((Alright! biggrin ))

David was a little surprised when he saw Micky Raider open the door to the guidance counselor's house. But only a little as when he had pulled up, he had seen that Micky was Mr. Coltaire's next door neighbor. That was very good for Micky. He had seen the bruises on her before quite frequently. Most people had. David had tried to step in and help before, but the police told him that unless Micky came to them herself, they couldn't do anything. So he was very relieved to see that a guidance counselor lived next door to her now and that she apparently was very comfortable with him.

When Mr. Coltaire smiled and let David inside, David made sure to wipe his nice shoes on the mat outside. He made sure to wear his nice shoes into town all the time, but he still made sure to wipe his shoes before entering a building or home.

He took Mr. Coltaire's offered hand and shook it firmly but friendly. He gave a bright smile that he usually was too shy to use. "Good evening, Mr. Coltaire. I am David Caribea, Reed and Akira's father. I know you just moved here a few months ago, so you might not know Akira, but Reed has mentioned you before. She is very impressed with you."

"Ah, Reed's father! I'm sorry, I believe I've seen you at school functions, but I couldn't place the face. Please, come into the kitchen and I'll grab us some coffee." He invited, gesturing to the next room and starting up the coffee machine before he turned to Mr. Caribea. "If you'll excuse me for just a moment, I have to make a quick call." He said, grabbing the phone. Punching in Kevin Raider's number, he waited until the other man picked up, then explained that Micky would be home shortly. After he hung up, he took out mugs for the coffee, looked to see how much longer it would take to brew.

"So, Mr. Caribea, is this a business call, or simply a social visit?" He asked pleasantly, a bit confused.

David smiled from his seat at the kitchen table. "David, please. And, actually, Mr. Coltaire, it is both a social visit and a business call. I had been wanting to meet the new faculty member of the school, but I also have a proposition I'd like you to consider. I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone this way."

David leaned back in his chair and casually brought up one of his legs so that his ankle rested easily on the knee of the other leg. "You see, I am the head of our 4H chapter in this area. The smaller surrounding schools have their students attend our 4H chapter, and this year, we've had an unusual influx of students in the group. Now, this is wonderful, but we are a little short handed with just myself and 3 other volunteers. I was very much hoping you'd consider joining our team and helping us out after school. It's every other day after school, starting on Mondays, and it's only an hour long."

He paused here to allow Mr. Coltaire to ask any questions or make any statements.

((Huh? Why is that, Lisa? lol.))

Reed had smiled softly and laughed a little when she saw her sister grab a book in the barn and begin to read to her baby goat. That was just adorable, both of them. And sure enough, the goat behaved, for the most part, and fell asleep. It was wonderful to see Akira interact with an animal that was actually hers, not just an animal on the farm that she liked but was still the property of their father. Reed had gotten her own animal when she was in 7th grade during 4H. That was how she got Spider.

Speaking of Spider, Reed was now trying to get her baby goat and Spider to get along well. Spider had been nervous and had backed up slightly when he saw a new face coming near it, but Reed kept feeding her while petting her baby goat. The goat, being a baby, was curious about everything and was slowly inching toward the large animal before her and sniffing the air. But neither animal seemed hostile in the slightest, so Reed was happy for that.

Reed chuckled softly and while still keeping an eye on her two animals, she spoke to her sister. "Hey Akira, I think I've come up with a name for my goat. Charlotte! Get it? Charlotte's Web and my horse is named Spider. So the goat will be Charlotte! What do you think?"

((Lol because He's 32 and she's only 16, so no dating for her XP))

Akira walked over to Reed and kneels infront of her sister's baby goat, smilling warmly.

"Charlotte eh? Yup, i like it!! But...My teacher in Junior school, forget who, once told the class that "Charlotte" was a really dirty name...Err i forget exactly, but it's not dirt dirty if you get what i mean..." the brunnet tried to explain, having a very akward time doing so, since the name actually ment something perverted.

((Ooooh! lol. Well you know, Reed should have a birthday soon! How about tomorrow in the story?? biggrin ))

Reed couldn't help but laugh softly at her sister's embarrassment. After all, she had embarrassed Reed a few times tonight. It was all in good fun.

"Well, I think we should go inside, Akira. We have homework to do and then bed."

She closed the gate to Spider's pen and then lead Charlotte over to her pen and did the same. She had fed them both and gave them water as well as to all the other animals, too, with the help of her sister. She had also brushed Spider and Charlotte.

Reed walked outside of the barn and waited for her sister to follow her before closing the barn. She couldn't wait to have a hot shower before tackling her homework.

((Lol that would be cool, but shall not help with the age issue much MUHAHAHAHA!! XP))

Akira had made sure to put away her book back on the shelf, but as she had turned around, she had stared wide eyes in disbelief at the vivid, blue, wavy line leading from Charlotte's pen to the entrance of the barn.

Shaking her head lightly and watching the colored line dissapear, Akira realized that she really needed a good night sleep.

The younger sibling ran over to Reed and groaned softly at the mention of homework.

"Do i haaave to??? It's the 1st day of school, why did teachers give us hom-Wait!!! I don't HAVE any!! Awesome!!!"

((Suuuure it won't. wink lol!))

Reed mock-scowled down at her sister as she raced out of the barn to stand beside her. "No homework? How is that fair?! That just sucks... Well then that means that since I DO have homework to do tonight and need to relax before doing it...."

Before she finished the sentence, Reed shut and locked the barn door. "THEN I GET THE SHOWER FIRST!"

Reed bolted toward the front door, running as fast as she could. She threw the front door open and didn't even stop to say hi to her mother again. When she was upstairs, she smiled brightly as she saw that the bathroom was free, raced into it, and shut and locked the door behind her. She threw her hands up in the air and did a small victory dance.

"I won!! I won, I won, I WON!"

Akira knew what her sister had been about to do before she spoke her last words, well more like yelled, and dashed, like a crazy person running away from a crime scene, to the house. Laughing and running, the brunnet let her sister win, after all, Reed did have a very good point, so this teenager could and would survive a hour or so of no shower.

When she arrived at the house, the little sister rapidly took off her shoes, said a quick "Hi" to their mom, and rushed upstairs, skipping two steps at a time.

Knocking on the door lightly, she fake growled, a grin on her face.

"Ya ya, you win THIS time Reed!! But beware older sister, for the next time, you shall not be so lucky!! MUHAHAHAHAH!!!" Akira mimicked a creepy, evil person's voice perfectly, then bursted into laughter.

Foster listened with some surprise at the offer, looked at his mental calendar. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays were free, that was for sure. He usually spent the time watching Micky practice or doing inescapable little things like shopping or, God forbid, the laundry. After a moment, he nodded, bringing a cup of coffee over to David. "Yes...Yes, I think I'd like that very much. I grew up in the country, so I know a thing or two about animals...I'd be delighted, Mr. Car-...uh, David." He said, a relaxed smile on his face.

David smiled brightly and thanked Mr. Coltaire for the mug of coffee. "Wonderful, Mr. Coltaire. This is wonderful. And since this is Monday, you don't have to start in on the 4H matters until Wednesday. There's no pre-planning involved, unless you decide you want a more active role once you get more familiar with 4H. We just mainly need your help with helping students with their projects during the meetings. We don't have enough leaders to help all the students. And there might be some help with carrying boxes and corralling some animals that we bring in. Does this sound good to you or did you have something else in mind?"

He took a sip of the coffee, which was really quite good, and waited for Mr. Coltaire's response.

"Oh, that sounds perfect. And it would give me a chance to see how the kids interact with animals. You can tell so much from how a kid treats a pet." He said, pulling an 'I'm a psychologist' moment.

((Hmmm... I wonder... hehehe... twisted ))

David nodded eagerly in agreement and even dropped his leg back onto the ground. "That is very true! That is why I believe that 4H would be a good addition even in cities."

David quickly finished his wonderful coffee, put his hands on his thighs and slowly pushed himself up. "Well, it's getting on in the evening, now. I know I said you don't have to worry about 4H until Wednesday, and you don't if you don't wish to, but if you're free tonight, I can take you to my house and show you the roster of our kids and leaders. That way, you will be prepared when going into the meeting Wednesday. I can drive you back when we're finished. It's entirely up to you, though."

Foster looked around his otherwise empty kitchen, at the modest pile of plates in the sink, the might-be-dead...he thought that was a spider, sitting in the middle of the floor. A chance to do something productive away from here. "Sure, why not?" He said, getting to his feet and casting an evil glare at the little carton of white rice Micky had left behind-most likely on purpose.
