"Spira is full of death...
only Sin is reborn, and then only to bring more death.
It is a cycle of death, spiraling endlessly."

Story

User Image
About one thousand years ago, there was a great war—called the "Machina War"—between the cities of Zanarkand and Bevelle. Yevon, Zanarkand's ruler, could see that his city's summoners were no match for Bevelle's machina, but he was unwilling to allow his city to be swallowed up into the pages of history. He devised a plan to preserve Zanarkand's memory for all eternity, even if he could not save the city itself.

At Yevon's order, most of the surviving common citizens and summoners of Zanarkand gave up their lives to become fayth, whom Yevon would then use to conjure a summoned form of Zanarkand, using their memories as the basis for this massive summon. This summoned replica of the city was to be an ideal paradise, removed from conflict and those who would infringe upon this city's tranquility. This summoned version of the real Zanarkand is called "Dream Zanarkand".

To accomplish this, Yevon manifested the city out at sea in an undisclosed location, far removed from the Spiran mainland and the warmongering Bevelle. As an added protective measure, Yevon created a gravity magic-forged armor. Using the gravity magic to surround himself with pyreflies, he led them to create an armor that would terrify all Spira: the monster known as "Sin" However, not only was this armor designed to protect Dream Zanarkand, but he also "programmed" it to attack areas with high populations and advanced technology, thus bringing technological progress to a halt and keeping the people of the mainland from giving much thought to what may lie far out at sea.

Unfortunately for Yevon , maintaining his summoned city and creating Sin was a greater strain on his human mind than even he—who was considered peerless amongst summoners—could handle. His humanity rapidly faded, and all that was left was the instincts to maintain the summoning , and to protect this summoning from other Spirans, by means of terrorising them enough to quash curiosity about what was out in the ocean, and by destroying all means they had of finding or threatening Dream Zanarkand . Sin's first act as an instinctive beast, "programmed" to destroy advanced technology, was to decimate the original Zanarkand. Sin would then go on to bring dread to Spira's citizens for a millennium.

The teachings of Yevon—said to have been left by Yevon to his daughter, Lady Yunalesca—were implemented by Bevelle to maintain order. They did so by leading Spirans to believe that Spira may someday be free of Sin, should they atone for their "sins". In actuality, Yunalesca and Yevon are believed to have planned it this way from the start. Bevelle believed Sin to be an aeon summoned by Yevon as revenge for conquering Zanarkand's defenders. In a deal with Yunalesca to appease Yevon's wrath, she offered to provide them with a means to maintain order and hope for the common people—Yevon's teachings—in exchange for them ensuring that Yevon be praised and glorified. They agreed, and the temples of Yevon were born, teaching that machina were forbidden, that Sin was a result of humanity's pride and use of machina in the first place, and that Sin could only be vanquished when humanity had attained purity and been cleansed of its past sins. Until then, it was said that only the ritual known as "the Final Summoning" would provide brief reprieves from Sin's terror, called the "Calm".

Calms would come when a summoner managed to complete the summoner's pilgrimage, obtaining their Final Aeon from the unsent spirit of Yunalesca in the ruins of Zanarkand. Yunalesca herself was the first high summoner, transforming her husband Zaon into a fayth, and using him as her Final Aeon to defeat Sin. The Final Summoning requires that the bond between the summoner and the individual who becomes a fayth for the Final Summoning be a powerful, personal bond, such as that between siblings, friends, or spouses. Only then would the bond between the Final Aeon and the summoner provide enough power to shatter Sin's armor. Unfortunately, the art of the Final Summoning only ensured that Sin would return, as Yu Yevon's spirit would emerge from the cracked armor of the defeated Sin, and possess the Final Aeon that had destroyed the monstrosity, using that Final Aeon as the core for a new Sin, beginning the cycle anew. The Final Aeon, now in the control of Yu Yevon, kills the no longer needed summoner. Yunalesca herself faced this fate, but her conviction to pass on the Final Summoning kept her in Spira as an unsent. After the defeat of Sin, the Calm would then follow, providing a brief period of respite from Sin's destruction while Yu Yevon created a new Sin around the Final Aeon he had possessed.

Thus it was for one thousand years: Sin would be defeated, the summoner who achieved the feat would die, and Sin would be born anew, then defeated and born anew, again and again, leaving destruction and sorrow in its wake all across Spira. This repetition of death was known as "the spiral of death".

                        Continuation of Part 1 ...

Guidelines to Follow

User Image
                        General Rules
The genre of Final Fantasy X includes: Action, adventure, drama, and romance. Use them – balance is key. Mature themes like swearing and violence going beyond Rated T are also welcomed with open arms. Again, moderation is key – don’t overdo or underdo it. No God mode or Mary Sue or Gary Stus; everyone should know the drill of fair paly. Having some characteristics of Mary or Gary are OK, having a complete mosaic of them is not.
Big Bad Hooker is the creator. No - I am not God or King or whatevs. I can't ******** stand people like that. I don't take s**t from people that say that and I don't expect anyone here to take s**t from anyone either. I'm just there to reinforce the rules and keep …To the Farplane alive. Nothing more, nothing less.

                        Concept
... To the Farplane is like playing Final Fantasy X with your unique character(s). Essentially, you're penning your character's story in Spira, but the story won't follow the game step by step. It still focuses on the Summoner's Pilgrimage throughout Spira and heroes trying to vanquish Sin, while the antagonists do what they do best. There will be twists and turns; don't expect a dupe of the original game. Major events that took place in the game are still going to occur, like the annihilation of Home or Operation Mi'ihen (But that already happened. Click here and here to see the epic battle).

                        Posting
This is a literate to advanced literate role-play. You decide how much you want to write - just no one liners or anything too short. For those that like to write more: Sky is the limit. And while not a requirement, decorated posts are nice and eyecandy. Joint posts are often underused or not used, but are extremely fun to read and make. Just saying. One post per week should be the goal - two or more to accommodate a busy schedule. Inactive characters will be skipped and peeps missing in action for up to three to four weeks without a word will be at risk of being removed. Fair warning---we are a slow moving roleplay. It is what it is; people are busy. Admittedly, it’s understandable for wanting to withdraw for whatever reason - that's fine. Just shoot me a PM. Life comes first, Mkay?

                        Characters
Characters can either be Summoners, Guardians, or Others (Crusaders, Maesters, Villains, etc). For now only three Summoners slots are open (excluding Summoner villains) and for each there will be a maximum of four Guardians. Additional slots will become available if there is a demand for them. Jobs are not restricted to those present in Final Fantasy X; feel free to choose to any class from the Final Fantasy series. Try to delegate creative roles for newer characters like Crusader, Medic, Merchant, Priest, Sphere hunter, or Thief etc. since the potential is limitless in Spira and the role play is always on the hunt for creative characters and creative minds.

                        Canons and NPCs
Canons and NPCs from Final Fantasy X are permitted on the condition they stay true to their video game counterpart. Characters from Final Fantasy X-2 (Baralai, Gippal, Nooj, etc) are also welcome. Even though the role play is following the major events happening in the original story, canons will be allowed to deviate from their video game plot provided that it's reasonable. For example, it's not a necessity for Lulu / Wakka / Tidus to choose Yuna as their Summoner to protect. Expendable monsters such as Sinscales, Dingos, Priests, Warrior Monks of Yevon etc can be controlled by everyone. However, Sin and other Boss creatures can only controlled by moderators unless granted permission.

                        Profiles
Complete the profile below and send it to Big Bad Hooker titled 'to the Farplane'. What is needed is a basic understanding of a character. Still, there must be some ratoinal logic behind every character's story. 'Unknown' categories and will be rejected unless approved and discussed beforehand.

                        Ending Notes - Important
As most already know, there are dedicated peeps here and we are adamant about carrying the role play to the end and basically, beat Sin and beat the game. An epilogue will be written at the very end; every character that lasts to the end - dead or alive or perhaps a lone pyrefly floating aimlessly - will be part of it. Everyone is invited for the ride, but for every ride there are rules: Be a dedicated person and have a good time. That is all.

A small tropical island on the southernmost end of Spira. It was fairly recently attacked by Sin. The only populated area on Besaid Island, the village is a small settlement which is famous for the fabrics and clothes it produces. Once long ago, it was a Machina City that was destroyed by Sin; the ruins of this city can be seen throughout the island. The temple in Besaid was home to the fayth for the aeon Valefor.

                        KILIKA | キーリカ
A medium-sized island north of Besaid and just south of Luca. The island consists of a small port and village, a large jungle and a Temple of Yevon. It is famous for being the home of High Summoner Ohalland and the Kilika Beasts, the local blitzball team. Kilika Temple is located on the far side of the forest north of the village. It is built atop a fire mountain and the Fire-elemental aeon Ifrit can be obtained. The fayth of this temple is a former Crusader.

                        User ImageLUCA | ルカ
The southernmost location of the mainland, Luca, is a large city home to Spira's pastime, Blitzball. Because of this, the Crusaders, a group organized to protect the people of Spira from Sin, fought to the death in order to protect it. Blitzball was the only form of entertainment for the people of Spira during the time of Sin, and losing the stadium would have been a serious blow to their morale. It is the second largest city in Spira, after Bevelle.

                        MI'IHEN HIGHROAD | ミヘン街道
Mi'ihen Highroad is a road between the city of Luca and Mushroom Rock Road. The road was named for Lord Mi'ihen, the founder of the Crusaders, then called the Crimson Blades, who walked down the old path on his way to Bevelle to answer the challenge that his group was a threat to Yevon. It is called a Highroad because of both its altitude in relation to Luca, and the fact that Mi'ihen walked the "Highroad" when he decided to face the maesters of Yevon instead of antagonizing them.

                        User ImageDJOSE | ジョゼ
It is primarily a highroad running between the area of Mushroom Rock and the Moonflow. At the junction before entering the Moonflow road, a short path leads the way to Djose Temple, the only notable feature in the area. Of note, when Sin runs wild over Spira, the rocks normally covering the temple would separate and hover in mid-air when a summoner prayed to the fayth. The temple in Djose was home to the fayth for the Lightning-aeon Ixion.

                        MOONFLOW | 幻光河
The Moonflow is a large river that dissects Spira's main continent into Southern and Northern halves. Moonlilies grow on the Moonflow's banks and pyreflies gather on its surface at night, making the water glow and sparkle. Long ago, in hubris, a city was built on top of the river. However, nature prevailed, and the city sank into the waters. The people of Spira viewed this city as proof of the rightness of Yevon's teachings; even with its plethora of advanced technology, the city still sank into the river.

                        User ImageGUADOSALAM | グアドサラム
Guadosalam is the city of the Guado, and gateway to the Farplane. The city sits on the path from the north bank of the Moonflow and the southern trail of the Thunder Plains. It comprises three levels with the exits at the bottom most points, the path to the Farplane on the upper level, and the Palace, residence of the current leader, at the center. Most summoners only made a short stop here on their way to the Zanarkand Ruins to pay respects to their fallen.

                        THUNDER PLAINS | 雷平原
The Thunder Plains is a long open barren landscape connecting Guadosalam to Macalania Woods. It is the site of a vast, never ending thunder storm. There is a travel agency at the halfway point and a few ruins located around the plains. Many travellers met their end here.

                        User ImageMACALANIA | マカラーニャ
Perhaps the most striking location in all of Spira, Macalania is a large sparkling blue forest, full of glowing crystal formations and shining skyways. It is comprised of a vast forest filled with beautiful springs and campsites; a frozen Lake, where one of Rin's Travel Agencies can be found; and a magnificent ice palace: Macalania Temple which sits atop the frozen waters, home of the fayth for the aeon Shiva (the reason for Malacania's frozen environment).

                        BEVELLE | ベベル
The capital of Spira's dogmatic society and center of the Yevon religion, lies on a thin strip of land slightly north of Macalania. The city is built as a series of layers, with the headquarters of Yevon located at the top. The Via Purifico, located beneath Bevelle, serves as an oubliette for outcasts. People who question the church's policies are thrown into the Via Purifico, a large underground sewer full of fiends. The temple in Bevelle was home to the fayth of the aeon Bahamut.

                        User ImageCALM LANDS | ナギ平原
It falls between Macalania Woods and Mt. Gagazet on the summoner's pilgrimage to Zanarkand. It became known as the Calm Lands because it is where summoners defeat Sin and bring the Calm. The Calm Lands also houses the hidden Remiem Temple, which was lost as Sin tore the earth asunder with the last of its strength combatting High Summoner Gandof, where the Fayth of the three Magus Sisters aeons rest.

                        User Image
                        MT. GAGAZET | ガガゼト山
Mount Gagazet is the highest point in Spira and home to the Ronso tribe, as well as the fayth of Zanarkand. Only summoners and their guardians are permitted to pass beyond the mountain gate as it is the final test of the summoner's resolve before entering the Zanarkand Ruins. It is littered with the graves of summoners who died trying to pass.

                        User ImageZANARKAND | ザナルカンド
Zanarkand is a former metropolis which lies at Spira's northernmost edge. The desiccated ruins of the once great machina city, Zanarkand. Once so active and full of life, it is now dark and home to only dust and fiends. Yunalesca awaits the arrival of the strongest of the summoners, so that she may give them the Final Summoning to defeat Sin.

                        User Image
                        BIKANEL | ビーカネル島
A large desert island far to the west of Spira's mainland. It is primarily a large, arid desert with an oasis, featuring palm trees and a drinkable water source. Bikanel Island had hosted at least one large city in former times, most likely in the time around the Machina War. As the signs on the ruins are all in the Al Bhed language, it seems the former city of Bikanel was already an Al Bhed city.

                        User ImageBAAJ
Baaj is a mass of ruins off the mainland of Spira, situated south of the Island of Bikanel. Baaj was a great island city before an attack by Sin left the underlying geology permanently destabilized. Most of the city collapsed into the sea, save for a series of interconnected ruins surrounding the temple. Baaj Temple, home to the aeon Anima, is the only remaining building on the archipelago, though it is in poor structural condition.
