This is annoying me.. Go to post 7 Computers & Technology Sat May 12, 2007 2:04 am

Laptop or Desktop?
Assuming Laptop, I'd say it's probably the battery.

Desktop...
There are a few reasons why it might do that.
Do you know whether or not it's set to reboot after a power failure?
You know you're a nerd when... Go to post 118 C&T Tech-Talk Fri May 11, 2007 5:30 am

You know all of the quotes in Rydian's signature.
When you run Fluxbox on Windows.
You've added the Metasploit framework to your router.
You spend your free time testing CMS's
Your desk is made out of old cases
Most of the computer parts you own are older than you are
You create your own .mod music just to relive the good old days.
You then rename the *.mod to mod.*
You have sat in Starbucks waiting for someone with a laptop to sign into their bank.
=3

The last would, I assume, insinuate at you being a criminal rather than a mere geek. Also, since when could Fluxbox be run on Windows? There are a few Windows ports of Blackbox still alive and well, but not Fluxbox itself.

I know... T-T
There exists the various add-ons that can slightly emulate Fluxbox but no true port of it...

Btw, BBLean is nice. =3

Criminal skills follow right behind nerdy power.
You start by building your own wireless adapter driver,
you end up injecting code into other peoples. ;3

(Not necessarily true, but it does give me an interesting thought.
What if rather than waiting for someone to login to something so
you can attempt to fish their packets out of the air with airpcap.
You just patch the cafe's router to make copies of all the packets
and send them either to local networked drive or something along
those lines... )

What is it that compels people to continuously post in a thread that NEEDs to die for the sake of humanity.

Edit:
Bol, Look at the post times.
They're only a couple minutes apart.
Maybe if I had waited 20minutes to post, then... =3

Well that'll do. =3

Wait, that just killed the thread.

The average user wouldn't even have
an inkling of an idea as to how to use
said forensics tools.
To them it is invisible.

As far as I know, none of the most popular Anti-viral proggies have implemented the ability to search streams.

@Bol;
Sorry I assumed a person who started a thread would only do so for the purposes of a discussion.

Which is, yes, exactly what I have done. =3

Using the average user as an example is a straw man. The average user would be hard pressed to find C:WindowsThisIsMalware.exe without two pages of detailed instructions.

I was able to find no hard evidence confirming or denying the existence of ADS scanning in anti-malware utilities. There are several standalone utilities for detecting ADS, such as ADS Spy, and LNS, which should be a part of any geek arseal.

Also, for the love of shotgun-toting kittens, could you drop the 3pt. green text formatting? There is no reason to do that aside from pissing off readers.

Edit: Skoudis and Liston have a good analysis of enterprise anti-spyware suites, including the rather surprising fact that McAfee is the most ADS-aware suite they tested.

-O

McAfee!?
Yes, that is quite shocking.
High marks in all their tests.

Personally I like McAfee and NOD32,
because they are the only av's I've had pickup
morphined files, which gained my respect for both of them.
(Morphine is a pe file encryptor, it's made by the creator the
HackerDefender rootkit.)

Oh, and pissing off readers is what I do, sorry.

Firewall or internet connection problems? Please help! Go to post 4 Computers & Technology Fri May 11, 2007 12:11 am

I'm not any better when it comes to computers, but did you try to google the problem? That almost always helps me.

If don't have something truly useful to say then DO NOT POST.

@OP;
Because FireFox works where other's don't I'm assuming:
1. You are not the only user on that comp
2. You have either a wireless connection or dial-up.
(If wireless, then I might be able to help.)

Are you on a wireless connection?

Get a time machine,
go back a year,
spend the lot of that time
learning to work with php,
css, and html.

Alternatively, you can go to
w3schools.com and get working.
