BESAID | ビサイド島
A small tropical island on the southernmost end of Spira. It was fairly recently attacked by Sin. The only populated area on Besaid Island, the village is a small settlement which is famous for the fabrics and clothes it produces. Once long ago, it was a Machina City that was destroyed by Sin; the ruins of this city can be seen throughout the island. The temple in Besaid was home to the fayth for the aeon Valefor.
KILIKA | キーリカ
A medium-sized island north of Besaid and just south of Luca. The island consists of a small port and village, a large jungle and a Temple of Yevon. It is famous for being the home of High Summoner Ohalland and the Kilika Beasts, the local blitzball team. Kilika Temple is located on the far side of the forest north of the village. It is built atop a fire mountain and the Fire-elemental aeon Ifrit can be obtained. The fayth of this temple is a former Crusader.
LUCA | ルカ
The southernmost location of the mainland, Luca, is a large city home to Spira's pastime, Blitzball. Because of this, the Crusaders, a group organized to protect the people of Spira from Sin, fought to the death in order to protect it. Blitzball was the only form of entertainment for the people of Spira during the time of Sin, and losing the stadium would have been a serious blow to their morale. It is the second largest city in Spira, after Bevelle.
MI'IHEN HIGHROAD | ミヘン街道
Mi'ihen Highroad is a road between the city of Luca and Mushroom Rock Road. The road was named for Lord Mi'ihen, the founder of the Crusaders, then called the Crimson Blades, who walked down the old path on his way to Bevelle to answer the challenge that his group was a threat to Yevon. It is called a Highroad because of both its altitude in relation to Luca, and the fact that Mi'ihen walked the "Highroad" when he decided to face the maesters of Yevon instead of antagonizing them.
DJOSE | ジョゼ
It is primarily a highroad running between the area of Mushroom Rock and the Moonflow. At the junction before entering the Moonflow road, a short path leads the way to Djose Temple, the only notable feature in the area. Of note, when Sin runs wild over Spira, the rocks normally covering the temple would separate and hover in mid-air when a summoner prayed to the fayth. The temple in Djose was home to the fayth for the Lightning-aeon Ixion.
MOONFLOW | 幻光河
The Moonflow is a large river that dissects Spira's main continent into Southern and Northern halves. Moonlilies grow on the Moonflow's banks and pyreflies gather on its surface at night, making the water glow and sparkle. Long ago, in hubris, a city was built on top of the river. However, nature prevailed, and the city sank into the waters. The people of Spira viewed this city as proof of the rightness of Yevon's teachings; even with its plethora of advanced technology, the city still sank into the river.
GUADOSALAM | グアドサラム
Guadosalam is the city of the Guado, and gateway to the Farplane. The city sits on the path from the north bank of the Moonflow and the southern trail of the Thunder Plains. It comprises three levels with the exits at the bottom most points, the path to the Farplane on the upper level, and the Palace, residence of the current leader, at the center. Most summoners only made a short stop here on their way to the Zanarkand Ruins to pay respects to their fallen.
THUNDER PLAINS | 雷平原
The Thunder Plains is a long open barren landscape connecting Guadosalam to Macalania Woods. It is the site of a vast, never ending thunder storm. There is a travel agency at the halfway point and a few ruins located around the plains. Many travellers met their end here.
MACALANIA | マカラーニャ
Perhaps the most striking location in all of Spira, Macalania is a large sparkling blue forest, full of glowing crystal formations and shining skyways. It is comprised of a vast forest filled with beautiful springs and campsites; a frozen Lake, where one of Rin's Travel Agencies can be found; and a magnificent ice palace: Macalania Temple which sits atop the frozen waters, home of the fayth for the aeon Shiva (the reason for Malacania's frozen environment).
BEVELLE | ベベル
The capital of Spira's dogmatic society and center of the Yevon religion, lies on a thin strip of land slightly north of Macalania. The city is built as a series of layers, with the headquarters of Yevon located at the top. The Via Purifico, located beneath Bevelle, serves as an oubliette for outcasts. People who question the church's policies are thrown into the Via Purifico, a large underground sewer full of fiends. The temple in Bevelle was home to the fayth of the aeon Bahamut.
CALM LANDS | ナギ平原
It falls between Macalania Woods and Mt. Gagazet on the summoner's pilgrimage to Zanarkand. It became known as the Calm Lands because it is where summoners defeat Sin and bring the Calm. The Calm Lands also houses the hidden Remiem Temple, which was lost as Sin tore the earth asunder with the last of its strength combatting High Summoner Gandof, where the Fayth of the three Magus Sisters aeons rest.
MT. GAGAZET | ガガゼト山
Mount Gagazet is the highest point in Spira and home to the Ronso tribe, as well as the fayth of Zanarkand. Only summoners and their guardians are permitted to pass beyond the mountain gate as it is the final test of the summoner's resolve before entering the Zanarkand Ruins. It is littered with the graves of summoners who died trying to pass.
ZANARKAND | ザナルカンド
Zanarkand is a former metropolis which lies at Spira's northernmost edge. The desiccated ruins of the once great machina city, Zanarkand. Once so active and full of life, it is now dark and home to only dust and fiends. Yunalesca awaits the arrival of the strongest of the summoners, so that she may give them the Final Summoning to defeat Sin.
BIKANEL | ビーカネル島
A large desert island far to the west of Spira's mainland. It is primarily a large, arid desert with an oasis, featuring palm trees and a drinkable water source. Bikanel Island had hosted at least one large city in former times, most likely in the time around the Machina War. As the signs on the ruins are all in the Al Bhed language, it seems the former city of Bikanel was already an Al Bhed city.
BAAJ
Baaj is a mass of ruins off the mainland of Spira, situated south of the Island of Bikanel. Baaj was a great island city before an attack by Sin left the underlying geology permanently destabilized. Most of the city collapsed into the sea, save for a series of interconnected ruins surrounding the temple. Baaj Temple, home to the aeon Anima, is the only remaining building on the archipelago, though it is in poor structural condition.
