While her father was doing this, Reed had finally finished with her long shower, putting lotion on her body, and brushing her teeth. There was one thing she had apparently forgotten, though...
Clothes. In her rush to been her sister to the bathroom, she had forgotten that her pajamas were not in the bathroom. They were still in her room. Well, she had wrapped a towel around her before to walk around the house. Not often because her dorky older brother would jokingly tease her about it, but she had worn just a towel a few times in many cases like this one.
She also had to go downstairs to get her backpack with her homework in it. She had left it by the side door when she and her sister and rushed into the door after seeing their goats the first time. The upstairs bathroom was halfway between hers and Akira's bedroom and the stairs. It would just be faster to go downstairs and then come back upstairs to dress in her pajamas.
So, Reed got one of the longer and fluffier light blue towels out from the bathroom cupboard, wrapped her around it, knotted it at her breastbone, and opened the bathroom door. A billow of steam followed behind her and some of the water was still dripping from her hair, even though she had towel dried it as best she could, but she didn't care. She'd mostly be walking on carpet that would absorb the clean water.
Reed lightly walked along the hallway to the stairs, flitted down the stairs as if she was as light as a fairy, and stopped by the side door. Her backpack was right where she had left it. With one of her hands on the knot of the towel, she bent her knees just enough so that she could reach her bag but not enough to cause the towel to ride too far up, just in case one of her family members was in the kitchen behind her. And her father was obviously in the kitchen because she heard him clear his throat and then say..
"Reed, sweetie?"
Reed put a smile on her face and turned around to look at her father. Maybe he had something to tell her about his meeting with Mr. Coltaire....
Oh... dear.... God...
Mr. Coltaire. Mr. Coltaire was sitting at her kitchen table. Mr. Coltaire was eating their cookies and drinking their coffee beside her father. Mr. Coltaire.... could see her in her towel, and just her towel!
Reed gasped, dropped her bag, which landed on one of her feet and caused her to wince, and threw both of her hands up to the top of the towel. Then, out of pure horror, she shrieked and ran as quickly up the stairs as she could, to her and Akira's room, and slammed the door shut behind her.
David had a small smile on his face, put his hand to his forehead, and shook his head slowly as a deep chuckle came from him. "Oh dear. Looks like Reed will be mortified for a few hours. I'm sorry about that, Mr. Coltaire."
David would normally never laugh at the embarrassment of one of his children, but he knew how temporary this incident was, how minute it was. Reed would get over it and it was not that big of deal. Her reaction had been the biggest surprise, and he couldn't help but laugh at the complete shock and horror in her eyes.
