The Past; How It All Began

Once upon a very lonely time...there lived a man of sorts. A man who lived in the stars. For the longest time all the man would ever do with his endless decades, centuries and millenniums would be to watch those down on the so-far nameless planet below him. There were no humans to speak of, that he could see. There were simply thirteen very different animals and nothing else. But this never bothered him very much. No matter what the creatures did, some of his loneliness was eased by their faraway presence alone.

At least, for a while.

All at once, it seemed, the man realized that he could no longer simply watch them. Especially after it seemed that in the long years the animals had all lived together, none of them approached the other. They simply lived in their own places, keeping to themselves. Surely, the man thought, that they too had to feel the same lonely feeling in their hearts that he had. No creature, animal or man, was made to be alone. This he firmed believed and taking this belief to his heart tightly, he descended at last to the very planet he'd been watching for so long. Immediately knowing what could ease the sting of loneliness for all those he'd come to care for and himself, the man went to each of the thirteen creatures and asked them to create a friendship with him, if not all those on the planet.

At first, laughter and cold skepticism was all that met the man's words of possibly being friends. Nearly everyone of the animals had thought the man to be crazy. Claiming to have been watching from the stars all this time and then one day wanting friendship from thin air. But each time the man's face fell at their painful chuckling, each of the animals in turn couldn't help but to stop and realize the seriousness of what he spoke. It didn't take too long at all until each animal realized the void in their heart to also be a sort of loneliness, which would prompt them to take the extended hand of friendship the man offered. Not being alone anymore...sounded kind of nice.

When the last animal had finally accepted his offer of eternal friendship-to forever banish any loneliness that would well up within them-the man, now overjoyed, called each of them to a banquet, to which they all came. They would not miss the God's, as they came to name him, feast for anything. The banquet was a joyous occasion for all, until one fateful little question. By this one instant, any hopes of long and happier years was abruptly shoved off the pale-clothed banquet table, to become nothing more than a heavy shadow of a memory.

Though it would be cruel to place all the blame on the tiny feline, it was in a way the Cat's fault. Each of the animals, for one reason or another, had thought to voice their opinions of who among was the strangest, all in jest they assured one another aloud. But as each began to turn their laughter to the Cat for his peculiar color of fur and said they surely he was the strangest and weirdest of them all. Unfit even, to sit at the table, the Ram shouted amidst the laughter of all. Even if their humor was beginning to bite harder than before, the Cat was unmoved in his happiness, for in his heart he knew the truth. He was the one God often confided, what he thought to be, secret thoughts with him; he knew to be beloved. "Surely it isn't so. For I am the God's favorite, right?" At this the God's smile softened by the Cat's warming tone of affection and nodded easily. "Yes." He began, running a hand down the Cat's fur before turning to look at all of his new friends. "You are all my favorites."

But sadly, it didn't end with that. This sparked a deep running curiosity, if not dire need, in each of the animals to know just who was the real favorite in the God's heart. Surely, they couldn't all be as he said. From there, each animal started to unravel their true thoughts that were locked behind the God's misty hopes of everyone being friends with one another. They each knew that the God had come to them, alone and specifically to seek only their own friendship and no other.

The other animals were unnecessary.

All-at-once this thought clicked into the minds of every animals at the banquet at once and a massive argument erupted as to who was the God's true favorite among them all. Before the God's eyes, his happy ideals of a loving eternal friendship was squished beneath the cold selfishness that plagued each of the animals. When he could finally stand no more arguing on his behalf, the God shouted for them all to stop and they each fell silent. "This banquet in over as of now; unfinished and ruined. But I do not blame any of you; I cannot. Though know this: we will not continue this banquet unless you all can work this issue out or come to realize what I have already told you and you've known all along. Until then...my friends." Even with the God's departure, he didn't leave everything behind. The bonds of friendship forged with the animals remained still, even if stronger than before.

The Present; How It Is Now

Even long after the planet soon had humans in near every once-empty inch of earth, the spirits of the animals that loved their God so still lingered. They soon began to reside with a special family named the Sohmas who had special blood that could retain their spirits and bind them to the form of their God who had also come to settle with human flesh. But though the reason for their the Sohma curse has long been forgotten, it does not eliminate it's effects in the slightest. The spirits cursed thirteen people with an inability to hug anyone other than their own cursed family or their God. This was simply because the love for their God shut out any possibility for them to love anyone else at all and this bond triggered a reaction so that no one but their own could bring themselves close to them and form a connection, lest they change in the blink of an eye into their spirit animal. But sadly, for the one who inevitably caused it all, the Cat received the most dire situation. For his deep believed connection to the God, the Cat not only changed when hugged by anyone... but he also harbored a deeper not vindictive side that was only capable of being suppressed by a set of beads made from a falling star/meteorite.

Even with all of this to muddle up their hopes of a peaceful life, the Sohmas maintained some form of regularity in their lives. If the New Years gathering the god commanded they attend each year was any indication of the stability that existed. It was in no was the same type of banquet that had occurred all those years ago, but it had it's simple charms to make the Zodiac force themselves to come for.

Until just this last year, that is.

This New Years was far different from any they had ever had before. It marked the beginning of a whole new year without a vital piece of their little curse. Their God. That year, instead of having the God greet with a half-feigned smile of pleasure, they were meet with a piercing scream of terror. They were meet only minutes after arriving for the evenings festivities with the Ram/Sheep in a soundless expression of horror, finger pointed to a then unknown scene in the room she'd just fallen fallen from. There, hanging by his neck for all to see, was the God dead from an eerily apparent suicide. But still unexplained yet was the bloody words written on the mats beneath him that read "who is the favorite?" for all to see and know.

But just when the Sohmas began to slip into a slight form of insanity from the possibility of what was to come without their God to stand with them, a lone female form with a soft smile appeared from the fog left from that morning several-weeks-later, a box clutched in her hands. The only words she uttered still hang in the erupt silence she brought on the entire household: "Hello. I am sorry it took me so long to arrive but I am your new God. I have a gift for all of you." It isn't perfectly clear what sort of future she brings for the Sohmas but they can only hope, it is for the better.

Can the Sohmas ever hope to rise about the selfish intentions of their own past if any other love virtually impossible to gain?

Only time can tell us that answer and so begins our tale...

• This is an advanced roleplay; that means I want a three paragraph minimum. Though more is preferred and encouraged. A paragraph is 7 to 9 sentences to me.
  
• This should be obvious but minimal to no spelling and grammar errors.
  
• Proofread and edit your post before you actually post it. I don't want mid-way changes. Title: Tell me a broken story. <3
  
• Speaking ~ in bold. Thoughts ~ in italics. OOC chatter ~ [Brackets].
  
• Follow the PG-13 rule. Again, this should be obvious.
  
• Play what you are and nothing else. If you're "evil", be "evil." If you have questions of what who can do what, ask me. Don't assume.
  
• If you reserve a place, you have 3 days to get me a profile before I put it back up for someone else.
  
• PM your profile to me. If you've read the rules, you know what the title should be.
  
• Post once every 7 days, unless special situation needs it longer, exceptions given per excuse. After twenty-eight days, you will be replaced. No exceptions. We have to move on.
  
• I want pretty posting styles. Pictures, color, quotes, etc. Anything. Keep the font 10-11, also.
  
• Post questions in the OOC thread or PM me them.
  
• You are free to write in either first person or third person. No second person. Period. I don't want to see it.
  
• The genders are set; non-negotiable. It simply keeps things even, I think.
  
• Make all profiles reasonable/realistic; should I find things disagreeable, I will ask you to change them. Should you not, you will be barred from joining.
  
• Be creative with what you do! Make drama, angst and action! Don't wait for me to incite things to have things happen.
  
• Don't change the profile application. Period.
  
• I would heavily prefer all pictures used to be anime/manga style. No real life. But realistically drawn is acceptable too.
  
• I reserve the right to refuse character profiles, completely. Even if finished.
  
• Romance is a must~ ;3 Loli-con and Shouta-con, if done without "perverted" elements are also welcomed and slightly encouraged. [I find it cute sometimes~ xD <3]
  
• Be considerate in terms of the amount of time you wait when posting; give others chance, basically.

I know most of you who have gotten this far, are probably interested in filling out the application/profile skeleton, but first I need a background check. It's just to check how to typically post and to verify literacy. It'd like links to posts that are anything BUT introductory ones. n.n;
