Which books do you just hate with a passion? Go to post 738 Books Tue Dec 18, 2007 11:43 pm
It almost makes me sad that there are so many people who don't like To Kill a Mockingbird. I loved that book since the time I was 13 and I still haven't found anyone my age who actually likes that book. Also the Bible? Ok, so I understand that people don't believe the message many of the books in it sends. But if your reading a book for fun, (like any other book) it'll go against some of your beliefs. I'm not religious or anything, but I've read parts of the bible, for the stories, not to learn how to live my life.

I can't say that there is a book I hate. (Well I've never really read many books I didn't like.) But I don't tend to read things that have to do with high school drama or teen angst. There's really no need for me to read things like that if I do go to high school and there is plenty of drama in school, I don't need to read about it, thank you very much.

Edit:
OH! I lied. And those dairies written by "Anonymous" like Annie's Baby. I mean. WHAT THE HELL? I tried a few of these books and I couldn't stand them. Those girls were stupid. They make me wonder "Are girls really this ignorant? Did they learn nothing in middle school or high school?" Ok I understand that people make mistakes. Everyone does that, but I don't know, these books made me angry and few books actually do. My friend was reading one at one point and tried to tell me it was a good book. After reading the back of the book I looked at her and said, "No thank you, I don't want to read a book about a girl who can't say no to having sex, yet can't use a condom. She was asking to get STDs."

I love this series, I can't figure out which character is my favorite, Iggy or Nudge (poor Nudge doesn't seem to have many fans, I love her anyway). I never liked Angel though. I hated her actually, until I finished the first book for the second time (earlier today) and now I just don't like her.

I didn't like the 3rd book though, I'm hoping the 4th one will be better.

I have a few, but the ones that stick out right now are Ella Enchanted, and the Stavaganza Series.
`~writing and pet peeves.// Go to post 9 Books Sat Nov 24, 2007 8:19 pm
I could never write in a book. Thats why I rarely get used books, because sometimes (not often) things written in them. If I can't stand to read a book, I don't, I give it away. But if It's for school, I'll read it as it's assigned, no need to do more than I have to.

I really don't mind if people don't read a book because it has many fans. I'm like that at times. Take Twilight for example, There's a number of reasons I'm not reading it (the main one because I don't like reading about vampires and it really isn't my type of book). In time I would have gotten the book myself to read it. However so many people seem to have read that book, there's so many opinions on it. I have a lot of friends telling me, "oh this book is terrible" or "I love this book," so now I've heard so many things about the book both good and bad, and I really don't want to read it now.

My pet peeves are when: people dog-ear books, I'm a person who always losses my page and my bookmarks are always falling out. But I can't bring myself to dog-ear it; when people bend back the spins of paperbacks.
Has anyone read anything outside the young adult section? Go to post 108 Books Sat Nov 24, 2007 7:34 pm
A lot of my books, which are fantasy and s-f, I get in the fantasy/s-f section in books stores, and when picking out a new series for me to read, I tend to just look around (I love some of the art work for fantasy novels, and sometimes chose my books that way), and pick which ever seems (and sometimes looks) more interesting.

For just Fiction in general, I don't think I've been outside the YA section (unless I can't find the YA section, which happens sometimes, when the local book stores change things around on me, or if I'm visiting a new place). And I will wander into the romance section, if there is a book I'm looking for.

I will go into the children section all together, because really, there are some novels that shouldn't even be in the YA section let alone the children section (which has happened to me before). I remember looking for a book (I can't remember which), and it was a little... inappropriate (for lack of a better work), I had already read it, and had taken it out the library, but I wanted a copy. Well first I checked the YA section, than the Fiction section, come to turn out it was in the children's section.
