![]() Endellion led them back to the Stagehand with no trouble. The evening's drunkards were burrowed into their ale mugs by then, so there were few people to trouble them. She pretended to haggle with the innkeeper over the extra rooms for Aislinn's guards for the sake of appearances. The matter was resolved quickly. She ordered Aislinn and Sonadora to her room and the guards to theirs before ducking into the stables to check on Nokken. The stallion's eyes glittered in the darkness of the stable. "You brought my sister to me, and I am thankful for that," Endellion patted his cheek gently. "But you violated another part of our contract." "Mistress, I--" She smiled bitterly. "I know when you're on the hunt. You stink of pondwater." She walked away, whistling a shrill note above the registers of normal human ears. "I'll send a stableboy to wash you down later." Endellion returned to her suite. "And now that we're safe, we can get back to the question I asked you earlier." She crossed her arms and leaned against the door. |

![]() Endellion stopped abruptly in front of her beast. She ignored the hooded figure behind him. Nokken bowed low to her, his platinum-blonde hair brushing the rough stones of the street. "Find my horse and bring him to the stables of the Stagehand. We'll discuss your punishment later." He looked up, not at his mistress, but at the Novelist behind her. His eyes cried for mercy. "Get moving." He walked past them, his shoulder almost brushing against Sonadora's. Endellion sighed. "You can take off the hood, Ash. I could pick you out of a crowd of a hundred." She battled between the urge to punch or hug her sister. "Care to explain what you're doing out so late?" She looked nervously at the sky. Stars were beginning to show against the night sky. They didn't have time to waste. "We can walk and talk. Tell your guards to relax. They're too stiff." |

Endellion tried to read the spindly gold letters before they sank into the stone. They were absorbed too quickly for her eyes to decipher. "That'll do just fine. I'll be able to find him after that."She grabbed the girl's wrist again, gently this time, and followed the rock's path. They were drawn further and further away from the crowds until they came to a residential area. The alleys were nearly deserted. The captain glanced up at the sky. Stars were beginning to show against the red-violet stain. Endellion quickened her pace behind the golden stone. She didn't want to get caught up in the revelries of the night crowd. She felt for her mount again. His location was still fuzzy, but he wouldn't be able to ignore her. Endellion let go of Sonadora's wrist and threw her will towards the puken. His reception echoed back to her. "Found him. Come on." She snatched up the rock and started running towards him. --- The puken was comforted by the sight of the princess sheathing her dagger. He was disturbed, however, by the new gleam in her eye. It reminded him of the one Endellion when she caught him in the act. To hide his discomfort, Nokken put on a face as if he were seriously contemplating the woman's proposal. "I don't know, Your Majesty. I'm not sure if you really want to bargain with her. She's terrible at haggling--" Endellion's will crashed into his mind. He moaned aloud and grabbed at his temples. Stay where you are. I'm coming. "It looks as if," He bit out between the waves of force. "I won't have to lead you to her." |

"What's your plan? We need to find him as soon as possible," Endellion released her grip on Sonadora's wrist. She scanned the masses behind the novelist. There was no sign of a white horse or a platinum-blonde youth. If she was within a fifty yard radius, she would have been able to feel him. As it was, she couldn't even feel a tingle. The princess closed her eyes for a second, shutting out the sight and sound of Halia's streets. Nokken, she flung the thought from her mind. -- The puken started at the pressure of the knife in his gut. This wasn't how he imagined it ending up, but mischief was mischief. Night was coming quickly. Halia wasn't exactly the safest place for a Terphic noble to be running around, especially when the nightwalkers traded places with the day folk. "Very good, princess," He smirked. "I might have to oblige you. There is someone who would be rather upset if I got myself killed without her permission." He felt a sensation at the edge of his mind. It was faint enough that he wasn't able to tell what it was. The most likely source would be Endellion. She was probably out of her mind right now, between his disappearance, Juliard's abduction, and that barbarian she picked up. |

Zeljko congratulated himself. He was able to resist the urge to pull the Sentient's spinal cord out through her belly. In his youthful days, he wouldn't have thought twice about such a thing. He indulged himself by backhanding the damned creature until he felt better about the entire situation. The Sentient whimpered pitifully, sand trickling down the corners of her eyes. She knew better than to beg for mercy. She curled around his ankles instead and let the essence of Discordia dust his feet."I'm sure you have a good excuse as to why my pawn is dead," He tossed his head in the direction of the seemingly lifeless body. (In truth, Juliard was only mostly dead. In such a state, the subject is more dead than alive, able to use their senses but unable to control their motor system. Discordics, being more focused on the death of a being than its life, are unable to differentiate Mostly Dead from Completely Dead.) His dark eyes lit up suddenly, struck by a moment of genius. Hot coals, stoked by the fervent love he held for the Great Mother, burned in his eye sockets. The Sentient recoiled as if he would burn her alive with his gaze. Zeljko grinned down at her from the corners of his vision. "You may yet serve the Ulmodir, my love," grin. "You will start spreading the news to the criers under our control that our beloved Masterus Deceptus IV has been murdered by Terphic assassins. We'll spread the news at dawn and," His face split even further with the grin. "by dusk we'll have buried an old king and crowned a new." The Sentient trembled at his feet, invoking Discordia several times over before gathering pile of sand in her hands. She bit her lip and ground her palms into her eyes. To waste such a precious gift from the Great Mother in front of her most favored Childe would be stupid. "O cry Discordia." The Sentient rose, bowed deeply to the Cacophonous Master, and disintegrated from the room. Zeljko beckoned with his mind, summoning the Oracle that gained its status by feeding on the dead man in the corner. "Follow her. Make sure she doesn't leave this city. I want you to personally deliver her into my hands by noon tomorrow." "Yes, mastah." The Oracle melted into the blackness, leaving Zeljko with the dead form of Juliard Barron. He glared at the body for a long while, then contracted into nothingness, leaving the seeming corpse alone again. |

![]() The proprietor of the Stagehand must have been mellow sort of person, as far as Pomellians went. Endellion came by this conclusion based on the amount of drunken poets thrown from the Jester's Bell's stoop in comparison. The poets from the Stagehand were all wearing pants in addition (though whether those were the pants they had started the night off with was up for debate). She hoped the proprietor was as skilled at keeping his beds free of bedbugs as he was at keeping the carousing to a tolerable level. Surely the Muses couldn't be that cruel. "Finally we'll be able to wash off this road-stench," Endellion stretched her arms. Though she insisted that her party bathe and wash frequently, there was just no getting rid of the smell of rusting armor and old, sweaty clothes. The captain started towards the Stagehand when a thought struck her. Nokken had sent her a thought earlier about going out... and he wasn't here now. She froze midstep. "Art damn it all!" She swore. Endellion pivoted on her heel and grabbed Sonadora by the wrist. She dragged the smaller woman through the thinning crowds. "We've got to find my horse." Though the princess hoped she wasn't using too much pressure, her first concern wasn't on Sonadora's comfort. For Nokken to be loose in the streets without her "ability" to keep him in check was just asking for a disaster. --- Nokken's eyes widened in shock. His mistress' youngest sister was here. There was no mistaking that But why? Following his lady, no doubt. Or perhaps... a Discordic spy in the form of Princess Aislinn. She didn't smell like a Discordic though. His nose was definitely not the sharpest in Euphone, but it was decent enough to sniff out those Art-damned monsters. He recovered quickly, covering his surprise with a mask of seduction. This was proving to be an interesting month. The puken followed close behind the princess' little band of protectors. Close enough to be uncomfortable, far enough that he would be able to dodge if they made a sudden swing. He started whistling an arrangement of the Terphic anthem, thumbs jammed into his belt. (( Happy [belated] birthday, Lycain-momma. I got to a little over 10k. At the rate I was going, I wouldn't have been able to finish by the 30th >w< )) |
