Glitched Game Items & What to Do with Them Go to post 2544 Site Feedback Sun Jul 20, 2008 1:21 am
I'm one of those who probably bought glitched inks. I have no idea how many, if any were actually glitched, because I can't access my store logs, but it was all done in marketplace.

From what I bought, I sold a few before I knew what was really going on, and that inks would be affected (since they're also frequent DC and user hoarded items) and I made a black body dye, and might have bought a couple of things, but I definitely didn't profit at all. I have about half of the gold that I started with before all this mess.

As I look into my inventory today, I see that all of my game items have been removed. Though I consider it a small price to pay, if I'm going to lose my game items and the body dye then I'd like my gold back if it's possible. If it's not possible, I don't mind a "fresh start", but it is a bit of a downer. I won't cry, but my "inner princess" will. xp

I didn't intend to cheat in any way, and was one of the first people to actively participate in topics on this matter. So please please let us know the time frame for getting our trades and selling privileges restored.

Edit: Dangit, I just figured out this new inventory tab thing. All the game items are still there.

Okay, I've got:

20017 pink inks that are probably mostly glitched, but weren't less than 1g each, so I thought the seller might be a hoarder until they did it again.
694 green inks that may or may not be...reasonable bargain.
167 black inks that might be, but I'm not too sure since I got them at a bargain, but not that great a bargain.
...and now that I think about it, I forgot if I made a black body dye or bought one. Everything was so confused that day.
Then there's 105 yellow inks, 482 red inks, and 221 blue inks, some may or may not be glitched.
Then there's 5929 crumpled paper bags. No idea what proportion is what, because they were all reasonable, and not ridiculously low.

I really have no idea what is what. I bought a mixture of game items that day, but nothing too ridicuous except that pink ink that I snapped up without thinking.

I also bought some red tattoos later, before I knew the inks were for sure, among the corrupted.

Anyway, I've reported as best as I can.
Unfairly Banning MANY users for unknowingly buying bad inks! Go to post 149 Site Feedback Thu Jul 17, 2008 11:11 pm
Well...after reading the journal posts, I'm a little less worried about being banned than I was. Now I'm just afraid to take off my black body dye for fear of losing it. LOL!

Still, I agree with Wes that it's highly unfair to punish users for a glitch. Even if they can stretch their ethics around that big one, it's still totally unfair to punish those who bought items legitimately through marketplace. It's not even like a trade where the items would go to a specific individual. It's like someone throwing [virtual] money in the air, and whoever catches it is lucky.

if gaia listened to this post there would be a lot of happy users 3nodding

Indeed. It all seems so simple to do its strange to me that they haven't yet.

They actually did listen, and are trying to correct some of the problems. I noticed that re-captcha has been installed for new users, so that's not perfect, but it's a step in the right direction.

...and about the mp/trade and full bans, they said they wouldn't go after those who bought second hand glitched items, just those who originally got them and sold them. However, that's *seeming* not to be the case.

I don't really know who to believe about that. I've been hollering about this since days ago when I first noticed the prices dropping, so I figure if anyone was going to get banned for buying second hand glitched items, and selling a very very few before it was confirmed that inks were affected, it would be me...and yet I'm here. My selling and trades are disabled, but I haven't been banned outright...at least not yet.

There have been answers from mods and admins about this in other threads though.

Still got people saying they bought Ink. Even with the Announcement up.
Still got people selling items in their inventory that they know is glitch'd

I hope this is sorted out. Because I am sure there are far more guilty people than innocent

That's part of the disturbing bit about this too. Buyers who just thought they were getting a good deal, or thought that the problem was only with fish items, are getting the hammer, while purposeful glitch exploiters are still out there making a killing...and bragging about it. sad

For the record, nobody ever gets banned for legitimate vend transactions. If your side of the trade looks normal and you do not share an IP or anything with the person exploiting the glitch (or botting or whatever), there's no reason to worry about a ban.

People who get banned for "unknowingly buying botted gold" are, well, creatively embroidering their situations nearly every single time. "Oh, I put up a flower in the vend and someone bought it for 1,000,000. Their name was 'asjfffs' but they're totally legitimate, I'm sure! I don't understand why I was banned!!"

Those of you who honestly just thought it was an innocent mistake are not going to get in trouble for exploitation, you bought those items fair and square. It's the people reproducing the glitch to get tons and tons of ink who should be concerned.

Look, if it was just one or even just a few complaints, I probably wouldn't be alarmed. I'm one of the people who bought items for a fair price...what was a reasonable to low price before the glitch, not 20000 inks for 200g or something. We're talking 100-250g each for black inks...stuff like that. I certainly haven't profited from it since about half the gold I had before all this is gone. So I wasn't turning over fast to make quick gold.

What worries me is that so many people are coming back to say they've lost their accounts. Most people won't bother to post about it, so I know it's alot more than who's posting about it.

...and some of them are people who weren't affected by the glitch, but just bought glitched items (unknowingly) and sold some before they knew for certain that their category of items was affected. Most were just thankful for their good luck, and made body dyes, and sold their extras.

If I get banned, you'll know for sure that someone can get banned for buying glitched inks and not even making a profit. My mp selling ability has already been turned off.

Although I can understand some skepticism, I have a tendency to believe the complainers because of the sheer numbers, and because I remember some of them as good hard-core vendors who I bought from regularly, and came to trust in time. One of the ones who actually did get glitched items, admitted that he did, but he reacted before thinking, and pm'ed a mod immediately when he calmed down and realized he might have screwed up. It shouldn't be a bannable offense to get momentarily over-excited, especially if he realized his mistake and confessed.

That I'm still here (and have logged in and out a couple of times) gives me some hope, but I'm still nervous.

Yeah, I tried it too, and it didn't work. So I guess all there is to do is wait and...pray?

Nope. No account suicide. Too many systems rely on the user data that our accounts hold. Deleting that data would cause those systems to break, potentially taking the whole site with them.

Well that sucks.

A person can't even volunteer to help correct the situation by sacrificing their virtual self?

No seppuku in Gaia?

This glitch thing had gotten out of hand, and so I'm thinking that a good solution for those of us who can stomach it, would be to voluntarily delete our accounts. If we can't trade, gift, or sell in marketplace, then the account is just a place holder for a username.

So my question is how long after deleting my account, would I have to wait before I could re-use the same username? Would it be gone forever, or is there a waiting period, or would it be available immediately?
