Akira frowned slightly at her sister, knowing full well that Reed was the quiet type (except when she was yelling at her every morning to not miss the bus...), but she still wished her older sibling would speak up and defend herself some more!

"Well okay...If you say so, but if anybody gives you any trouble, i'm on it!"

As they continued to walk, she wondered where her best friend Elionne was. They always did go to the same school, but never on the same bus, even though she did live close enough to the farm.

When Reed explained where to go and what to do to get to her locker and homeroom class, her stomach felt like butterflys where flapping around aimlessly, but she quickly shook it off and nodded.

"I don't mind at all! Plleeaassee come with me! But that won't make you late for your class will it? Then again, i know it's the 1st day and they don't do the absents list or anything, but i know you don't like getting the "classroom spotlight" on you."
Meanwhile, Christabelle walked - no, marched - no, it was more like speed walking - from the bus port to her first class. She sailed through the crowds of students like a ghost. A mean, angry ghost. Christabelle's eyes were glazed over and her eyebrows were furrowed, and her mouth contorted into a small scowl. No wonder the underclassmen avoided bumping into her in the hallway. There were rumors that she was an evil cultist that would turn you into a deer and leave you to the hunters. These stories were generally forgotten after hunting season though, although some of her classmates wondered why she never bothered with trying to prove her innocence.

Reed laughed softly at her sister's comment and nodded her head. "You are right. I would not like that attention, but I won't be late if I show you where your homeroom will be. I'll show you 5 minutes before classes start, so I'll be able to still get to mine."

Then, Reed had finally found the locker number that was written on Akira's class schedule. So, she waved her hand with the paper in it in the direction of the locker. "Here's your locker, Akira."

And right before Akira could even say thank you, a girl with pink hair tied up in braids rushed down the hallway, grinning. She yelled out, "REED, AKIRA!!!!" before gently tackling and hugging Reed.

"I've miissseeddd you guys soooooo much!!!! I hate leaving on a trip with my parents the last month of summer!! How are you guys???" She asked, still clingling to the person she always thought of as an older sister, having no siblings herself.

Akira giggled as she watched her best friend practially strangle her older sister with lovable hugs.

"Hey Elionne!! I was wondering where you were!! Can you believe it??? Were high school students now!! And summer was a-okay, i miss it terribly already!!!"

Reed had heard Akira's best friend Elionne before she had felt her death-grip around her neck, so she wasn't caught off guard when it happened. She did laugh, though, and glanced at Elionne.

"Good to see you again, too, Elionne. I actually think it would be kinda nice to go on a trip during the summer, just to get away. But then again, I wouldn't be able to take care of Spider..."

"EEEEEEE!!!!! I know!!!! No more junior crap!!!" Elionne replied happily to Akira before nodding in sympathy too Reed. "I know what you mean, you love that horse way too much to let somebody else take care of her for a whole month!"

While the pink haired teen was chatting with Reed, Akira went ahead and turned the lock combination of her lock, then opened her locker, and right away started to unpack the school supplies she'd wanted to drop off.

With a heavy thud, the large box of supplies was finally delivered to it's destination. It had taken over an hour to pack away all the supplies in here and move it to the teacher's supply room. Especially since someone just HAD to lose the dolly somewhere in the school, and couldn't afford to go looking for it. Well, that was just one box. Hopefully there was enough time to get the second box as well. Otherwise, there went part of lunch period.

Blake let out a long sigh. Sometimes he wondered why he was so helpful. Something in him just refused to say no to anything except the most outlandish requests. It was just completely against him to do so. But he was certain that his life would be a little easier if he could say no every once in a while. Maybe next time...

He turned and was just about to head out, when someone ran up rolling something he could have used since the beginning. "Hey! I found the dolly!"

It was then that Blake noticed all the aches and pains from carrying that large box down from one end of the school to the other. His back, arms, and legs all cried out to him to just go sit down already and ignore this guy. He quickly told his body to shut up though. He gave the other student a smile and started walking down the hall. "Thanks. Now let's go get this last box. Homeroom will be starting soon."

Reed just happened to look up at one of the many wall clocks in the hallway and saw that she only had 2 minutes to get to homeroom! When had the time gone by so quickly?! Usually she kept track of the time much better than this!

She looked back at her sister and frowned slightly at her. "Akira, I'm so sorry, but I have to get to my homeroom! I don't even have time to find my own locker. My class is on the 2nd floor. For your homeroom, just go around the corner to the right and it'll be your 3rd room on your right. It's really easy to get to."

She used her hand to point in the direction that her sister needed to go in and then which direction to turn.

"Good luck Akira! I'll see you at lunch! We both have A lunch, which is the first one."

Then, she turned around and quickly raced up the stairs and to her homeroom with Mr. Kraig.

Akira and Elionne listened to Reed, both feeling sympathetic for the older girl, having to rush like that and it was practically their fault that she did have to hurry so much just to make it too class.

"Okay, thanks again sis! Good luck!!!" Akira called to her sister as she dashed off.

She looked back to her excited best friend and grabbed a notebook and her pencil case from her locker to take down notes of what the teachers would like them to have and bring too classes.

"See you later!!! Well, we already know were in the same classes, which is totally awesome, so let's get going, kay?" Elionne asked Akira, already ready to start walking to class.

"Ya, i just hope Reed won't have any trouble with her classmates this year..." she replied as both girls started running off to homeroom, following Akira's sister's directions.

Whoever thought up the dolly deserves a medal. Or 20. It took only a fraction of the time to carry the second box to the storage room. When Blake put the last box down, he looked down at his watch. With the dolly, he should have had plenty of time to get to homeroom. And by plenty of time, he meant one minute. He cursed under his breath and took off from the room after making sure to lock it.

He dashed up the stairs and made it to Mr. Kraig's room JUST before the bell rang. As an effect, someone actually stood up and yelled out "SAFE!!!" He glared slightly at the guy, and walked over to his seat, slumping over his desk tiredly.

Reed had been looking down at her open notebook on her desk. They were actually last year's notes for an entirely different class, but she had to have something to do. If she just looked around, the teacher might try to strike up a conversation with her, and then she'd be the center of attention, or her classmates would start teasing her slightly. So, she had to give herself something to look at.

She jumped slightly, though, when someone ran into the room at the last possible second and jumped again when someone yelled out loudly right after the guy came in. When Reed raised her head from her notebook to look at who had entered, she saw that it was Blake Winterwood. It was quite odd to see him coming in late. He was usually right on time, if not in fact early.

She didn't have much time to think about it, though. Mr. Kraig stood up to begin class and laughed softly at the antics of the individual who had yelled 'Safe'.

"Alright, alright, James. Thank you for that announcement. Now, please, sit down, and you as well, Blake."

Once everyone was seated and the laughter had died down, Mr. Kraig sat on the top of his teacher's desk in front of the class. "Now, I don't really have an itinerary to follow as your homeroom teacher, but I would like to know what you all did this summer. Let's start with...."

His eyes fell on Reed, who was still looking at her notebook. He had known from past classes he had had with her that she was paying attention. She just didn't want to look up. He wanted to try and help her come out of her shell. It was so hard to do when your peers were trying to come into their own, sometimes at the expense of others around them, but he couldn't just give up on her.

"Reed. Please tell us about your summer vacation."

Reed nearly cringed when Mr. Kraig called her name first. Great... But, she stood up slowly and took a deep breath. She tried to shut out the soft laughter behind her and some of the comments. She was used to them.

"Yeah, this should be over in 2 minutes."

"All we're going to hear about is her riding her horse. Can I take a nap?"

They had been whispered to their friends, but Mr. Kraig still heard them. He looked sternly at the students before him, and that was all he had to do. Students knew not to mess with Mr. Kraig. He was an awesome, cool teacher. You didn't want to get on his bad side.

Reed continued, her voice soft but still audible and clear. "I... I went with my father to the state's capital for the farm fair there. We bought 20 new horses and I worked on training them this summer. A lot of our heifers also gave birth this summer."

She heard the soft giggling behind her as she quickly sat down.

Mr. Kraig was again scowling at the students in front of him that were snickering, but he didn't want to make a big deal about it because if he did, it would bring even more attention onto Reed, since what she said was why her classmates were giggling.

He sighed. "Thank you, Reed. Congratulations on your larger farm. I love horses and grew up on a farm myself. You and your family have worked hard to have such a successful farm."

Reed looked up for a few moments and smiled thankfully at Mr. Kraig. He really was a really nice man.

Then, Mr. Kraig called on a few other students to tell the class about their summer vacation. To be honest, Reed's sounded more interesting than half of the others', but because she was quiet and didn't talk just to hear her own voice, some classmates picked on her. It wasn't that frequent, but it still ticked him off. Oh well. At least high school was very temporary.

Halfway through the students, Mr. Kraig turned to Blake. "Blake, how about you?"

Blake looked up from his comfy face down position on the desk. He couldn't be bothered to move, and the story of his summer vacation was pretty much the same as last year: nothing. But he stood anyway. "Well, I mended my roof, fixed up Mr. Turner's car when it broke down, made a new swingset for the local park, and... That's about it."

He could already hear the kids gossiping amongst themselves. Goodie-two-shoes, repair boy, teachers' pet... Say what they want, but when something went wrong for them, they'll be singing a different tune when they asked him for help. He sat down, completely ignoring what they had to say.
After Blake had sat down, Mr. Kraig called on Christabelle next. She stood up and glanced around at her classmates, smiling ever so slightly. Ohhh, she was looking forward to seeing their reactions on this. "I went to Norway with my mother," she started. "It was cold, I ate Black Pudding before I found out what it was, and the only people I met who could speak any decent English worked were old decrepid professors who had bad breath and kept trying to hit on my mom." And much to Chris's misery, it was all true. "The end."

Blake, having never been to Norway, raised an eyebrow and asked a question he was sure was on most of their minds. "Uh... What's Black Pudding?"
