Dot on Map: Home - Searching for EliasXXParty: Everyone! XXHP: 800XXMP: 60XXSkill Used: Yamato no Orochi

tab It was Shura's first time on the airship. Sadly, she did not have time to investigate every crevice to admire the metal work. She was too preoccupied with the idea that Elias' will be safe. Seymour was most likely on his way to the main base of the Al Bhed: Home. She understood why the Al Bhed had such hate for Yevon. They were purged near to extinction and all that was left was their Home in Bikanel. She wished she had more time to care about another species, especially for one that shared the same interests as her to defeat Sin. People will never see things eye to eye. Shura closed her eyes, calming herself down. The only thing she heard in her ears were Veata's voice talking about retrieving their comrades.

tab By the time they arrived, Shura tuned out most of the explanation about the weapons Veata distributed and created. Her eyes fell on Goba at his words, feeling a stab. She gazed at Goba with a painful look, knowing what he wished. However, she did not know if she will oblige to his wish. Shura honestly did not care what Elias wanted to do. All that mattered to her was his safety, nothing else. If he did not want to continue his pilgrimage that was fine. If he did, then she will follow him. She was going to keep her promise till the end. For once she was glad that she could not speak or else Goba will be even more upset.

tab The female samurai uttered nothing as she stepped off the airship. Her eyes watched a horde of fiends running their way. It did not take long for her to piece the puzzle together. It was clear that Yevon wanted to purge the Al Bhed once and for all, utilizing every resource they had to do so. They will most likely use the excuse of trying to save the summoners and cleanse the world from the Al Bhed trash. Her brows furrowed at the idea, knowing that some of the maesters will do so. If she had her voice she would let out a low growl as she unsheathed her blade.

                                          Yamato no Orochi!

tab The woman's blade plunged into the ground. Dark green snakes erupted from the ground and enveloped those charging at them, making them yell in pain. It did not take long for them to fall once the light disappeared, leaving nothing but their bodies. As the fiends dispersed into pyreflies Shura sheathed her blade and already sped off into the fray. She was wasting no time in searching for Elias. All fiends that stood in her way were being sliced down one after the other. Any people that stood in her way were either thrown against someone else or punched out of the way. The only time she paused in her tracks when she heard an explosion, snapping her eyes in the direction to see smoke enveloping the skies.

                                          'Elias!'

Seymour approached with caution behind Emilia and Tromell. The smoke was getting thicker and it seemed for every passing second there Home seemed closer on the brink of collapse. When they found Seymour, he held her in a tight embrace, just glad that she was okay and seemed unharmed. "Yuna! Are you hurt? I was worried," he asked, eyes scanning her over.

"They're over here!" Someone exclaimed from afar. Not a voice of the Al Bhed. In fact, it sounded familiar to his ears. Thinking that it was an enemy of some sorts, Tromell held Misaka even tighter, now backing to a corner. Just in case anything happened, Seymour raised his staff. "Lord Seymour!" the man rushed in, his bow loaded with an arrow. "Lady Yuna. My name is Oneeye. Second Lieutenant of the Crimson Squad." As best he can, he gave a cut bow. There was blood splattered across his clothes, stained on the patch that covered his eye. He peeked outside and when it was clear, only then did he start speaking.

"The others are outside," he started, his voice airy, "They're bringing in more forces to occupy Home. First, I'll escort everyone to the ground floor. We've prepared an escape, a boat back to Bevelle for you Maester Seymour and Lady Yuna."

"The little one knows the way," Seymour added, his blue eyes darting to Emilia.

Loading his bow once more, the archer went about with caution. At the sight of an enemy, he released the string, lodging an arrow precisely between the man's eyes. Soon they were above ground, and rattling of the guns and cannons firing only seemed to grow louder. Tromell was last in line, but he was soon joined by another one of Bevelle's warrior. No, a Guado necromancer by the name of Gracilis.

"Over here!" Oneye yelled.

As Seymour held her tightly, her hands rested on his chest as she sighed with relief. "I'm alright, they didn't hurt me. They just put an inhibitor on me. I didn't mean to worry you." She was unharmed as she said, the blue and white single cuffs humming as they kept her magic abilities suppressed.

Emilia was beside them immediately, already working to enter the access code to deactivate the cuffs to free Yuna. As she heard the other voice, she worked faster, and soon the sound of a click and a relieved sigh from Yuna was heard. Emilia set the cuffs on one of the crates in the room as she stayed by Yuna, wanting to keep close to the older woman.

As Aries entered the room, Yuna was beside Seymour her staff just as ready as his. Misaka hadn't made a peep since the elder Guado had picked her up. She did snuggle closer to Tromell though, as if understanding that he was trying to keep her safe.

Yuna listened to what was being said, and frowned slightly. She knew Seymour had to be livid about what had happened. There was a good chance that Elias was right, her cousins and uncle would be extremely lucky if they did survive this assault. Emilia was a bit more careful after being struck by the Bevelle solider, and lead them as quickly through the complex as she could. As they got above ground and daylight could be seen, Emilia lead them out through the various hallways to get outside, but had to be a bit quicker.

As they were joined by the Guado nercomancer, Emilia was trying to figure out the easiest way out without getting caught in anymore cross fire. "Where is the boat out to take us back to Bevelle, I need to know to get us to it faster." She explained.

Shin Mistwalker

Blinding rays of the sun shone down upon the armour clad Berserker, the courseness of the heated dry sand rubbing against his face as his body was washed ashore. Shin's clothes were soaking wet, freezing in comparison to the blazing sun above. After the battle with Sin, Ixion had eventually vanished with shin on its back in the middle of the ocean. The huge tidal wave created by Sin; not helped by the fact that Shin was wearing full armour, engulfed the Berserker sending him way off course. It was by no stretch, a miracle that he had survived an onslaught by such a creature. Suddenly Shin shot up to his hands and knees coughing heavily as sea water discharged from his mouth. After a few minutes of severe coughing , Shin turned over onto his back, laboured breathing as he tried to compose himself. "...This again?" his mind ran even before he opened his eyes. He remembered clearly the first time he had survived an attack from Sin, this time he thought he would crush the monster, but once again he was swept away like trash. Even after gaining all this strength. "I need more power." He said out loud, his throat parched while the taste of salt still lingered in his mouth.

Slowly, he opened his eyes waiting for it to adjust to the sun's glare. Sitting up, he surveyed his surroundings. Nothing but sand as far as the eye can see. "How long have I been out? Where the hell am I?" he thought, slowly standing up on wobbly legs. Somehow he managed to keep hold of his sword during the entire experience, but then it hit him. He didn't remember if this was even his sword... in fact he barely remembered anything beyond his name. Still somehow he remembered facing off against SIn, not once but twice. The scent of cinnamon still drifted around him. "Sin's toxin." Once more, he was hit by Sin's toxin losing his memories in the process. For the second time in his life, this had to be some kind of record. "s**t." he said before looking over the wastelands of Bikanel and starting to walk off in a random direction. Wandering aimlessly was now the only option available to him. Perhaps somewhere in this vast desert he would find civilization. After what felt like hours of walking, another familiar scent came to Shin. Blood. A sign of fighting, something his body remembered well as he dashed towards a structure that looked to be under attack.

It wasn't the ideal situation for him, but it was some form of civilization, much better than trecking through the desert and basically waiting to die. As he neared the structure a mechanical device jumped out at him, slashing down with what looked like a laser blade, instinctively Shin nimbly dodged the blade at the last second so it hit the sand below him, before thrusting his fist through what he assumed to be the head of the creature. For a moment he intended to draw his sword, but a foreboding feeling came to him when grasped the hilt. Letting the sword alone for a moment the man charged into the fray, with no idea who might be friend or foe, but the sight of combat alone drove his body to act compulsively. The first to attack was an Al bhed, firing a gun at Shin, who kept charging towards the man, blocking with his gauntlets before he reached the soldier and slammed his fist into the side of his head before driving it into the stone floor of what the Al Bhed called Home. Chaos and death were rampant, yet somehow, Shin felt right at home among all the bloodshed, as if he was made for this. Without hesitation he charged in at the next person to attack him...

With the ship parked, and the protective barriers keeping it from harm Veata began suiting up herself, placing goggles over her dark gray eyes, and gloves upon her hands as she then began to check each vial that hung around her belts, and in her coat only looking up when the man known as Goba addressed her causing her to grimace slightly, with a soft sigh. Her ship wasn’t a taxi -- sure she felt bad for the kid and his group but what was the point of taking them away from some temple? “Yeah sure---I can’t say if what you're choosing is the right choice especially without him to discuss his point but I’ll see where I can stop---anyways the back hatch is open, good luck in finding your summoner. I have to find my parents, and one of my own men now.” With that she began to take her leave. A cup of tea in one hand, a vial in another, and a flask of whiskey held upon her thigh as she descended down the stairs of her ship leading down to the open hatch, to be welcomed by hoards of angry al-bhed, fiend and guado alike. “Hello darlings. . . wonderful to be home, really it is.” she spoke taking a sip of her tea, before winking towards them all, and simultaneously throwing a small vial that began producing a thick smoke around them all once it had smashed into pieces upon impact on the floor. Within a matter of seconds a few grunts, and screams could be heard from within the thick smoke, with yelps of pain coming from some fiends and guado alike it was hard to dinstinuih what was happening within the black smoke, almost like an animated cartoon scene when tussles happened.

The affect of the gas had helped disorient the enemy around Veata, and for those who were weak enough were sure to fell to the knockout gas around them from without the smoke, making them all to easy for the woman to pry on, as she still held upon her tea-cup in a dainty like fashion.

With the smoke beginning to clear now around her, it was easy to see that the small fight would be Veata’s to claim, and sure it was a dirty fight; but a win was a win and her fields were barren with no ******** to spare. With the smoke clearing around her the women looked around no undisturbed from the chaos and could get an easier bearing on where she was at home, and as the smoke continued to clear she turned in time to make eye-contact with a man who seemed to be in a punching spree, without any real goal insight, she would have said something his way if it wasn’t for the persistent guado who somehow managed to push himself up and charge towards Veata in a blind rage. Quick flick of her wrist sent the scorching hot tea straight over the guados face. “oops” was all she said before going in for a graceful kick that sent him up a bit only to follow suit with a hard thump onto the ground knocking him out finally.

With that, she looked over to the man and made eye contact with him raising an eyebrow slightly. Enemy or Friend. He had a choice, and she would offer peace. “Yo” she spoke, before raising her flask of whiskey towards him in a ‘sharing’ manner. “Care for some. . .?” a question that was more of a test of good will on his part, was he here to fight her, or just in need of some direction. . . .

indent By the time Zephyr actually thought to think to check his location, he realized that he strayed pretty far from the airship Celeste. He had wandered off into the woods of Besaid Island, and as of right now? The Al Bhed youth didn't really want to go back. Still rather emotionally sore over that argument with his childhood friend, Zephyr was a little more than happy at the solitude he had.

indent Zephyr was still staring at the tree lines as he heard the sound of rustling brush behind him. Whipping around towards the sound, he immediately cried out Fru'c drana?! (Who's there?!). However, the moment he was facing the sound he felt something hit his shoulder. Blue eyes immediately took notice of the dart and he promptly tore it off of him. But it was way too late, he could already feel the effects of the drug on him.

indent 'Ruf luimt E pa cu ******* lynamacc?!' (How could I be so ******* careless?!)

indent As he fell forward, drowsy and limp onto the ground, Zephyr felt his fingertips brush against cold metal. That's right, he still had that communication device. Fighting to stay awake, he felt around for a specific button and pressed against it as hard as he could. As he heard footsteps and then blurry pairs of shoes approaching him, he started wondering how the Al Bhed knew he was here. Of all of Spira, how did they know he was here? (He was unaware of the kidnapping that had happened moments earlier).

indent While Zephyr faded out, he still held onto his train of thought.... Vashyron wouldn't have sold him out, if he was going to then it would've happened a long time ago. Vashyron was currently on the airship; Celeste. And Celeste was owned by.... 'Veata.... Oui....' (You....)

indent Eventually, the effects of sleep wore off, and Zephyr pulled himself to his senses, and realized two things. One, the Al Bhed that had caught him put a straitjacket over his clothes. Two, they weren't on Besaid anymore. His surroundings was definitely something that wouldn't be on the tropical island. He eyed the steel bars around with him with certain dread, and even though he wanted to cry nightmare, he knew this wasn't the case. The only conclusion he could make was... 'dryd fusyh cumt sa uid!' (that woman sold me out!)

User ImageThey called him One-eye. He moved forward out of the out of the center building, steps quiet and cautious. He peeked and only when deemed it was safe did he proceed. At the sight of an Al Bhed, he buried an arrow in the back of his neck, severing his spinal cord. There was a chance that the he wasn’t going to shoot them, but there was also a chance that he would, and it was a chance he wasn’t going to take. His mission was to bring them all back to Bevelle, alive. Home had been infested by fiends and he could hear the Al Bhed’s desperation while their machine guns cracked endlessly. They were surrounding by ten other tall buildings. Their first obstacle was to maneuver out of Home undetected. “Ten-too-six,” he said. The necromancer nodded and repeated the same.

“It’s on the eastern shores of the island,” she said to Emilia, keeping her voice low and proceeded to give her some specific landmarks to solidify her point, “We passed a field of cactuars and two pools of quicksand when we were coming.”

“Delta-delta,” He had her attention, “Ten-seventy-wun at tree o'clock!” She nodded and spun her hand around, causing unsent pyreflies to spin around her in a beautiful, majestic flurry. The pyreflies then took form, merging together to form Zu. The winged creature took off, tackling the machina sent out by the Al Bhed. Capitalizing on the death around her, she summoned again, this time a pack of vicious sand wolves to strike the foot soldiers. One-eye proceeded with Seymour and Yuna behind them, following Emilia’s directions when she offered it. While impressed with her knowledge at such a young age, he said nothing. He could see her amongst the Crimson Squad in the future. Occasionally, Seymour would fire a spell or two, but his focus was on the little ones and Yuna. Tromell was not forgotten, and impressively, the aging servant had kept up, just a tad out of breath.

They continued forward through the thick dust of sand and gunpowder, the explosions, and then a pack of machina robots lunged at them. One-eye held his ground and unloaded an arrow at them, only to have it deflect off of the hard, metal armor. He held his breath while Seymour blasted one to bits with a current of electricity. By then One-eye had already pulled another arrow from his quiver, loaded it, and let it fly between the machina’s eyes. The arrow exploded. And he did this for the next three in quick succession, just shifting ever so slightly in between each shot to adjust his targets.

Load, release, load, release, load, release. Only having one eye to see through, he was pretty damn precise with his shots.

Then, a machina from their blindspot charged towards Tromell. Hearing the quick, metal footsteps on the sand, One-eye shoved Tromell aside just in time to see a light splatter of blood and turned around to build momentum and power while unsheathing his great broadsword. “AAHHHH!” He drove his weapon downward with such force and brutality that it nearly severed it in half. When the coast was clear, only then did he turn around to see Tromell on he ground in pain with a bleeding gash on his arm, but Misaka was still safely wrapped in his arms. “My goodness,” he groaned. Seymour aided Tromell to his feet, seemingly unwilling to let go of Misaka.

Partying Reveler

Khazek followed Kura on to the boat after their passage was granted, he felt bad that he hadn't been able to help her make her decision but it was an interesting question. On the one hand the calm was their first priority, but if ignored who was to say that Seymour wouldn't just show up and help sin when they were fighting. The further they got from land the more confident he grew in their decision, his heart wanted to help those innocent that had been kidnapped or attacked. When they had boarded the Ronso made a quick sweep to become familiar with his surroundings, it always paid to know what was available should an issue arise.

Once he was comfortable with the watercraft he took up a place along the railing near his summoner, she was invested in a conversation that he listened to with interest. Having joined on late it meant he had a lot to learn about his fellow travelers and not much time to do it, now that Kura's safety was on top of his priority list he had to do things a little differently. Leaning in he asked her a question softly, "so what do you think we can expect at our destination?" He wasn't sure if it was going to be a more private affair or an open battle, either way they had to be careful not to drag anymore innocents into their situation; he felt bad for the trouble at Besaid.

Shin Mistwalker

After literally punching the guts out of a few soldiers who came at him, whether they be Al bhed, guado, human or whatever else, Shin’s attention turned to an airship that landed outside of Home, protected by some sort of barrier. A large hatch had opened with stairs leading down, a figure stepping out of the darkness inside the ship, revealing one of the finest creatures Shin had ever laid eyes on. She scanned over the battlefield full of confidence, giving a knowing wink to all foes in sight before beginning her assault. Immediately Shin identified the substance she had thrown, putting him hands up to his face to cover his mouth and nose, for what little good that would do. Even with the thick smoke swiftly expanding, fiends still rushed towards the berserker. A large wolf baring its fangs launched itself at Shin, who without hesitation grabbed its upper and lower jaw to prevent it from rushing in further to take a bite out of him. After a momentary stalemate with the fiend, neither party budging an inch, a tearing sound was heard, followed by the agonized squealing of the beast as Shin tore its jaw clean off from both sides.

For a moment he locked eyes with the woman who came from the ship, who was busy dealing with her own opposition. Judging by how the girl fought she was obviously an alchemist of considerable skill. Luckily for Shin her concoction would take a bit longer to affect him than most, thanks to arduous training of his physical abilities at least. Still in this atmosphere he wouldn’t last long, but where could he go? Beyond this place there was nothing but desert as far as the eye could see. Shin quickly moved to make his way out of the smoke, getting far enough so that it was no longer as thick. He took this time to see what the mystery woman was up to now, seeing as she was probably the most dangerous threat to him at the moment. After dealing with her enemies the woman once again locked eyes with Shin, but strangely this time she called out to him rather than attacking. “Yo.” She said casually, as if addressing a friend. “Care for some. . .?” She asked, holding up a whiskey bottle.

“Stay here in this miasma infested, war-torn desert where I’m sure to die of wounds, starvation and heatstroke… or take a cool drink with a hot babe on an airship… tough call.” He said sarcastically, smirking a bit before leaping up in the air towards the girl, coming down with an arching crescent kick to the head of a guado approaching her from behind, crushing it with one blow. “If you don’t watch your own a**…. I have absolutely no problem watching it for you.” He laid out his innuendo-ridden statement, cracking his neck to loosen up the muscles after a long a** fight. “The name’s Shin. What might be the name of the beauty that came to my rescue?” He would have given his full name…if he hadn’t forgotten what it was, but either way this was the only way he would be able to make it out of this dump. “So do we drink that now or later?”

"Thank you, Koda," Although a little help would never hurt, she didn't want to drag Koda any further. This was Kurayami's battle and when she gets involved in risky business like this, it usually didn't end well.

Kazek was silent and yet he also looked confident in Kurayami's eyes. That meant he had chosen the path of Bikanel too, she assumed. When asked about they'd find in Bikanel, Kurayami shook he head. "There are so many possibilities." She thought hard about his question. The images were running through her mind, one after another. Some were pleasant, others not so much. She crossed her arms gently. "They could be unharmed, for all we know. Perhaps he hasn't arrived on the island yet. But, if he can kill his own father in cold blood, what do you think he'll do to a population which he see's as second-class?" She didn't even bother trying to veil Yevon's brutality.

She didn't expect an answer, but hearing her own question, she could finally see things from Rikku and her family's point of view. It was embarrassing that it took her this long to figure it out. "Would you... fight to the death for someone you love with all your heart even knowing they have committed a heinous crime?" she asked Kazek, Koda, and herself. The morally correct answer would be no, but...

When the ship arrived on the shores of Bikanel, she could already see the pillars of smoke rising. Was that the Al Bhed? She could also see a line of soldiers donned in Yevon's uniform headed towards Home. The pain in her chest was growing. She sent her prayers to Yuna and Rikku, knowing that it would only help marginally. They had to move quickly. She bowed to Koda again.

"I am in your debt, Koda. Thank you for your offer, but it wouldn't be right for us to ask for any further assistance after all that you've done for us already. And I'm not sure Hyde...!" BOOOOM! There was an explosion coming all the way from Home that shook Kurayami's heart. No more time for talking! She nodded again to Koda and took off with Kazek.

Arriving at the outer perimeters of Home, things looked disastrous. Al Bhed bodies were scattered around, some dead, others broken so badly that they were beyond repair. Kurayami kneeled by one Al Bhed, seeing the cut on his neck spraying blood. She took out a potion, but he refused it. The least she could do was give him a proper sending, she thought. Her eyes went to Kazek, wondering if he could help. "Da soooomoonurs... d-d-d-ooooun duh-air!" he barely managed to say, but his hand pointed to the entrance of Home.

...And if not,

The cycle is endless...

--- Bikanel ---
Koda listened carefully to the conversation she was having with the summoner and her guardian. Upon hearing Kurayami ask her question about fighting to the death, the songstress felt her chest tighten with anxiety. “I did.” She replied crossing her arms, symbolizing she was a little guarded about the topic. Her face had a strange serious and soulless look to it when she thought on the matter.

The woman quickly returned to her cheerful self. She had always been one to temporarily shake things off with a shrug of the shoulders or a shake of her head. “ Who said I was giving you and Hyde a choice?” Koda replied in her playful cheeky tone. Suddenly a loud explosion was heard in the distance just as they docked and people were starting to unload. It made Koda jump a mile and her hair stand up.

As Kurayami flew off the ship to help the others so did the siblings. Hyde however kept a fair distance for the summoner as she performed her sendings, knowing what would become of him if he got to close. There were certain things Koda had to be cautious of as well but they were a little more avoidable. “Hyde! Help me out here?” Koda called out to her brother, wandering why he was being so slow. “Right!” He replied running over to the person his sister was assisting.

Looking down at the wounded person Hyde felt a sense of relief to see them still breathing. “Lets try to get this lady up.” He said coldly but hopeful. Koda gave her brother a look, her eyes seemed unearthly. “Don’t bother.” She said in a serious tone, placing her hand on the dying woman’s heart. “This woman is going to die in …3…2…1.” Sure enough any sign of life had left the women as Koda had predicted.

Hyde swallowed in fear. “How did you…?” He said backing away a little from his sis ter. “There are some things I can do that others can’t.” She explained. “Each one of us has different things we can do, see, hear and smell.” Koda added meaning that she was referring to aeons. “I’ll move as quickly as I can to figure out who is worth saying and who is better just to be sent.” Hyde was worried with his sister, he had been noticing a pattern for some time now that when she was faced with mass amounts of death; Koda’s personality changed. It was like the cheerful young woman turned into a serious old being.

occ : Just ignore the part about Koda being able to sense people's death. Too lazy to re write. We'll just say she went to help people.

(Since I am mad rusty with Vinn, I'm doing first person to see if it helps. Sorry for the lateness. Busy with school essay and research things.)

I brace myself for the ride when Veata said we’d be Home within three minutes. In three minutes, I suppose I could inform Ayame about the blue-prints. Relay Kinoc's message and what I've learned, but I didn’t think I could do it without leaving large gaps and holes in the story. I try to anyway. The moment the ship moves, I lose my breath, and I grab on the railing with a white knuckled grip. Slowly, I let go when the ship comes to a stop.

Being here in the presence of guardians, Al Bhed, and people who were just in between like myself-- was hopeful. That a group of us, stemming from various parts of Spira, could work hand in hand without holding knives to each other’s throats. We had conflicting goals; yet, they also aligned in the sense that we all wanted nothing more than to end Sin. I wonder: What would happen if we were to triangulate our options we know so far to end Sin instead of relying on one method? There are many different avenues to breaking Sin’s outer shell, but if we all converged on the same spot, then maybe, just maybe Sin wouldn’t come back and haunt us again.

Such a thing feels like a far away dream, but everything starts somewhere. I find Ayame and tell her about what happened in Kilika. In record time, I spill everything I know thus far. I tell her about the morning after Operation Mi'ihen. It was implied that Maester Kinoc's involvement in this was not a good thing. It was also implied that I'm playing a risky game by keeping the blue-prints to myself instead of handing them over to Kinoc, as I was tasked to do. Meaning, I was committing treason and if they ever got a hold of me, they would sentence me to death. In a organized and sequential fashion, I begin with the origins. The idea to build a machina so strong and powerful that it could put a permanent end to Sin, but only to end with failure when Sin got to them first. How they penned it in symbols that no one could decipher but the people that designed it. How someone, a dissenter like myself, stole the blue-prints from Yevon's hands and hid them secretly within hiding places across Spira no one would ever dare turn upside down: The temples. I explain the scripts that don't make any sense. Meaningless symbols. What happened in Djose and Kilika, I briefly skim over.

I decide to skip Kurayami's involvement, only saying there were others, namely the clergy of Yevon, vying for the blue-prints just as he was. Somehow, getting ripped to pieces by a Dark Aeon felt insignificant to the promise that the blue-prints brings.

When I'm done speaking for three minutes straight, I ask her to keep it a secret. Even to her summoner. Secrets, hah. If there's one thing I learned crusading under Kinoc's reign, it was, as he's always said: Dead men tell no tales. Only if they're sent to the Farplane or locked in a cave.

I'm usually good at reading profiles, but I can't decipher what's going on in Ayame's head, in her eyes. I look in her eyes, trying to find something, but in her reflection I just see myself and then a white flash. The white flash consuming Mi'ihen. Bodies vanishing. It's the same flash that keeps finding a way to my dreams. Sorry about Isao, I want to say, but my jaw tightens.

When Veata tosses around her bullets, I snap out of my reminiscent daze. I pretend to know what she's talking about and I zone out after my mind fixates itself on the word cordolane. I crack a smile at Rihdan and Veata, because I know he was speaking the truth before she confesses it. The urgent sound of Vashyron swirling off his chair catches my attention. He cocks a gun and storms off, saying, "E'mm pa pylg. So vysemo'c tufh drana-- cusafrana."

When I flash him a passing glance I can see that his eyes are red with tears, but all I can feel is anger radiating. Instinctively, I grab his arm and bring him to a halt. "E lyh ramb," I say, earning a dangerously red glare.

"Syga dras byo." The evil tinting his voice sends a chill down my spine, but I nod, slowly. It's the first time I've seen him like this. I don't see it when he charges out of the hatch, but when I peer through the window, I understand Vashyron's need for revenge. Plumes of smoke obstructed my view, but it wasn't difficult to see the place he used to call Home was now a graveyard of ant-like bodies with splotches of dark red littered on and around them. Homes burning. Friends and family dying. Why did it all seem so familiar? Nobody deserved this.

Suddenly, something flashes in my mind, and I'm taken back to Kilika. To speak of Spira without evil is analogous to a carver without tools, a railroad without tracks, a love story without love. You can't have one without the other. Spira’s evil is eternal.

I shake my head and gear up. There's always some level of uncertainty when walking to battle, so I add some protective plates for armour. I also put a little device in my ear that connects to another device through a spiralled cord, and I pin it to the collar of my shirt underneath. It feels odd in my ear, but I manage. Here, they call it a radio.

When I meet Ninja by the hatch, Connor, Veata, and even Vashyron are already out. I mount my chocobo quickly, not used to being last. Ninja, my chocobo that goes berserk over a tuft of greens and craves my affection, has become a warrior, as she did in situations like this. She can smell the blood, and I can see the flaming desire to protect flare in her eyes. I click my tongue twice and squeeze my legs together, clanking on the armour. Ninja takes off, leaping off the hatch, and we're instantly greeted with a choking gust of Yevon-knows-what. My heart is pounding my chest and I can already hear Vashyron screaming obscenities in Al Bhed and the unforgettable cracking sound when he pulls the trigger. We descend in a slow glide and I frown slightly when I can't recognize anyone.

'Kweh! Kweh!'

Before we land, I leap off, landing near a dual-horned fiend called-- well, Dual Horn. With haste, I gather power in my legs and hips, spin, and deliver a roundhouse kick to its head. I see Ninja hadn't yet landed, but she's resting on a Guado's shoulders, painting her razor sharp talons a dangerous red. 'KWEH! KWEHHH!' He drops to the floor from her weight, facedown, and she drives her head down, locking her beak between the Guado's neck with disturbing precision. Before I see what she tears out, I send another flying side-kick that puts a dent in the fiend's skull. By the time I turn around Ninja's already on her next victim while the Guado lay motionless, cold.

Emilia was reasonably unfazed for a child at all the dead that was going on around her. But if one paid enough attention they could easily see that she was not thrilled with it. Though she could handle herself in stressful situations, she didn't like seeing anyone dying. A traitor she got from her mother. As Oneye and the Guado woman told her what she needed to know about the location of the boat she frowned. "There aren't any worm nests that way...and we'll have to cross a big distance in cross fire to get there." Said the child, already plotting a course to try and keep them out of harms way.

Yuna couldn't figure out why the little girl would know so much about Home as she did, but she felt a surge of pride at what the girl was capable of. The little one kept pace with herself and Seymour as they moved through the halls. Her eyes were watering from the smoke and gunfire. At the back of her head she felt the call of claiming sacrilege. But so much of what she knew now was already as such so to even draw attention to it seemed pointless. Yuna went to help cover Emilia, just as Emilia cast another ice spell. The little girl winched slightly, realizing she had no more Mp left to cast after that last one. But one of the stray robots was encased with the ice before being fried with electricity

Through everything, Misaka continued to rest in Tromell's arms. Even as the old servant was attacked, she slept still. Yuna was beside Tromell the second he was helped but, casting a cure on the old man and sighing with relief to see that was all that had happened to him. The fact that the child was save.

Was she worried? Ridden with guilt? Of course. But Ayame refused to let herself linger in those thoughts. She couldn’t. She’d push them to the back of her mind and deal with them later, when they were at least relatively safe. Besides, it sounded like the trip to Bikanel, wherever it was, would only take a matter of moments. The speed of the airship was still astounding; if the Al Bhed had unearthed this sort of technology, what other machina lie waiting for them to rediscover? What else had their predecessors invented that Sin had destroyed and Yevon kept buried?

Vinn soon provided her with at least one answer.

He spoke of blueprints and symbols and a weapon designed specifically to defeat Sin. Ayame assumed that he’d been working under Maester Kinoc, and she didn’t have to try very hard to envision the future that awaited if he ever caught up with Vinn. That the blueprints remained in the temples at least explained why he’d bluffed his way into Kilika, although it still didn’t explain why the aeon attacked them.

Even as Vinn continued speaking, her mind latched onto the script the blueprints used. Meaningless symbols. She wondered what they looked like, and she wondered if the designers had left any clues to deciphering them anywhere. Ayame couldn’t believe that if someone truly believed their creation could end Sin forever, they would seek to keep it secret from everyone who came after them in the event that they failed. She doubted that anyone outside of Bevelle would intentionally do something like that. Somewhere in Spira, then, there had to be a key, a ledger, some sort of hint. Something. Anything.

Unless Sin had already destroyed that, too.

Ayame’s gaze met Vinn’s as he asked her to keep all of this information secret. She nodded once, then exhaled softly. Memories of Mi’ihen bubbled to the forefront of her thoughts, unbidden. Everything about these blueprints instinctively felt the same to her as that operation had, and even the disastrous outcome and everyone that had been lost couldn’t change that.

“Vinn,” she said. “Let me help.”

There was no time for anything else; they’d landed, and this place called Home hardly looked inviting. No, fiends ran rampant throughout the pieces of the structure she could see, and—were those Guado? Her jaw clenched, and not for the first time in her life, Ayame thought significantly better of the Al Bhed than she did of the Guado. Part of her wanted to attribute the horrors they were instigating here as a result of their adoration and dedication to Seymour, but that would be absolving them of too much.

Her gaze surveyed the chaos awaiting them, shifting from Vinn to Veata and Shin—whose appearance made little to no sense, but there wasn’t time to pry into that now—and finally stopping at Shura. Ayame felt a small bit of relief at how reliable the other woman was in battle, and taking her staff into her hand, she turned her head towards Goba.

“No need to waste any more time here,” she said, then stepped off the airship.

Ayame directed a few spells at any fiends that came too close as she maneuvered through the battlefield, slowing down only once she reached Shura. She followed the samurai’s gaze to the newest plume of smoke, her own eyes narrowing. Occasions like this, she almost wished that she knew any time magic spells to help them wade through the number of enemies faster, but there was no helping it.
