Ban the R-word? Go to post 121 Extended Discussion Wed Apr 22, 2009 4:05 am
Ban "retard"? People get offended way to easy, and mind you it's people who aren't mentally retarded that get offended by that word. People need to look at it the way Carlos Mencia looks at it. Because there is a difference between a person acting retarded and a person being mentally retarded.

Ya that is so true. My mom was considered "hot" but now she is overweight and everything so the only beauty that lasts is inside. Outside is just temporary.

Being overweight doesn't make a person ugly. My mother is also overweight but she still looks good. No one would ever guess that she has a nineteen year old. She looks like she's 25 or something (people think we're sisters). Sure she was never really hot to begin with, but she still looks good.

No I am just saying that you won't always look like that and you should be looking for that "hot" factor on the inside not the outside.

That's true, but some people actually do keep their looks until they get really, really old. I know a woman who's in her fifties, and she's doesn't have one wrinkle on her face. It's called aging gracefully. So saying that "hotness" or a persons looks don't last, it's actually a lie. It's to make people feel better.

Self Diagnosis Go to post 21 Sociology and Psychology Wed Apr 22, 2009 3:53 am
I'm not quite sure about doctors anymore. I went in to see my doctor about anxiety, and he said it had something to do with my heart... Um, no I was scared shitless, I've been stressed lately, I haven't been able to sleep, oh wait what does that sound like anxiety maybe? That was why my heart was pounding, not because I have high blood pressure. Panic attacks really aren't easy to explain. So thanks to my useless doctor, I have yet to get any help. Thanks Doc, you were a real help. And as it turns out I do NOT have high blood pressure, who would have thought it?

I have yet to figure out how doctors can figure things like OCD and the miner ones (what ever they're called). I guess there's actually a diagnosis, for the opposite of that. I personally think that's ridiculous (both of them).
when do you stop being a kid and start being an adult Go to post 48 Sociology and Psychology Wed Apr 22, 2009 3:37 am
I say when you move out of you're parents house, is when a person becomes an adult. My mother says it's when a person is sexually active that they are no longer children (but that doesn't make them adult either), and I have to say I agree with that, on some level.

It's hard to give advice when I've never cut myself before. (I'm the kind of person who prefers mental pain, I'm a baby when it comes to physical pain.)

If you're able to talk to you're parents, you should do that. And see a doctor if you can, hopefully they should be helpful. Also, try not to be alone whenever possible, try to keep you're mind off of what's bothering you.
Hey you American, go learn some spanish. Go to post 582 Extended Discussion Wed Apr 22, 2009 3:20 am
I would be offended (but I rarely ever do), and I know two languages. I hate it, HATE it, when I'm at work and people my age can't speak English. I mean come on! I pretend I don't know Spanish at work just so I don't have to do it. It's ok for the old people though, I'll speak Spanish to them (because it's harder for adults to learn a different language than children). Also, many Hispanics will laugh at other peoples accents (usually behind their backs), because no matter how fluent a person can be in Spanish, we can somehow tell that it wasn't you're first language, at least is seems that way to me. Also I think people should learn how to speak the language they know first (because it seems like everyone only talks in slang) before attempting another.

True, they do work to prevent it.
It's just that it's more important than 14 year olds on cellphones surprised

sweatdrop I was just trying to make a point with that one. And people will probably be more freaked about not being able to use the internet or their cell phones.

Go 19 years without a single date. THEN you can call yourself 'Stuck'. stare

Haha, I have to agree with that one. Though I have to say I somewhat love the singleness.

Anyway.
Maybe you should stop looking, or ask someone you know to hook you up. And given everyone a fair chance, don't judge too quickly because you might luck out.

Well ok, say we know that the power grid will fail in half of New York state (very unlikely). What are you going to do? That's millions of people without power - might lose heat, water, their fridge...
What if a large chunk of the power grid is damaged and has to be replaced? You're talking about weeks without electricity to many people, including those dying in hospitals.
Having a loss of communication would cripple a lot of business and things people rely on.

That's obviously an extreme situation, but you do need to worry about the power grid and solar activity. It's like a gigantic antenna, and it picks up all sorts of stuff from space. You can damage it pretty easily with the right mix of things.

Ah, see there we go. I guess that true, but the article also said that "power grid operators could minimize the damage if they had enough of a warning" (<-from the article). Since scientist are getting pretty good at predicting the solar flares and what not, hopefully if it is the worst case, it won't be that bad.
