I found this book hilarious. I love Junior's out look on life (and the rules of fisticuffs). The drawings were a perfect fit for the novel. I wanted to read other novels by the author, however I heard they were all very much the same.

Dragon 942 Jessalina Cuttlefishious I hated the first Maximum Ride book as I was reading it because it was terrible. The writing style was about as simplistic as you could get, but not simplified for effect - it seemed to be simple out of laziness or stupidity. There was no description at all, just events flashing past as quickly as they could. I hated all of the characters. They were about as flat, irritating and whiny as the writer could get away with. Nobody had a unique voice, save the stereotypical little girl who I wanted to strangle after a couple of pages. Mostly I hated it because it talked down to the reader. Chapters were about three pages long, as if I couldn't be trusted to have the attention span for longer. I'd picked it up because I was interested with the idea, but any of the technical science, or actually, any explanation at all as to how it worked was never mentioned. If I was about six, with ADD, and unable to notice anything more on a page than "LOOK WINGS FIGHT FARTS FIGHT FARTS JUNK FOOD" then I suspect I would've enjoyed it. Otherwise, it was horrible and has attached "hack" to James Patterson's name forever. I respect the fact that you don't like Maximum Ride, however all of James Patterson's novels have chapters that are 3 pages longs. So it has nothing to do with him thinking his audience has short attention spans. It's just his style of writing. (By the way I also wanted to strangle the six year old.) Personally, the pace of a book is sometimes what gets to me. Things like Memoirs of a Geisha and The Looking Glass Wars, I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere when I was reading them. Books with too much description about things that may or may not be important, also completely turn me off. And I hate when a strong main character becomes weak because they fall in love. Yeah, Maximum Ride got on my nerves, but I just can't stop reading. Help. Please. And I think Angel rocks! She's the best character! Granted I only think that because she's so deliciously evil. Villians rule. What do you mean they become weak? Do they stop fighting because they're afriad they'll drag the ones they love into it or what? I mean when a character changes completely because they've fallen in love. A main character who was able to do whatever they wanted on their own before, now needs help because they're in love. It has nothing to do with dragging the ones they love in to their problems. |

I like happy endings at the end of series, or one-shot novels. I don't mind bittersweet, ones that make you think about what happened and how it happened. But I hate open ended endings. It makes me feel like I've wasted time on something that I wouldn't get a conclusion to. Especially when there's not going to be a sequel. I don't understand, why people likes those.

I bought the book for my brother, it was the only book he's ever wanted so I couldn't help myself. We had a good time going through the book.

I've been debating whether or not I want to read this book. It seems so odd, I'm not sure if I'll like it.

I just recently reread the whole series. And well, I don't get something. People complained that they didn't know Nudge was black until the second book. But after I reread the books, I realized something. She says her real name within the first 60 pages of the first book. I'm sorry but Monique? Am I really the only one that got the hint there? What kind of person do you picture with that name? To me it's not going to be a white girl that for sure. (I don't mean to sound racist or anything, but come on now!)
Also, with the whole global warming thing, I kind of think it was hinted at with the first three books. I don't know if James Patterson had planned that. But at times it seemed that Max did mention things that where connected to global warming (however right not I can't really think of any). And don't these kids ever age? Is Angel really the only one in eight months whose no longer the same age (which she claims) she was at the beginning of the first book? |
