xxxxxWhen Veronica's arm settled on her shoulder, Ai froze. Her mind was fully on the conversation at hand, so she was rationally aware of the lighthearted humor, but the physical contact had been fully unexpected. Rather than jumping away--jumping, after all, was a bad thing to do both in cooking and in electronics--she took a long moment to ground herself. Handcuffs. Nibbles. Hubby. Veronica. Ai flashed to an earlier scene with the redhead getting similarly cozy with Nali, and with Otium. So this was normal. Slowly, she let her muscles relax, releasing a healthy chuckle as if this were completely expected. Innuendo was something she wasn't particularly skilled with, unless it was over the top or painfully blatant. Nothing of her various environments over the course of the last fifteen years or so asked for subtlety, so Ai had spent her formative pubescent years literally going wild. Handcuffs hadn't entered the picture (a fear of captivity would do that to a girl), but she could still play along.
xxxxxShe had, in fact, been on the verge of upping the ante on the human when Skipper and Nali entered the Mess. Skipper waved his hand, and Ai had to resist the urge to respond in kind, opting instead for a muted nod of acknowledgement. Otium's awkward questioning filled the air as they settled at the table, and then things got strange. The quarian was not unfamiliar with affairs between crewmembers on a ship--it went along with the wild and crazy youth--but she had been solidly under the impression that the military had rules against it. Not that she was going to let that stop her. Nevertheless, the body language between the two officers screamed 'sex.' She was torn between laughter and dismay, and then fell solidly into the amusement camp when the man screamed out. The little quarian didn't know what had transpired to make him shout, but a dozen ideas of explanation filled her head, all of them compromising.
xxxxxRegardless, the captain made a hasty attempt to change the subject (points for validity), and Veronica nestled closer to Ai. The quarian made a note to herself that a frank conversation with the human might be in order, even as the others made happy noises about Cerberus. If the redhead was hinting at what she seemed to be hinting at, Ai was up for a little fun, though she had rules in the envirosuit department. Any sensible quarian did. Still, she didn't see a difference yet from Veronica's treatment of Nali, so she was going to try not to read too much into it. Yet.
xxxxx"Cerberus are disgusting," she muttered, her voice steely, "good only for clearing out batarian scum, though they only act when human children are being dismembered." The venom in her voice was a little surprising even to Ai, but Cerberus had been a pain in the collective asses of Terminus non-humans for years. Quarians had it a little better in the Terminus Systems than in Council space, but the Cerberus presence in recent years had almost negated that advantage. Ai had only experienced Cerberus bullying directly, but she had friends who hadn't made it out of encounters alive. This would be a fight she could get behind, and not only because it felt personal. Ivan had a point with the lack of zombies; no zombies was better all around.
