Foster was fortunately uanware of anythign going on behind him. He was busy trying to scarf down his food so that anyone who wanted to could come to his office and talk during their lunch break.

Meanwhile, Micky was busy venting her frustrations on Simon's catcher's glove. Fast ball, curve ball, knuckle ball, right hook, left, another fast ball. All in a quick succession with a pile of balls steadily shrinking at her feet. In her mind, she wasn't hitting the glove, but her step father's face. His arrogant, drunken face. Oh, Lord knew at home she threw back as many punches as he gave, but he hit harder, and wasn't against knocking her to the ground and holding her there while he went at her with his steel toe boots. She just couldn't win against that, and the bruises on her back and sides and the cracked rib she'd taped up testified to that fact. But tonight she got to go to her real father's house. It'd all be ok as soon as she got to Kevin Raider once more.

After thinking very long and hard all day about the choice she decided to make, even as she somewhat reluctantly made her way to the group of people on the playground, Akira still wondered if she should be joining the 4-H. True, it did seem like fun and all and her father and older sister had wanted her to join while she had been in Junior School-still did now that she was in High school-, so why not?

Mainly because going home seemed all the more tempting to the 14 year old.

Oh well, she'd give this a try, and if she really did get fed up, she could always quit, even if that brought frowns apon her sibling's and father's face.

The brunnet was slightly shocked and pleased that Reed actually was talking and hanging out with a small group of friends though! Too bad they didn't attend this High school...

((You know Mitsuki, I think it'd be funny and cool if Foster was chosen as one of the leaders of 4H. Everyone likes him, after all. Thinks he's cool! biggrin But it's totally up to you!))

When Reed looked up from talking with her two friends, she saw her sister approaching their group. She couldn't stop the bright smile that spread on her face. Her sister had decided to join 4H! She thought Akira would really like it. She'd basically be doing the same thing that she normally did after school at home, minus watching TV. She'd be taking care of animals and actually learning how to care for them even better.

She waved at her sister and then gestured for her to sit by her.

Jasper, in his goofy mannerisms had foundhimself a detention that kept him from getting out of school, and it wasn't even his fault. Another hour tacked onto his time at school was like telling a prisoner they had three more years to serve. Such injustice these days.

Of all placed the boy was to end up, it was in the dullest room he had ever been in. The lights flickered once in a while, a beep and hum let out every so often. The walls were devoid of any material other than the eggshell colored paint that gave off a strange odor. The worst part of all was the man at the front, staring blankly at cards on his desk. He would pike them up one by one, write something on the side, then shuffle them before repeating the process. Jonas almost didn't notice him speaking, the man's voice so monotone, an 80's machine operator was more human than his, "Perhaps you would be able be of some help, Mr.Albrights. You seem to like cards that you'd go through the trouble of gluing all mine together."

"I told you, I didn't do it, Brushwood. I don't want to play games. I want to go home." Jasper crossed his arms defiantly, the man not showing any signs of emotion, just a droopy face with hooded lids.

"I see... Then how about we play for your freedom? See these pictures on these? Guess which card I'm holding in the right order and you're free to go. Is that interesting enough for you?"

"No, but it's a start. Hit me." Jasper tapped the desk, the graying man holding up a card, the boy rubbing his chin. "Uh.. A star.... A circle..square. I don't know what that is. Squiggly lines?"

"Hmm, you are correct." The boring man did something he hadn't done in quite a while. His eyebrows rose up in interest. The boy had gotten the cards right in one try. Astonishing odds for someone like him. He surely couldn't do it again. As Jasper started out the room, Brushwood tugging on his sleeve. "One more time and I'll write you an excused form for if you ever find yourself in trouble."

"Hmm, interesting proposal. I guess it's a lot better than having to end up here, even if it wasn't my doing. Deal me, pops." Jasper tapped the table again, the man shuffling his cards under the table and placing them on the table face down. Jonas took a moment to analyze the cards, Brushwood watching him carefully. The brunet pointed to his choices from left to right. "Cross...Squiggles...Star...Square."

"You're free to go." The gray man said, looking down at the cards, Jasper pulling his head back as the man handed him a slip.

"Not going to flip the cards?"

"I know the order, Mr.Albrights. It doesn't matter to you if you got them right. Wouldn't you rather go without questions?" Brushwood offered, not looking up, the boy taking the slip from his hand. He figured he got them right. Or was the teacher just trying to get him out of his hair, or what was left of it? Jasper started out the room, not before pausing to look back. When he finally left, the teacher flipped the cards."Cross. Waves.Star.Circle... This boy couldn't possibly have guessed right twice in a row. I even changed a card and he got it right. Perhaps... I've found... Esper."

((.... That is so awesome. Esper ftw.))

"Ah, man that was weird. But, I guess it was worth it," Jasper looked at his little slip of paper, reading the bold 'Excused' at the top, a grin plastered on his face, "It's like I got a cheat code to school! I'll have to save this baby for some real important day, like when that new Final Fantasy game FINALLY gets released."

Picking up his bike at the lot, the brown eyed boy kicked of and was off to meet up with his best buds. Out of the parking lot and into the field behind the school, the boy tore across the weed spotted land, his bike kicking up a light trail of dust. Rabbits that were sun bathing dashed away at the crackling of dried growth. The warm breeze pressed against the boy's face as he rode on, swerving around the rabbit holes. A few minutes into the ride there was a bark, a large mass of fur and muscle running beside him. "Hey, if it isn't Napoleon. Don't tell me you jumped OVER the fence." The hound didn't respond. "Yeah, you're the type to go right THOUGH the darn thing. Plum Bob won't like that you keep ruining his line of sticks. He's a little too cheap to buy real planks, haha!"

The pair slowed down after a while, stopping by a small creek that divided the land. After the dog had a drink, they started off again to the rendezvous. The kid was sure that anyone would mind the dog's presence, unless he started to diddled'n'doo everywhere. Strangely enough, the dog was courteous enough to mark only around the grasses and do his business behind a tree. Some called him a cat, how he would cover up his pies, others said he was just making traps. Either way, Napoleon was certainly peculiar dog.

(Thanks. I doubt that Jasp's power will exceed to anything more than "Rather strong hunches" or "A very lucky guess". I don't plan you make him have psi-balls and mind rape powers.)

((Nah, I think you can totally push it.))

After school, Christabelle had... well, nothing, really. As soon as the bus dropped her off home, she tossed her backpack onto an armchair in the living room, double-checked the thermostat, and then flung herself onto her bed. Mmm, her soft comfy bed... Chris reached over to her nightstand and grabbed two crucial items: her cell phone and a book. There were no new messages on her cell, so she opened the novel and began to read. She had just found it yesterday, an old book that was tucked away in her father's collection. It had a picture of two beautiful intertwined dragons on the cover, surrounded by eight stars. Christabelle turned to the page she stopped at last night, and continued to read about a talking cat and a high-school girl...

((... can i have a copy of that book?))

A few hours later, Blake was walking back up the road towards his house. Today was surprisingly easy, and, save one stray box landing on his foot, there weren't any complications at all. They even managed to finish early today. So he was able to get back home while there was still light outside, which was rare for him. When he got there, he immediately headed straight for the shower. That box was filled with frozen fish, so he was starting to smell fishy.

After his shower, he fixed himself some instant noodles (something he was used to eating by now), and grabbed a book one of his friends had given him to read. Apparently it was based off of some famous Japanese "Choose Your Own Adventure" story. So far, it was a bit clichéd. Boy gets in accident, gains powers, discovers hidden world, and helps destroy big threat with said powers. But, something about it drew him in, capturing his attention. He swore he could almost see some scenes...

Just when I've finally think I've figured you out, you come up with something new that draws me deeper to you. I can't get you out of my head. Whatever's going on, I hope it never ends.

Finally, Micky thought, letting out a sigh as she dropped her sports bag on the floor of her father's house. "Da! Da, I'm home!" She called, and the thump upstairs told her he'd heard her. Kicking her things into the corner by the door, Micky readjusted her cap, searched the living room briefly. Well, s**t, she thought, he'd cleaned. Only when she forgot something did he every bother cleaning and switching everything around, it seemed.

With a sigh, she took the steps two at a time, peeked into her father's room and laughed. Kevin Raider never ceased to amaze her. Retired from the pro baseball scene due to a permanent knee injury, Kevin raider had, since the age of 25, been a stay at home dad with endless hobbies. Today, it seemed, he was attempting...Was that yoga? She thought it was yoga. Seeing her father's lean build twisted into...Was it supposed to be a flower? She chuckled, knocking on the wall.

"Seriously, Da?" She said, and somehow he managed to untangle his arms and legs and...neck, then turn to her. "There's my baby girl!" He said, his eyes sharpening a bit when he spotted the bruises, but not saying anything. "I was thinking takeout for dinner tonight. Chinese sound okay?" He asked, and she nodded, watched as he got to his feet, reached automatically for his cane which was leaning against the wall.

"Yeah, sure, Pops. I'll be in my room if ya need me." She said, and was still chuckling as she crossed the hall to her own room. Kicking the door shut, she began hunting for the book she'd left...Somewhere around here. After twenty minutes and several curses, she found what she'd been looking for. Holding it above her head in triumph, she sank down in a baseball shaped beanbag, glancing around and spotting a half a bag of sunflower seeds halfway under her bed. Nabbing them, she tossed a few in her mouth, looked down at the prize in her hands.

A new book, she thought, and could've kissed the cover. Particularly since there was a gorgeous hunk of burning man meat on the front cover. Better yet, said hunk was shirtless. And, as all good cover-worthy hunks did, he carried an intimidating sword. She'd yet to read this one, but she'd already skimmed the back. The title was 'Jungle Fever'. Boy, did that sound promising, as was the back cover, which mentioned said cover-worthy hunk, who was apparently named Jackson Greywolf, was going to save/protect/fall in love with some girl in some jungle, yada yada yada. Whatever. She'd find out the plot eventually. Flipping to the first page, she settled in, preparing to enjoy herself.

As Akira sat down next to her sister and smilling brightly at the people around her, especially Reed, she couldn't help but feel somewhat out of place.

Why was she here and not at home reading a good book, watching tv, or doing any other of her absolute fav pass times? Oh, right! Because she loved taking care of animals just as much, plus, seeing the smile on her sister's and father's face honestly meant the world to her.

((I haven't caught up, yet, but Grey, I read the part of one of your posts about whenever the new Final Fantasy game FINALLY is released. lol!! Amen to that! It's taking forever! I'm a huge FF fan!! I have all the games and have loved the series since I was 7. biggrin ))

((LOL!! VERY nice book, Neon! lol!! Tis one of my favorites. wink ))

((And I'm so BS-ing this farm and 4H stuff. As I said, I was never in 4H. lol.))

Reed was so happy to have her sister next to her. She really hoped she liked 4H as much as Reed did.

Finally, 4H was beginning. She assumed all of the leaders were present now, even though she hadn't seen anyone else come in.

Her father stepped forward and smiled brightly at the kids in front of him and winked at his daughters. It was really good to see Akira in the 4H group finally. He was proud of her.

He was much more comfortable around younger people than his peers, who could be so entirely negative about nearly everything. Sure, middle school and high school kids weren't always a pleasure to be around, but they were more open to change. They were so less rigid.

"Hello everyone. My name is David Caribea and I have that large farm a few miles out of town that most of you pass while on the bus. Now today, we're going to introduce ourselves first. Then, we're going to learn how to take care goats. It's okay, you can go ahead and laugh."

David smiled and chuckled himself as he saw the kids in front of him chuckle at the idea of taking care of goats. "The reason we're going to research taking care of goats this week is because goat milk is actually very nutritious, sometimes more nutritious than cow's milk, depending on how it's pasteurized. I now try to encourage every livestock farm to have at least 5 goats. But first, introductions."

When everyone was done with introductions, David nodded and smiled at everyone again. Then, he gestured to one of the other adults in the group. That adult went off to the side for a few moments and then came back with a rope in his hand... and a beautiful white goat with black spots on the end of that rope.

Reed's eyes grew and she gasped in excitement at the beautiful goat while her father continued.

"Everyone, this goat belongs to John over here, and her name is Saphire. As you can see, her horns are not as long. That is because she is a female. Only female goats can give milk..."

And the meeting continued on that way for 40 minutes. Eventually, they all got to pet the goat and try to milk it just a little bit. They didn't want to dry Saphire out. Toward the end of the meeting, Reed and Akira's father had one final thing to add.

"I have talked with your parents and with their help and some donations from private 4H donors, each of you now have one young goat to take care of on your own farm! You will keep weekly journals and we will all review them together once a month. See you all on Wednesday!"

He clapped his large, rough hands once and everyone got up from the benches and started talking excitedly with each other as they walked along the playground and toward the front of the school to go home. Some kids who lived in other towns carpooled together. Akira and Reed, of course, rode home with their father.

Reed was looking at her sister as they waited for her father and the other 4H leaders to finish talking and was smiling brightly. "Akira, can you believe it?! We each get our own goat to take care of!"

Akira smiled back, her hands in her pockets, as she looked over to Saphire.

"Mhm, definetly didn't expect that! I hope my goat will be as beautiful as Saphire over there! It should be a lot of fun, but we can't go neglecting the other animals, you know how they get so picky!" the brunnet replied, before looking and admitting to her older sibling, "I...Had a lot of fun today. I'm glad i came, but you don't know how hard it was to resist the temptation of home." she joked.

((...What's the '4H Club'? ...Horses, I'm assuming? Maybe? I honestly have no clue, which is the only reason I'm not too keen on making Foster involved...))
