Mad Hatter
---------------------
~~~~~~~~~~~
Living every day
In a carefree way...
Hatter's character seemed gone for a moment as Luna, a rare character to come, seemed to appear. "Simply put, your Majesty. It does not mean your organ heart. It can mean any kinds of heart that you would see. For example, the heart jewelries on your crown, or even your rod. The hat is quite accurate, and only about 15% of its foretelling is wrong..." she spoke, disappearing. Mad Hatter blinked her eyes for a moment before clearing her throat.
Before she could say a thing as if nothing had happened, the Queen was upset. She turned her head to see, and there was the Dreamer that she... well, the hat, had foresaw. She got up carefully, being silent as she waited on him to speak. She looked at the Twins, hoping they had informed him of many important things before facing the Queen. Her reaction of getting up was proof enough that she didn't expect a visitor... At least, didn't expect him to come so soon.
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense.
Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't.
And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be.
And what it wouldn't be, it would.
Sebastian faked yet another smile. Can they tell? "I would love to her a riddle!" It was a lie. He never much liked little kids form of a riddle. They were not as mature as he liked them to be. Besides, it was to end here for they have arrived. It seems the happy twins were correct. She was easily upset. Especially with his presence. "Forgive my intrusion your Majesty. It was not my intent to anger you," he said, moving forward and bowed deeply. Stood up straight and kept a formal gaze. Pretty little thign ain't she. "My name is Sebastian Graves. Why I am here however, I cannot give you a correct answer, but apparently," he paused and knelt down in front of her, grabbing her hand gently in his, "Your beauty called to me.'' If least tried to flirt with her. If she was a Queen, then flatter always wins.
"Do not be furious to the twins behind me," he said quietly, still on his knees, "They only led me to you. A woman with such grace and stature, I am betting that everyone here respects you." This better work or he will surely return form teh grave and murder the little girl who dared sent him here.
Ah, my dear, you have a story?
The twins looked at each other, and then back at the Queen and Sebastian, half surprised, as that was not what they had expected him to do. Believing that maybe he wasn’t what they had thought he originally was, the twins sat themselves down, as it would seem the Queen was not think about beheading them at that moment, and smiled at the Mad Hatter as though they hadn’t upset the Queen at all. Neither spoke, but both were watching with interesting, knowing that even if he didn’t survive, they may be able to get a good story out of the happenings anyway, and if he survived they could find out stories and things off him, so it was a win-win situation to them. Linking her brother’s arm, Dum leaned up so she could rest her head on his shoulder, and she waited for the fun to begin.
The Queen stood there baffled by how formal he was. He looked like a butler but spoke like a noble man. She looked at him disgusted. Horrible. He entered her land without her approval and he dares say he didn't wish to anger her. "Ha, and why should I believe a commoner like you," she said and was about to give out the order but realized she has yet to let him speak his name. She yawned as he explained and gave her his name. Like it would've made any difference. However, when he grabbed her by her hand, she was going to loose it, but the words that fell out of his mouth. She smiled. "Oh, you have very good tastes," she said and blushed. That is what she wanted to hear. She laughed hartily as he just shot out compliments after compliments. This was one very entertaining.
"My, my, you certianly know a lady when you see one," she said and sat down. She looked down at her cup and frowned. "Hatter, my tea has spilled. Fetch me another cup." The Queen of hearts then looked at the twins and smirked. "Well my lovies, do you have an interesting story or rhyme to tell me?" she said. The man may speak on their behalf but if the Tweedle dumbs fail to entertain her, then his head well accompany theirs in the basket tomorrow.
Mad Hatter's eyes widened at how the visitor that went by the name Sabastian could have known she adored being complimented so much. She blinked her eyes, coming back to reality and bowed her head in respect. "Of course, your Majesty." she said, moving from her chair. She looked at the twins, a bit relieved that Sabastian's head was spared... for now. She came back after clapping her hands four times, two cups coming towards the Queen and Sabastian. "I trust you would like some Earl Grey?" she asked the man with a soft smile. The tea kettle was walking its way over to them. Two more cups were waddling over to the twins. Much, much work to be done!
Ah, my dear, you have a story?
The Twins didn’t feel any pressure upon themselves, and Dum spoke in a voice far more formal than she normally used, ”Well, there is one that I do believe we have not told you before, your Majesty. A poem that we heard from a passing man on a horse. Quite a confused fellow, but the poem itself is quite interesting. Have you heard it your majesty? It’s name is ‘Haddocks’ Eyes’.”
”But it’s name is really ‘The Aged Aged Man’.” Dee cut in, correcting his sister.
”And it is called ‘Ways and Means.’” She continued, as though it made complete sense.
”It is really called ‘A-sitting on a gate’.”
The twins looked at each other, and then said in unison, ”The knight could not make up his mind your Majesty, you see, so we thought it would be best if we told you all four names, just in case you knew it. Do you, your Majesty?” it was quite amazing how well they knew what the other was going to say, but it came from years and years – for Wonderland didn’t work quite the same as everywhere else – of spending nearly all their time with each other, and very rarely with someone else that stayed with them for more than a day or so. ”Would that suit her Majesty?” Dum asked, serious now, no trace of her usual smile on her lips.
Sebastian felt proud of himself. Nobles were easily fooled and he enjoyed it. Especially when he gets to play behind the scenes and pull their strings. For now however, he will learn her ups and downs and everybodies elses in the room for that matter. It was such a weird place. Though, nothing can top the flying tea set that was headed near them. "Fascinating," he muttered and stared at them. When the woman with the top hat spoke, he almost forget where he was, "Ah...yes. Yes I would thank you," he said politely. Might as well keep up with the act of a gentleman. The young man then turned to little brats that sat down. This shall be entertaining. Apparently, by the way she was looking at them, she wasn't fond of the two. While waiting, he looked back at the female and smiled, "By the way, what may I address you madam?"
When the twins spoke, he turned back to the twins. A poem? A wise choice. However, when they gave all this titles to it, he wasn't sure if it was now. Through the corner of his eyes, he gazed upon the Queen's reaction. Was the woman patient? Impatient? Bored? Amused? Irritated? All these questions, when will they end? See another one.
Mad Hatter continued what she was doing and lifted the tea kettle to pour the drinks in the cups when they have finally arrived at their destination. "I am Mad Hatter." she said. "For short, others have called me Hatter. How nice of you to be... invited to this tea party by the Tweedle Twins." She nodded her head lightly to him. There was much she would like to say to him, but that would have to wait. Probably when Her Majesty leaves, providing that his head won't be coming off. She walked around the table to pour the tea for the twins as well. "Enjoy yourselves." she said with a smile. Mad Hatter simply did not know of the title that the twins were looking for, but it just might work out for the Queen.
The Queen frowned. All this names and titles just for one poem. Her brow twitched a bit as she tried to hold her patience. When they mentioned as to why there were so many titles, she snapped. This man was to be hunted down. How can he name it so many times and not decide on one. "No, I have not." she said through gritted teeth. She looked over at Rabbit and motioned for him to come near her. She wanted something soft to pet and his ears were the softest thing that was here. Staring at the twins once more, she let her cheek rest on her hand as she waited for Dum to speak. However, she raised her other hand to signal her to wait as she glared at the man. "Let me warn you...Sebastian Graves, if the twins fail to entertain me, you and your little two friends hear will see your last dawn tomorrow." she said and smiled before letting her hand fall back down at the table.
The woman returned her gaze upon the two and let her smile fall."You may commence, Dum."
Ah, my dear, you have a story?
Dum smiled, not at all worried, smiled and thought back to the first lyrics of the poem, wondering what being beheaded would be like, before glancing in turn at Dee and then Sebastian, not looking at all worried, although she didn’t appear smug either. She was just acting as though she were telling this poem to friends. She smiled before she started and said, ”It is quite a long poem your Majesty, but I do fear you may have heard all our shorter ones…
I'll tell thee everything I can:
There's little to relate.
I saw an aged aged man,
A-sitting on a gate.
"Who are you, aged man?" I said,
"And how is it you live?"
And his answer trickled through my head,
Like water through a sieve
He said "I look for butterflies
That sleep among the wheat:
I make them into mutton-pies,
And sell them in the street.
I sell them unto men," he said,
"Who sail on stormy seas;
And that's the way I get my bread --
A trifle, if you please." “
She paused for a second, remebering the rest of the poem before she went on, rembering a better one half way through, but not changing poems, because it would anger the Queen, and that was even more fatal than a bad original poem – if that wre at all possible.
“But I was thinking of a plan
To dye one's whiskers green,
And always use so large a fan
That they could not be seen.
So, having no reply to give
To what the old man said,
I cried "Come, tell me how you live!"
And thumped him on the head.
His accents mild took up the tale:
He said "I go my ways,
And when I find a mountain-rill,
I set it in a blaze;
And thence they make a stuff they call
Rowlands' Macassar-Oil --
Yet twopence-halfpenny is all
They give me for my toil."
But I was thinking of a way
To feed oneself on batter,
And so go on from day to day
Getting a little fatter.
I shook him well from side to side,
Until his face was blue:
"Come, tell me how you live," I cried,
"And what it is you do!"
He said "I hunt for haddocks' eyes
Among the heather bright,
And work them into waistcoat-buttons
In the silent night.
And these I do not sell for gold
Or coin of silvery shine,
But for a copper halfpenny,
And that will purchase nine.
"I sometimes dig for buttered rolls,
Or set limed twigs for crabs:
I sometimes search the grassy knolls
For wheels of Hansom-cabs.
And that's the way" (he gave a wink)
"By which I get my wealth--
And very gladly will I drink
Your Honour's noble health."
I heard him then, for I had just
Completed my design
To keep the Menai bridge from rust
By boiling it in wine.
I thanked him much for telling me
The way he got his wealth,
But chiefly for his wish that he
Might drink my noble health.
And now, if e'er by chance I put
My fingers into glue,
Or madly squeeze a right-hand foot
Into a left-hand shoe,
Or if I drop upon my toe
A very heavy weight,
I weep, for it reminds me so
Of that old man I used to know--
Whose look was mild, whose speech was slow
Whose hair was whiter than the snow,
Whose face was very like a crow,
With eyes, like cinders, all aglow,
Who seemed distracted with his woe,
Who rocked his body to and fro,
And muttered mumblingly and low,
As if his mouth were full of dough,
Who snorted like a buffalo--
That summer evening long ago,
A-sitting on a gate. “
Dum finished without her usual comedic flair, as this poem was not one of her usual happy hyper ones, and as she glanced at her brother, she leant against him for a second, as though telling the poem had worn her out, but she quickly sat up again with a bright smile on her face. ”Was the poem to your liking, your Majesty?” she looked as though she didn’t mind either way what the answer was, and as she smiled calmly she glanced at Sebastian and wondered how he would react to the knews he was to lose his head – if that was the Queens decision. She thought it would probably be amusing, and make a good story. Sadly, one she would be unable to tell if she ever found out the answer to.
Mr. Rabbit.
Rabbit remained in the carriage and took a cup out of his jacket and smiled as the tea appeared in his cup. "Nice and quiet." he said contently as he allowed his ears to droop down past the rim of his hat. He inhaled the aroma of his peppermint tea and savored its delicious smell before he started slowly sipping the tea. rabbit pulled out a case that was in his other jacket pocket and pulled out a carrot, again savoring its smell before tasting it. "Mmmm.. A very good carrot indeed you are my dear." he smiled as he lightly chewed on it. Rabbit looked at his watch. 'Plenty of time for tea. And carrots.' he said as he placed the case back in his pocket from whence it came. Rabbit carefully took his hat off and felt the top of his head where his ears met it. "Hmmm.. how peculiar.. it doesn't hurt now, and i don't feel any dried blood.." he mumbled. Deciding it was safe, he hopped out of the carriage and strolled out to the party, still chewing his carrot and sipping his tea. Rabbit took his hat off and bowed low to the ground and kissed Mad Hatters hand. "Hello again Miss Hatter." He smiled as he put his hat back on and bowed even lower for the queen, his ears touching the ground. "How is tea time going your majesty and everyone else?" He asked cordially.
Mad Hatter was just about to go back to sit down when she heard a rather familiar voice. She turned again and saw rabbit. A sly smile grew on her face. "Hello, Mister Rabbit." she greeted to him. She saw that he had his own tea to drink from. "This tea party is going well..." she leaned down for a moment, coming close to his ears. "...That is, if Her Majesty does not choose to behead a rare dreamer." she whispered. She came back up, a hand on his shoulder to make him come up as well. "I'm glad you could join us! Care to have a seat?" she asked.
Mr. Rabbit.
Rabbit frowned slightly and sat next to the queen. "You wouldn't happen to have some rhubarb for me would you dear?" He asked, slightly smiling. The reason he was only slightly smiling was because he kept thinking, Please don't touch my ears, please don't queen.. He put his cup down and it started to fill up again. "Fresh peppermint is the best." He said absentmindedly.
You're late again.. Get a bloody watch.
Mad Hatter gave a slight chuckle as she took a seat next to Rabbit. "But of course." she said, reaching across the table to get the plate full of rhubarbs. She brought the plate in front of him and smiled. "So, have you managed to ever be on time for anything lately?" she asked out of curiosity.
