Handling a huge number of text files in XP? Go to post 3 Computers & Technology Tue Oct 07, 2008 3:29 pm
you can search as small as 1 kb. if it tries changing it to a 10 change it back and it should stay.

another option is to search all files below 10kb (if you cant do 1kb) and then viewing details sorted by size. this should allow you to use shift to select the smaller ones.

if you find another way to reduce the lag please tell me because i have a very similar problem except quite a bit bigger. (1 folder with 10k plus folders in it and 500k plus files in it equaling close to 12gigs iirc)

EDIT: im currently checking to see if turning off indexing on that folder helps the access times.

also im still on sp2 so theres a small chance that sp3 will not let you search below 10kb
Could you use a full TB? Go to post 38 C&T Tech-Talk Tue Oct 07, 2008 2:43 pm
ehh i could do it. im always finding myself deleting stuff because of the lack of space. ive currently only got 250 gigs tho.

my set up

  • partition 1 500 gb for windows
    • lots of iso's......lots of those.
a couple torrents of some shows like stargate and the star trek shows (thats a ton right there)

  • partition 2 100 gb for linux
  • partition 3 100 gb for linux
  • partition 4 300 gb for extra stuff

my battery is dieing. ill come back later and edit. stupid me forgot my power cord.
Limited User Account Conundrum Go to post 2 Computers & Technology Mon Oct 06, 2008 11:35 pm
try typeing "control userpasswords2" into the run box and double-clicking there name and changing them to a power user or a standard user there. not sure if that will still break there login or not tho.

here is another possible workaround. a bit more convulted but makes it where they cant get the admin password without some digging

damn am i doing poorly today. feel free to hit me over the head for not seeing that in your first post redface redface

according to this

How to Flush DNS in Mac OSX

In Mac OSX Leopard, you can use the command dnscacheutil -flushcache to flush the DNS resolver cache:

bash-2.05a$ dnscacheutil -flushcache

In Mac OSX versions 10.5.1 and before, the command lookupd -flushcache performed the same task:

bash-2.05a$ lookupd -flushcache

if that does not make sence sorry but ive only spent about 30 mins on a mac in my life.

oops. sorry about that. been awhile since i came around here to help.

assuming xp.
click the following. start > all programs > accessories > command prompt.
that should pop up a dos style box. type "ipconfig /flushdns" without the quotes and hit enter.

hopefully that should help.

no what i am saying is to get a separate copy of firefox 2. the portable version does not do anything to your already installed version. (if you still use firefox 2 then ignore this step.)

then get unplug for the portable copy of ff.

dont go uninstalling your current copy of ff.
