today? He reached up and slapped the back of his own head in punishment.
((Sorry it's been so long, I've just been really busy with university and being online on gaia was the last thing on my mind, but I still want to keep going, so no worries. I'll try to be faster))

Jack glanced to John who came up to him, and didn't brush off his hand even though he seemed in a slightly sour mood. He seemed a little lost in thoughts as he blinked confused for a moment at John's question. "Oh, er, yes, fine. He's just gone down to ... just to pick up something." He finished lamely, but somehow he was just feeling so tired and he couldn't come up with a better excuse right now. Nostrovites, injured team members, a rebellious Time Lady, an evil and insane Time Lord in the basement and the only other Time Lord, whom Jack had a crush on, suddenly dropping by... there was only so much even an immortal could handle.

He turned his attention back to Mara. "Good. Like I said, have a rest, get some time off. Things are hectic here, but hey, it's Torchwood, it's not like we really have guaranteed down times." The immortal replied to her confirmation she was fine. Then he sighed at her further comments, sticking his hands in the pockets of his thick woollen coat. "Yes, damage control, lovely. We'll have to go on some Nostrovite hunting." Jack glanced aside to John "Hope you brought your rifle. Well, rifle... we'll need more than that. These things need a freaking bazooka... I should look into getting one at the next budget review." The captain mused. He was looking a bit brighter at that, forgetting his annoyed thoughts about the Time Lords in favour of good old things that go boom.

~

The Master rolled his eyes at the Doctor's suggestion he'd ask for furniture from Jack. Why not ask him to go rent out a room for him? Then again, maybe the Doctor would be able to persuade that freak, seeing how much the human had an obvious crush on the other Time Lord. It was after all a source of amusement to the Master and a very easy way to rile up the captain. Oh, it must be killing him to allow the Doctor to visit him all alone. But back to the matter at hand.

The psychotic Time Lord snorted derisively at the comment that he was looking for a cure for the drums. "Oh, you are, are you? Gee, does that mean I should be prepared to rot away in here for 900 years? Oh wait, no, even longer, since I never found a cure for them in all that time!" He said, even more irritated at the thought that the Doctor would think he could succeed that quickly where the Master failed for so long.

But he was quite surprised by the other Time Lord's next actions, even if he closed and subsequently locked the door again behind him. Oh, he could probably wrestle the sonic screwdriver from him and he knew pretty well how it worked... but for some reason the Doctor seemed to think the Master wouldn't attack him. True, the other man was taller than him, but he was still pretty sure he'd manage to overpower him, especially if the other didn't want to hurt him.

He regarded the bag of candy with a slightly pouty look, which seemed characteristic to this particular regeneration with its boyish looks, as he entertained the thought of smacking it out of the Doctor's hands. It seemed rather petulant though, and after so long of not having anything really good to eat, he did crave for some good candy. He struggled for a little bit longer before he huffed "Fine." and snatched the bag, popping a few pieces of candy in his mouth. Oh sweet sugary bliss...
((sorry, was doing school stuff as well. Plus I have a new job o.o))

John grinned a little more, pleased that Jack didn’t brushed him away. He took this chance to move his hand from Jack’s shoulder and slip it around his waist, the ex-Time Agent moving closer to the immortal. “Yeah, I’m sure that’s what he’s doing…” He crooned softly, his amusement evident in his voice. He could tell by the look in Jack’s eyes, by the tone of his voice: He was lying. There also seemed to be something that was bugging him. Maybe he could get it out of him later on…

“Ooh, damage control?” John cried out as he chuckled again, excited. “I love doing damage and controlling.” He purred before he nodded. “You know me, I always have my rifle. You don’t have a bazooka, Jack?” He added in surprised, giggling. “I do. Maybe I’ll let you play with it later on when we go hunting.” John said before he whispered, putting a hand on Jack’s far cheek. “Speaking of playing…” He whispered as he quickly turned Jack’s face towards him and planted a quick, rough, and lustful kiss on the Captain’s lips.

~

The Doctor grinned widely when the Master took the bag of candy from him. He was pleased that the other Time Lord had dropped his pride enough to allow himself the Doctor’s gift. Oh, the better of the two was sure the Master thought that the Doctor was pleased that he was able to ‘feed the wild animal’, but that wasn’t it. He was just glad his former friend and best enemy allowed himself the treat. Even if it was from the Doctor.

“You don’t have to roll your eyes. I’ll make sure he gives you a blow up mattress at least! Those are pretty comfy I hear.” The Doctor said as he put his hands into his pocket, still smiling away his trademark grin. “But I’ll make sure you get some furniture, Master…it’s not fair for you if you’re locked away for your own good and you’re not even treated with dignity. I’m very angry with Jack about this.” He said. He didn’t look it at the moment, but he was. He didn’t like that Jack was mistreating the Master so.

Still…”Master! You know I’m brilliant. You’re brilliant, I’m brilliant and the universe is a huge place. If you just…I don’t know…shared your information you tried with me, I’m sure I could continue to search…I’ll find something that will stop the drums, Master. I promise you that.” The Doctor said, and for a moment, his smile slipped away into a look of sincere seriousness, he gazing into the Master’s eyes before his grin returned in full force.

“How is that candy by the way?” The Doctor asked as he walked around the Master, considering him before he sat down on the bench by the wall. “I knew you’d like it. You always did have a sweet tooth. You know that offer to travel with me is till offered. You’d have to stay in the TARDIS, but it would be better than a tiny cell wouldn’t it? I mean, the TARDIS is huge. You know that…and you would have free reign inside of her. Just…you couldn’t go outside. Not until you proved you wouldn’t maim or kill anyone.”

He was chattering again as he looked around, his long legs stretching and unstretching in front of him. “What have you been up to for an entire year anyway?” He asked as he looked at the Master again.
“Lets get him into the medical room…”

Martha tossed suggestion out towards Ianto and Gwen before heading back inside. So far, it seemed as though Gabe had suffered some sort of psychological episode and it seemed to have passed. However, the young doctor couldn’t ignore the troublesome feeling that managed to work its way into the pit of her stomach. Replaying the explanation in her mind, Martha continued to focus on Isabel’s actions prior to Gabe’s episode as well as Gabe’s words prior to him falling into his current state. On her way up to investigate, she just happened to pass Isabel. As far as she could tell, Isabel was perfectly fine. There wasn’t a single hair out of place and she didn’t look as if something had happened to her. Perhaps Isabel’s weird behavior and Gabe’s outbursts were completely unrelated. At least, that was what she was hoping. However, there was another dark thought that managed to snake its way into her mind. What if the Master had something to do with it?

While both Isabel and the Master had not betrayed any knowledge of one another, there was still the possibility that they had somehow managed to contact one another. After all, the Doctor did mention that Time Lords were able to pick up on one another’s presence. However the question that begged to be asked was, ‘What took them so long to recognize each other?’. Could it have been that because they have been apart for so long that the two simply missed each other signals? Or maybe they have been in contact with one another far long than anyone would have suspected.

‘I sure hope that is not the case…’

Making a mental note to speak to the Doctor about her thoughts later, Martha decided to focus a little on the task at hand. While she thought about speaking to Jack, she wasn’t sure she should tell the immortal time traveler her own theories just yet. Ever since the arrival of the female Time Lord, Jack had been particularly on edge, always suspicious about her behavior. And while she understood his reasons for not wanting to automatically trust Isabel, she certainly didn’t want her to be tossed in a cell like the Master.

“Alright you heard her, let’s get him to the medial wing…”

Gwen sighed as she gripped the other side of the stretcher, taking some of the weight of carrying the injured Gabe off of Ianto. She looked over to Ianto, giving him the signal to start before she followed Martha back into the Hub. All the while, her mind couldn’t get off of the strange occurrences that happened not too long ago. Gwen knew that she had to keep her mouth shut in regards to what Jack had told her, however she couldn’t help but wonder if whatever he was keeping locked down in the basement of Torchwood wouldn’t put everyone else in danger. The brunette remembered the last time someone had kept something secret in Torchwood. Casting a side glance to Ianto as the memory resurfaced of his ex-girlfriend turned cyber woman came to mind. While she was sure Jack wasn’t keeping something of that magnitude in the hub, the ex police officer was still just as curious as to who or what was down below.
