It is conceptually wrong.
The question isn't about whether or not sex before marriage is wrong or right - it's about whether or not the father of the girl has the right to, effectively, force his daughter into that viewpoint.

This.
It also implies that a girl's sexuality is something that her father should own and control.

The Cheshire Effect
Observe this thread, and listen to the Sweeney Todd soundtrack for big lulz.

Omnomnom, meat pies. ninja

3 million is a lot of money, but I also have to wonder if you'd have to eat -everything-, like someone else said.
censoring creativity Go to post 41 Extended Discussion Sat Jul 25, 2009 7:16 am
If one started censoring something because it might hurt someone . . . . There is no end to it. Fahrenheight 451, anyone?
It's depressing. Especially a lyric like that that's very tame. I've seen plenty of subtler lyrics make it past the censors, lyrics that are WAY dirtier than that, but not as obvious . . . .
Homophobes - your interpretations Go to post 36 Extended Discussion Sat Jul 25, 2009 6:43 am
I think radical homophobes are uncomfortable with their own sexuality. Such bullshit. I'm to the point where I just laugh hysterically and walk away, if I find out someone is a homophobe. Probably not the best reaction, but there ya go. confused

I don't see any real problem with it. neutral
It's the girl that's promising it.
If she doesn't want to, she doesn't have to.

Is it really our business?

Girl: 'You know, Daddy, I DON'T think I wanna promise to be a virgin.'
Dad: 'Ohmygod, what's going on?! ARE YOU HAVING SEX?'

I dunno if she can really say no to it. Although, my main problem with it is that it makes a girl's sexuality seem like something her father owns. Which is creepy, a bit perverted, and just wrong/stupid on several levels.
But, that's just me.
Knowing People Well Go to post 15 Extended Discussion Fri Jul 24, 2009 7:41 am
Sorry about the topic name, wasn't quite sure how to put it . . . .

So, I was thinking. In the ED, many serious things are discussed, and for the regulars, you end up knowing people's views on very important subjects, and sometimes you even know random, very personal tidbits about them that you certainly wouldn't know otherwise, even though you may not have said a word to them, personally.
There are even some ED-ers that I'm not too keen on, but that I know all kinds of random s**t about. If you read some of my other ED posts, you would know my sexuality, religious preference, political preference, and certain disorders I might have, among other things. Yet, you probably haven't speaken to me much if at all.

How many personal things about a person do you have to know before you consider yourself to know the person well? How much do you need other people to know about you, before you consider them to have known you well? It it about key facts about yourself, like the above, or do you just have to have a proper conversation with them? On a similar note, do you think you can know anyone well, online, or on a forum like Gaia?

I don't know why I was thinking about this, but I was thinking about how some ED-ers, self included, seem to post all kinds of very personal facts that wouldn't come out right away in normal conversation. So, I'm curious what you think about it 3nodding

Oh, what? It has to be something bigger?

I hear that you can live without your gallbladder, then.
