Account was banned because of this stupid glitch Go to post 72 Questions & Assistance Thu Jul 17, 2008 1:53 am
Roachy
You won't be the only one who gets banned. I'm pretty sure i will.
I got like a gazzillion bugs and flowers, before i knew about the glitch exploitation thing i changed it all into ink and bought about 5 dyes & traded some bugs to my mule. But ... once i found out i traded it all back, nothing got sold ofcourse it's still all in my account and hasn't been touched since. But i just know they don't give a shyt, they'll ban me anyway. My Trades & MP are down, i can't use either. crying

Roachy, I didn't buy millions of anything...just enough to make body dyes for myself, my daughter, and a friend I haven't spoken to in awhile who loves pink.

From the sound of things though, even though I blew almost half of my gold, and therefore definitely didn't profit (mainly because I bought for reasonable prices, not the super-low), I'll probably get banned too. My marketplace selling has already been disabled, and if it stays that way, this account is basically useless anyway.

Since I didn't have millions to start with, and only have about 161k now, it won't absolutely kill me to start over. It would just be a shame to lose this account because it's the one under my usual internet pseudonym.

Oh well...I guess I'll enjoy the Darth Maul wannabe look while it lasts, and start over. sad

I wonder how long it takes to be able to use one's old username again? Maybe the thing to do is go out with some dignity and delete my account before any banning happens, if I'll at least be able to re-use my username.

Do any of you, any of you at all have any idea how much work is actually involved in computer programming? Obviously not, because if any of you had a clue, you'd know that (A) Gaia Staff can't drop everything else to work on this because not all of Gaia Staff are knowledgeable in computer programming and (2) A site as large as Gaia has A LOT of programming, and a large chance for errors to occur. Also (C) I see people telling Gaia to take the site down again for a day or two to fix this stuff. YEAH RIGHT, like that would really fly with you people.

As a webmaster, I find this particular brand of dismissive attitude disgusting.

We get paid to work.

If we don't work, we don't get paid.

If we build something, and it doesn't work, or works incorrectly, it's not the users' fault, it's ours.

Banning people over this is the equivalent of me wiping out a random proportion of my users/students for posting photos in their signature lines because I forgot to allow html="0".

Please don't patronize IT professionals to get your point across. If we're incapable of perfoming a task properly, then we shouldn't be doing it. It's very unprofessional to punish users who didn't intentionally exploit the glitch. Aside of unprofessional, it's just plain unfair.

End of story.

They did. It was at the bottom of the announcment about the fish.

Here is the announcment:

Announcment

I wish they would timestamp their edits in their announcements - that part at the bottom was not there in the original release of the announcements - that bit was added shortly after (and by shortly, I think within a half hour of the orginal post time). I only know this because I saw the announcement at a different time than a friend of mine, and I had to tell her about the update, since she saw it immediately when it popped up the first time - before the edit occurred. It did not pop up for her a second time after the edit.

Point being, those who are banned or diabled due to activity before the announcment (or edit) will most likely get their account back and the items/gold rolled back to before the glitch. Those who kept activity after the edit will be banned.

The problem I have with all this is that many of us had ink in our account before all this, bought more before we knew about the glitch, or before it was confirmed that inks were affected (a site-traded and daily chance item, rather than just bugs, which are a direct game item), and sold inks in amounts that were already in our inventory before the glitch. Just because we sold inks after we bought more doesn't mean that we were intentionally selling glitched inks. Some of us just wanted to dump our stock before the price went down permanently.

So rolling back our accounts is a much better option than banning or possibly permanent trade banning. Trade bans could take years to get through investigating every affected user.

I'm not even sure if banning people who received the millions of game items is such a great idea, considering it was a technical error that anyone could have thought was some kind of a daily chance bonus.

The whole situation just sucks. I think they should just correct the item count of the people who got the glitch, and just leave things be. I wasn't "lucky" enough to get it, but I can see in the greater number of people wearing the fabulous body dyes, how good this accident actually was for the economy and the morale.

I mean...granted, it's kind of a bad thing that happened, but dang it did so much good. It gage body dyes to people for whom it would have previously been impossible, or taken so long that it would be discouraging.

Look at all the purple people. It's just so cute! 4laugh
MY MULE GOT BANNED BECAUSE I BOUGHT INK!!! Go to post 84 Questions & Assistance Thu Jul 17, 2008 12:14 am
I noticed something was wrong after I had already bought alot of ink, but not in insane numbers. The thing is, I got them to make body dyes for myself and my daughter, and didn't sell but a few. I obviously didn't profit from it as before the glitch, I was at almost 300k, and now I'm at around 160k.

So I'll be happy as anyone if they roll my account back. I spend half my gold buying inks to make body dyes and tattoos. I just don't want to be completely banned.

...although, ever since the 2% fee, I've been wary of Gaia. I used to spend real $ here, but I stopped after that. If I and others who did legitimate buys get banned, then well, this would explain why I stopped spending money here. You can be a contributing member for months or years, and it doesn't matter how much you gave, you're still toast for things that aren't your fault or blamed for playing the "game" exactly as we're told to: buy low, sell high.

If they don't ban us for this then maybe, just maybe it'll restore some of the faith I had in this site being at least somewhat fair. If they suspend our trades forever though, that would be as good as a ban. It would make my account useless for anything except a place holder for my pseudonym. sad

I just wanted to thank Noraboo for the answer to the glitch concerns in Q&A. Many of us were quite worried.

miss jackie ohh
When the horns came out before they were supposed to...due to a GLITCH in the Faunzy flute.
There was NO Offical Announcment about any of it.
IF anyone was banned...I don't know....but the horns stayed in the Marketplace.
The flutes were jack'd up for days afterward and still NO announcement was ever made.

I read some threads about people not being able to go to the Marketplace and having excess trash in their inventories, but not ink.
I stumbled across this thread, I had no idea there was an 'ink issue'.

That ink was affected is totally weird since it's not a directly granted game item, unless you count DC. Something has to be traded for it...and well, maybe it was. Maybe it's not really an inks issue, but a bugs issue, which is why it may be very difficult to solve.

...and this is off topic, but I had to say, those are the cutest little dogs evarr! OMG!

I'm cool with "giving back"...in fact I was probably going to give a bunch of my inks to friends once I had bought the stuff I wanted. I only bought stuff with a mind to completing my body dye quest. Like I said before, I think this glitch could be beneficial and start some economic stimulus. It might me just me, but I kinda think that the body dyes should be more of an everyday item anyway, not something you have to save forever for.

Amen to that. I was upset by the amount of ink and gold it took to get them, and the fact that ink prices shot up way beyond what was even reasonable. So even if it means I might kind of lose some gold on my pre-glitch and oblivious-to-glitch purchases, I'll be happy to see more people sporting body dyes.

I'm hoping that they come up with a solution that allows people to at least keep dyes that they bought during this time.
Er, we won't get banned will we????? :S Go to post 82 Questions & Assistance Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:10 pm
Ya know, I can't help thinking...Since I know now, but I didn't before, that this is all some kind of fluke, maybe those of us who got something good from it, should maybe...I don't know...give something back.

Since we won't get banned because we didn't exploit the glitch, but just got some fabulous deals, perhaps we can make more contest threads and start giving away body dyes or lots of 500 inks as prizes, when the bank is working again, if they don't do a rollback. When this is all over, we might not see such great prices again, and it would be a shame to waste the opportunity.

Before all this started, body dyes were inaccessible to way too many Gaians. Maybe in the server's strange way, this is a sign from old Shub that we should spread the wealth. (I don't know how many of you oldbies out there are actually internet oldbies, but back in the days when t-rex's used to roam the earth, we used to blame chaotic glitches on Lovecraftian entities...)
User not permitted error in MP Go to post 21 Questions & Assistance Tue Jul 15, 2008 4:44 pm
I don't know if something fishy is going on, or if it's just a glitch.

I have noticed that alot of very rich users are all at once dumping ink on the market at very low prices. Maybe it's a guild scheme and not related to the mp user error glitch?

Yamaguchi, you won't get banned for buying or selling something cheap...only for knowingly selling/buying/traded with botted gold or items.

Thank you Kixxi smile

It's good to know that I won't have to worry about getting banned. I myself didn't catch any of the super-low prices anyway. I was just worried in case people could get banned for proliferated botted items, like a chain reaction or something. I have no idea if four transactions ago, someone did something shady with an item.
