Remnant, A World overrun by darkness and danger. The creatures of Grimm rail against the creations of mankind in an endless tide of Fang, Claw and Stinger. Only the light of the 4 kingdoms stand as a haven in this world, the Hunter and Huntresses the Vanguard in their defense.
These kingdoms do not live in perfect harmony however. People, being people have many ideas and beliefs on the best way to do things. More often than not people refuse to accept the viewpoints of others, sometimes to the point of violence.
Long before the events of RWBY, a war was fought between the 4 Kingdoms of Vale, Vacuo, Mistral and Atlas. This came about then leadership from Atlas decided that the only way to truly push back the darkness from Remnant was with total Unity of Purpose. Everyone most fight with a single goal, everyone the same. The Self-Expression of the Individual and works such as art and music was wasted and pointless effort in this goal and only served to hold mankind back from its true potential. The common citizen no use for such things and only the most Elite of society deserved that right.
Armed with there massive army of mechanical soldiers and Elite Warriers they set to bring the other kingdoms to heel under their belief system. In response to this Mistal chose to fortify and defend its own borders choosing not to attack in any way and simply let the other nations fight it out. Vacuo, the furthest from the Northern kingdom of Altas chose to remain neutral. Being the leading providers of Dust in the 4 kingdoms they were made an unappealing early target for the Conquering forces of Altas both by their distance from each other and the risk of losing this vital source of power.
With Mistral unwilling to fight and Vacuo clinging to their neutrality only Vale remained to stand against the armies of Atlas. The Training of a new generation of Hunters and Huntresses became even more important as the fight rages on. Its is a difficult time in Beacon Academy as not only the War put everyone on edge but the hostility had stirred the Grimm, causing them to be even more active.
