Utah QB Alex Smith agreed to terms yesterday on a 6-year, $57 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Smith was the first pick in the draft, and the 49ers will be looking to him to turn around a team that has been less than great on the field of late.
Only two other first-round picks have signed or agreed to terms yet. It's that time of year folks! Who'll be the holdout(s) this year? 3nodding

Morning, all! xd While I'm not sure who will make the playoffs this year in the NFL, I do feel that Pittsburgh will not. They had a relatively weak schedule last year, but since they did so well, their schedule this year is a much tougher one. Add to that the fact that Baltimore has beefed up their roster since last season (thereby making two divisional games a lot tougher), and the Steelers' hopes of making the postseason dwindle even further. This forecast actually comes from my speaking to a big Steelers fan, too -- one who is worried when they look at what is yet to come for their beloved Pittsburgh squad. sad |

Good afternoon, all! whee With August just around the corner, the divisional races in baseball will be getting more and more frenzied. Some teams, like the Washington Nationals, have already made a few moves to try and improve their roster for the run to the post-season. Any thoughts on who might get whom and who should or should not be making trades at this time? 3nodding |

Woo! The local baseball nine, the Washington Nationals, enter the second half of the '05 campaign in first place in the NL East. They even have made a couple of moves, acquiring Preston Wilson (from Colorado) and Mike Stanton (dropped by the hated Yankees). Stanton goes to the bullpen, while they are hoping Wilson can help them score some more runs. The Nats have had good pitching, but they need to put some runs on the board to stay atop the East. This ought to be an interesting trek to Fall! 3nodding |

Woo! The NHL players and owners reached a deal that virtually ensures that they'll be back on the ice come Fall! Yeah! I can't wait to see some good, old, grind-it-out hockey again! whee *pours herself an OJ before leaving* |
