~Sying: Pull Yourself Together

A crack of twigs broke Sying's sobs. Tokku began to growl, scenting the air furiously and raising his hackles. "Ssh," she cooed, wiping her cheeks. She crept through a swathe of crackling bushes slowly, the white wolf following closely. Coming to a stop in front of a scarred oak, Sying's breath caught in her throat. Leaning against the tree was a tall boy with red-streaked black hair, his clothes burned and his eyed closed. A beautiful lynx was curled up on his lap, asleep.
"Um, excuse me..." Sying breathed quietly, prodding the boy gently in the chest. "Hello in there," she sang.
He must have been traveling nearby and was caught in the fire...but where on earth could he have come from? There isn't another village for leagues and leagues. Yet she pitied him. "Tokku, do you mind?" she pleaded, turning to the massive winged wolf with the full force of her wobbling aqua eyes. Tokku angled his ears back slightly, then huffed, thrusting his head under the boy's back. Sying helped balance him on the eagle-wolf's broad back, before climbing on herself right behind him. The slender teen glanced meaningfully at the sleeping lynx, but it wasn't needed. Tokku grabbed her scruff in his jaws and lifted shakily into the sky.
I hope he can hold out with this much weight.
They flew to a cave farther south, one Sying had found long ago when she had gotten lost ice fishing. Tokku set the lynx down at the back of the cave as Sying slid down from his back, balancing the boy with his arm around her shoulder. She leaned him against a stone wall and tore off her singed blue parka, draping it over his chest.
Live, please. Maybe you can help me. Outside, it began to snow.
