It should,
if not we can get some screen caps of
your control panel and work from there.

Having all the freeware in the world is great and what not,
but you just can't beat a full fledged commercial antivirus.

Personnally I'd recomend NOD32 or McAfee.
Symantec does have one good scanner but
it's for corparations and is thus, far too expensive.

Control Panel (Category view)>>

Security Center >>
On the left side there should be a table labeled resources,
at the bottom of that list is "change the way security center alerts me".

Click that,
kill Windows's ability to be a dumbshit:

You know you're a nerd when... Go to post 118 C&T Tech-Talk Thu May 10, 2007 8:43 am

You know all of the quotes in Rydian's signature.
When you run Fluxbox on Windows.
You've added the Metasploit framework to your router.
You spend your free time testing CMS's
Your desk is made out of old cases
Most of the computer parts you own are older than you are
You create your own .mod music just to relive the good old days.
You then rename the *.mod to mod.*
You have sat in Starbucks waiting for someone with a laptop to sign into their bank.

I've been scene for about 3 years and on the darker sides of the interbutts.
(For example the *Chans)
I've had a grand total of 4 full scale attacks carried out against me.
(Router exploitation, social engineering of my family, and a little more...)
I've had one DoS attack succesfully carried out against me.
(An op from an IRC channel getting his his channel back, I nuked him and his bot to take the channel over...)
and 2, that I know of, failed DoS attacks

Not neccesarily a veteran, but I seem to have a habit of pissing people off.

Can browser highjackers get your personal info/accounts/passwords?
No, they would need to get something onto your system first before they could have a chance at getting your info. Meaning that you would have to download something, although if you aren't careful it's possible to trick you into doing that.

The scans in the sticky should let you know if you have anything like that on your system, and help you remove it.

You know that's about as true as saying President Bush is mexican.
If they want your info, they'll get it. The simple fact that you have
that bar means you were/are an easy target.
If you know enough not to download things that websites might try to force on you, or accept email attachments from strangers, and you also know how to not be the victim of phishing or scamming then your personal information is relatively safe.

Hackers need more than pure determination to get what they want from people, they need people to make mistakes that allow them to do what they do.

Not necessarily there's some nifty 0-day exploits floating about.

Windows exploitation through javascript is gaining strength.
Now all one has to do is lure the person to an infected site,
no user consent necessary.

Most anyone who has ever been on a porn site has picked up something.
Hell, your little brother could have gotten every cws from it's conception.
Once you've got one on your computer more will follow, and some will probably not be simple adware.
