"So, Lan tells me that that Ieit girl has a Dark Chip, and that you let her keep it," Chaud said at dinner.
Lain looked up, startled.
"Is that true?"
Unable to lie to him, Lain nodded.
"You do realize that when Mr. Famous hears about this, he's going to take your rights as a Net Savior away?" continued Chaud.
Again the girl nodded, biting her lip. Chaud had said 'when Mr.Famous hears about this', not 'if', so did that mean he was going to tell him?
She couldn't blame him if he did. He had once lost Protoman to the Dark Chip, so he was rather sensitive about the thing.
Chaud sighed. "Why?"
Lain shrugged. "I don't know... She was practically begging for me to let her keep the chip till tomorrow... So I let her..."
"You're usually not that sympathetic," commented Chaud.
Lain shrugged again.
"I'm not going to tell Mr. Famous, but don't let it happen again, okay? You went against your duty as a Net Savior and let that girl have something dangerous," said Chaud firmly.
"I won't. I promise." Lain felt very small at the moment.
Chaud gave her a smile. "It's alright."
"Right... So, does this mean Dr. Regal's back?" Lain said, moving on to a new topic.
Chaud shook his head. "He can't be. He's gone, remember? I bet it's someone else who's just finishing what Regal started."
"But what if he's not gone?" insisted Lain. "What if he's like Voldemort, who disappeared off the face of the planet and came back a while later, more evil than ever?"
Chaud gave her an incredulous look.
"Sorry, but it can be true!"
"Lay off the fantasy and come back to reality, Lain."
