    Hello there, and welcome to Gyakuten Souko, a semi-literate real-time Ace Attorney roleplay! I'm the Gyakuten Souko moderation account, and I'll be your hostess for the duration of your stay here. Before you scroll on down to check out the rules and taken characters, there are some things you need to know regarding our history and the roleplay's setting.

    Firstly, a good amount of our players were previously part of another Ace Attorney thread, and as such the characters belonging to these players will most likely refer to the events of said thread. We can't just retcon it - we'd lose more than a year's character development. If you're confused by something any of the characters are saying in regards to that, then feel free to ask. So don't worry if you see them talking about something you weren't there for - you didn't miss a super-secret event, you just weren't around during the times when those things happened.

    Now, the setting. In order to carry on from where many of our characters left off, the main IC thread - this thread - is set in a warehouse on Gaia. No, we're not doing an ohnoes-trapped-on-a-website thing; we're playing as though this happens in the Gaian world. Specifically, the warehouse is located on the Isle de Gambino. More detailed information regarding how the warehouse came to be known as the "Gyakuten Souko" - the "Turnabout Warehouse" - can be found in the "History" post.

    As stated before, this roleplay is real-time. Taking into account the fact that time passes and the days pass in the roleplay as they do in real life, you are not required to make ultra-long posts - just to use proper spelling and grammar, even if you are posting just a one-liner. Literacy is not measured in the length of your post, but in its coherency.

Rules


    1. Be polite to your fellow RPers.
    We are all here for the same reason: to have fun. When you're impolite to the people around you, the level of fun just drops, and that is the last thing anyone wants. Also, you just end up looking like a jerk. So let's be mature people and do our best to get along. If you have no intention of being civil to the other RPers, then don't bother posting here.

    2. When posting in IC locations, stay IC.
    The point of playing a canon character - or any character, really - is to play them the way they ought to be played. You must be especially careful when playing a canon and do your best to be accurate in your portrayal of said canon. Also, we'd really rather not have pages and pages of out-of-character conversation in the middle of the in-character threads, so please keep out-of-character chat to the out-of-character thread, and only use OOC in IC threads to let people know if you have to leave suddenly. On a similar note, do not drag OOC biases into your relationships with the characters while IC, and do not hold grudges against the muns for acting IC-ly while playing a character.

    3. If you have a problem with someone, handle it between the two of you.
    We'll have enough IC drama from plots; we don't need even more stemming from a problem between two muns. Please, handle all OOC problems between you guys and try not to bring other people into it - when OOC drama becomes suffocating, people stop having fun.

    4. Talk to the moderators.
    Always get a approval from the moderators for any characters, plots (more information regarding plots in rule 8), locations, etc. Everything must be approved by us before you are allowed to go with it. You don't have to reveal all plot or character details, but it must be enough so that we can judge whether it is acceptable or not. If it is not acceptable, we will work something out with you until it is. There are three moderators and two mod assistants, so someone will most likely always be around to talk to.
    If you have any problems or complaints with the roleplay, feel free to tell us about it, we're here to make sure things run smoothly. If other members of the roleplay find complaint about your character or plot, again, we will work with you until it the issue is resolved, provided you can't work it out between the two of you first.

    5. ALL characters must fill out a profile.
    Please see the Character Thread for information on joining.

    After you are accepted, please post your profile in the Character Thread before making your first post IC.

    6. Doubles are allowed with the Original's permission.
    If you want to play another version of a character that is already taken in the thread, you must get the player of the original character's permission first. This includes past or future versions of taken characters, alternate universe versions, etc, along with past versions of a character that was featured in the game. (i.e. Ema Skye from AJ already being played, you would need their permission to play the Ema that appears in Rise from the Ashes.)
    After getting the original player's consent, a profile and roleplay sample must be provided. In the subject line please put "Gyakuten Souko - " followed by the name of the character, and the kind.

    Example:
    "Gyakuten Souko - Mia Fey [Past-Canon]"
    "Gykauten Souko - Apollo Gramarye [Alt-Canon]" (But he's only here for example, so you can't have him. :< )
    "Gyakuten Souko - Phoenix Wright (Hobohodo) [Future-Canon]"

    We reserve the right for a Group-mod override regarding doubles, however. If a perfectly reasonable doubles request is rejected, and the original was unnecessarily harsh or cruel about rejecting it, and the person making the request would play the character well, we can look over the situation. If a high majority of the mods (generally four of us, or all of us) agree, we can allow the person requesting to play a double to play said double. And, in the same way, we reserve the right to deny the right to play a double if we don't feel they'd do the character justice but have the permission from the original, just like we would if they were applying for an unclaimed canon.

    7. Godmodding, Powerplaying, Mary Sues/Gary Stues, are not acceptable.
    To put it simply, nobody is perfect. Part of making a good character and roleplaying is having a well developed and believable character. If your character has god-like beauty, an IQ of over nine thousand, amazing at their job and everything they attempt, and understand the meaning of life, then they're just annoying and suck the fun out of everything. Likewise if your character has been able to win a fight or accomplish something without another character getting a word in edgewise. You can not control a character that isn't your own, and you must get the other player's consent before putting their character in danger.
    If we receive any complaints, we will work with you to remedy the problem as quickly and painlessly as possible.

    8. PM the mod account for approval before starting a plot in earnest.
    We know that some things just happen on the fly; and that's fine, we know some things happen without planning. However, unplanned things shouldn't get to be too big. If it looks like they're going to develop into something big, send a PM to the moderator account. We require a bit of background information on the plot so that people who wish to join know why things are happening and who was originally involved, as well as a username for people to PM if they wish to get involved. We understand that you don't want to give too much away or that you might not know exactly how things will develop, but please, when you're talking to the mods tell us everything you know about it and the way you expect it to turn out; that way we can make sure that you're not doing anything that might be against the rules. We will put a little (non-spoiler) information about your plot in the "Updates and Plots" post once it has been approved. If you need a person to fill a certain role, you can advertise for it in the Plot Request Thread - same goes for if you're looking to get your character involved in a plot, just post there and people can approach you! If things develop in your plot and the Plot post has not been updated to your satisfaction, feel free to send a PM to the mod account to request an update.

    9. Magic is allowed.
    However, you need to use common sense while using it. Please don't use it for every little thing - that just gets old. Ideally, you use it only if you really need to, but when you're just goofing off it's fine to use a little of it, so long as it doesn't do anything too life- or setting-altering. You do need a person's permission to cast a spell on them, but that's no different than anything else. Basically, just be smart about magic use. We'll let you know if you're out of line regarding magic and try to work out a solution with you, but don't be afraid to have magic in the thread!
    In some cases - and these will be plot-approved ones - magic or the supernatural can greatly affect a setting and/or put people at risk. These instances will likely have something to do with the Dark Hour (see: Persona 3) or Silent Hill (see: the series of the same name). In these cases, a thread corresponding to the "alternate" version of a location will be created. By posting in those sorts of threads, you give permission for your character to be put at risk and possibly injured. Major injuries need your permission to happen to your character, but smaller things can happen, because locations such as those are much more dangerous and it's hard to get out unscathed.

    10. We reserve the right to modify these rules at any time.
    If common sense is used and the current rules adhered to, we probably won't need to change anything. However, no one can forsee the future - at least, none of us mods can. If change becomes necessary, we can and will do it in order to keep things running well and to keep the RP fun.

Locations

    Every world has locations outside of the one that people frequent the most - the Gyakuten Souko world is no different. Locations are divided depending on location type, and set in order of canon locations first and new locations second. To clarify, if a canon restaurant and a new restaurant were put on the list, the canon restaurant would be listed first.

    Businesses
    Wright and Co. Law Offices - The home of one amazing porcupine-haired defense attorney, Phoenix Wright! ...no, literally. He's gotten the whole 'office' feel back, but he pretty much lives there, so don't just barge in unnecessarily...!
    Kurain Village - The place for all your channeling needs! Make an appointment with Maya Fey or someone else from the village before heading on up to be on the safe side; walk-ins are taken but we can't guarantee that there will be a free medium.
    Hazakura Temple - Are you a medium in training, or just someone who wants to experience the spirit medium culture? Then head up to Hazakura, the place to go for spiritual training!
    The Detention Center - The place to go to visit someone who's been incarcerated. ...Or, y'know, the place to be if you're a criminal who got caught.
    The Prosecutor's Office - Ever wonder where all those prosecutors actually work? Yeah, this is the place.
    The Police Station - Reporting a crime? Or are you a member of the police force on your way to work? Head here, then!
    Hotti Clinic - Feeling under the weather? Don't worry, the clinic will take care of you... just steer clear of the "Director".
    Isle del Gambino Prison - The local jail, right alongside the ocean channels of the island.

    Restaurants & Other Locations
    Out Back - Prettymuch, the Warehouse's yard. Perfect for Pokemon battles, sunbathing, and swimming. Please, no littering!
    Regrub's Burgers - The highly favored burger restaurant, frequented by Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey. Go on, have a bite to eat!
    Gourd Lake Nature Park - Feel like getting back to nature? Or do you just want to experience the peace and quiet of the water's edge? Then come to Gourd Lake! Samurai Dogs and Tonosamanjuu available at the rest area.
    Vitamin Square - Embrace your inner child and come play at the Vitamin Square playground!
    The Sierra Inn and Cafe - A quaint little inn in the middle of nowhere. Not many people know its location, but the ones who do are generally very pleased with it.
    The Garden of Eden Dance Club - A swinging dance club with an up-class bar and something for anyone looking for a good time.
    Nelly's Bar - An earthy bar down Lenore Ave, known for being loose on legality. No ID? No prob!
    Gatewater Land Theme Park - The latest themepark, take a picture of all the Badger family and you'll win a prize!
    Embassy Alley - The location of all the local embassies, in one easy to manage thread area!

    Residences
    DeRosa Apartment Complex - Small apartments in the bad part of town... But hey, they're cheap!
    Belledion Castle - The royal home of the Belledion family, most famously Aruye Sintar.
    Isle del Nativ Condominiums - A Gambino-based apartment condominium, a bit expensive but swanky!

History


    Built in 2003, the warehouse itself was originally owned by one Johnny K. Gambino, entrepreneur and sexy tycoon madman. After the G-virus incident of 2004, the warehouse was abruptly put up for sale, and Isle del Gambinans began spreading rumors about what its original use was. The general theory was that it housed spare G-virus; others claim actual experimentation was done there in secret. All those who ventured into it found no evidence, but it did have that...mysterious air for the time it was on the market, nobody brave enough to pay the high pricetag on what could be a 'cursed' property.

    In 2005, after the collapse of Gambino's towerhouse, the ensuing destruction left many Isle del Gambinans homeless. The warehouse was declared public property for a short time, and was used to house those during this time. The old worries of the place being haunted was barely an issue in light of the assumed assassination of Johnny K., and later, the washing up of his son, Gino. One of the people who stayed during the period of rebuilding eventually bought the warehouse, and did some rennovations- but, after befalling a mysterious accident, the house went back up on the market in 2007.

    The warehouse was used once again during the waterballoon fight, to produce and house the spare water balloons used by the Isle del Gambinans. However, it went into disuse soon after, and was almost trashed by the sudden influx of especially-destructive Demon Imps during the Gaian Olympics.

    Most recently? The warehouse was bought by a...mysterious person, much to the suprise of the Isle del Gambinans. What could it be used for? Time will hopefully tell...

    It's that time of year again~ And everyone knows that at certain times of year, certain things happen! Read on to see what's going on in the warehouse~! Links to Gaian event threads may also be found here, once said threads are created.

    What Do You Mean It's Not Symbolic?
    Love is in the air, and a lot of people are feeling a bit...amorous. Valentine's Day is a classic for fancy bedroom time, but some people have just never found the right person, or simply have no interest at all! Those pure, untainted people will find themselves with a new friend until about the 15th of February. This new friend is a unicorn, which will follow them until after Valentine's Day. However, since unicorns are innately magical and also regarded as something of a holy creature, if you try to kill, eat, lose, or otherwise harm your unicorn, more than one will come back to fill its place. However, anyone whose virginity is not still intact gets nothing. The players of these characters get to control the unicorn(s) specific to their character(s), and we're trusting you guys not to abuse the privilege. Have fun~
