Charlie Ward: Prologue
Time to meet my first friend.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Charlie was distracted from his music by one of the others in the room. It was the girl with the dress and purple hair. As he noticed her approaching him he removed his headphones, draping them around his neck. She introduced herself in a very polite manner, which caught Charlie off-guard. He didn't anticipate a young teenager to have such refined speech. Then again, he didn't know what teenagers besides himself were like.
"Hello Lucy. I'm Charlie Ward, from Hoenn." He nodded his head once, smiling in return to Lucy's.
Another girl had entered the Lab immediately afterwards, and drew her attention. Charlie looked over to the new arrival as well, soon noticing the extra ears perched atop her head. Before he had a chance to either question the ears or continue conversing with Lucy, Professor Spruce had begun the 'ceremony' wherein the trainers would receive their first Pokemon. This, naturally, drew everyone's attention to the back of the Lab, and soon enough those in attendance were called up one at a time to receive their Pokemon.
Charlie watched as, one by one, the other new trainers get called up. As they each did they would reveal their Pokemon, which made sense. They were all excited, and Charlie was no exception. He sat until, at long last, his name was called. He stood and took a gander around the room. Everyone else was preoccupied with their own Pokemon. Understandable. Charlie approached the Professor. When she asked him what kind of Pokemon he wanted, he answered in kind.
"Well, I've grown up on archaeological sites my entire life. I've seen so many kinds of Pokemon it was kind of hard for me to decide. However, there's one that's always fascinated me. Long extinct, they can only be found in fossils these days. You wouldn't happen to have anything like that would you?"
The Professor nodded and retrieved a Pokeball, handing it to Charlie. He held it in his hands for a moment before thanking Professor Spruce and returning to the main room.
The others were all still involved with their own Pokemon. Some of them even seemed to start to talk to one another. Charlie still wasn't sure if he could find anyone to get to know in the group, though Lucy seemed an early candidate. Shrugging, he held out his Pokeball. The sphere flipped open spewed out a bright red light, which soon materialized on the ground.
A small, brown-shelled Pokemon stood in front of Charlie. It leaned back, revealing a black underbelly and red eyes. It clacked its small, hook-like legs together excitedly. Charlie smiled, leaning down to get a closer look at his new companion.
"Hey there little buddy! I'm Charlie!" Charlie reached his hand out towards the Kabuto.
Kabuto looked at Charlie's hand for a moment before clamping on and scurrying up his arm, perching himself on his shoulder, chirping at him. Charlie smiled wide and was soon beset with laughter. Kabuto joined in.
