"Wait, what? You're not sticking around after we get to Teach's place?" Tohru was more than surprised to hear that Jira; Savior of Faces, was planning to leave as soon as they got off the bus. She must've had one hell of a reason to split off on her own rather than go with them to a safe spot and get organized. If he knew the reason he would be quicker to understand, but at the moment he thought it was her looking to get herself killed. Kind of like the red head that crash landed on the roof of the bus and skidded off the back end, ending up on the road. It happened so fast that Tohru couldn't even get something out of his mouth before Shin went off on Remus, going so far as to lift him up and toss him into a seat and nearly taking out Emiko in the process. This had Tohru's full attention and wiped any sort of joy from his face, a tight-lipped, narrow-eyed stern look replacing his usual smile. 'Suddenly, leaving doesn't sound so bad.'
The rest of the ride was fairly quiet, aside from the whispers coming from Momoka and Ryuzaki and the sounds of things hitting or being hit by the bus. Even Tohru couldn't think of a smartass remark to things, but was also keeping himself from doing so in the event that Shin kept his word and tossed one of them out the door and into the street. The teacher's voice picked up again, re-stating the options everyone was entitled to, but also followed up with a warning against being stupid. The bamboo sword that was given to him by Akira wouldn't do him any good in a fight against one of those things or a live human, other than to push the former aside and leave a nasty ache in the latter. They just weren't made for killing, and by no means was he a swordsman like "Afro" or Ryuzaki. Had he a gun, or even something like a baton or a steel pipe, he could make much better use out of one of those than the shinai he had sitting beside him with the toolbox of goodies. Words, like Kira's, that he needed to hear. His heart was in the right place for wanting to help and protect the people he was with, but he wouldn't be able to do it with what he had.
Sighing and looking back at the bamboo sword, he eyed it like a disappointed dog owner and sort of hoped it would suddenly just burst into flames on the spot. "He's right y'know, Toshigi? That knife's not gonna do a whole lot to those things without getting you dead along with them." Tohru crouched down beside the seat that Jira was in, more doing so so he could pull the gym bag's carry straps over his shoulders and wear it like a giant back pack, but was looking to her as he did so. The thought of her running out in the streets and getting attacked due to being under-equipped really was bugging him quite a bit more than he'd like to admit. "It doesn't take a genius to figure out you're going somewhere specific, but getting there's gonna be a b***h with what's going on and having no plan to rely on. Come with us to Teach's place, we can figure something out and go about doing a thing or two about that knife of yours while we're at it." With the gym bag finally on his back, Tohru stood back up and swung it side to side to make sure it was going to sit properly, and it felt like it was going to. Glancing back to his fellow eyepatch-wearing survivor, he flashed his trademark grin to her. "It'll be worth it in the long run, promise."
When the bus came to it's stop a few blocks away from Shin's place, Tohru made his way out after Shin and the ones closer to the door, but waited for the people who were behind him to get off the bus. With the large bag plus the shinai over his back and the toolbox in hand, he would be slowed down to avoid making extra noise, so didn't mind if he was at the back of the group. This way, too, he could hang back should someone fall behind like Kawahara had on the way to the bus. He had no idea she was asthmatic, up until he caught her fumbling with an inhaler before they all boarded the bus earlier. Even if it wasn't her, Tohru would stick to the rear to make sure everyone got to where they were going safely and alive.
