Your Artistic Standard.... Go to post 15 Art Discussion Thu Mar 06, 2008 5:56 am
I'm currently struggling to improve. I have a day-job as a Graphic Designer, and a side-job with my freelance work, which is cool, but about 32.8% of what I make goes to the state I'm in. gonk

I didn't go to school for it. I started college, but since the one I was going to didn't have any art degrees, and I wasn't willing to move, I dropped out. I got lucky getting the job I'm in now, through my husband. He started work for them as a service tech/programmer. I started as a secretary, but then my boss saw the work I could do, and instead of searching for a different graphical artist I got the position.

I hope to take my freelance career further. I plan on improving, and eventually releasing a game of my own. I have several book ideas too. But we'll see. It's hard to be confident enough to move forward.
Copics: EXPENSIVE! Go to post 24 Art Discussion Thu Mar 06, 2008 5:49 am
You're basically paying for the plastic casing their in the first time you buy them. The refills on ink are really cheap for the amount that's in them. No more expensive then Prismacolor pencils.

I have 56 colors. I don't want to list them all. I started with a basic manga wallet set, then started buying custom sets of 12. Just recently did I buy 10 separate colors because I was looking for something more pastel. They just blend so nicely. I've had many of them for over a year now, and only had to buy one refill (N3 because I use it a lot for shading). My ink refill is lasting me a very long time as well. I've only had to refill the marker once.

They might seem pricey at first, but it's just the initial buy that is because of the plastic casing. The ink itself is cheap.
Coloring with Markers... why is it so difficult?! Go to post 27 Art Discussion Thu Mar 06, 2008 5:40 am
You could also combine mediums if you can't afford smoother markers. I totally understand where you're coming from. I worked with Crayola for a long time. I used to combine cheap water colors, colored pencils, and markers in my pictures. Usually using watercolors for things that need to be light, like skin.

Another cool trick to try is just to keep the skin white, but make solid shadows with the peach. Don't color all the skin, just the shadows. It should make the white look like peach then, even if there isn't any color on it. A little trick of the eyes.

I go to Blick: http://www.dickblick.com/ and Period Style: http://www.marketworks.com/storefrontprofiles/default.aspx?sfid=78416 for my supplies. I really recommend them for the quality and price.

I hope things work out for you. Good luck~ heart

Do you have any examples? Of maybe before your break, and now?
STOP DRAWING THE SAME s**t OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Go to post 64 Art Discussion Wed Mar 05, 2008 6:58 am
The "Popular" section has changed recently too, to just the pictures that get viewed the most instead of pictures that have the most favorites.

But I guess I could be considered one of those artists that draw the same thing. My favorite thing to draw is fantasy women, so I draw fantasy women, and a lot of lesbian couples. I branch out every now and again to draw something different, but then usually go back to what I like. I mean, it's what I like. I'm not popular by any means of the word though. I'd consider myself average.

I do understand what you mean though. The ones that draw fanart, or a popular genre, and do it well, get a lot of views. But seriously, most people don't worry about the popularity contest. Instead they just do what they love. Stop worrying about the other people, and just concentrate on what you want to do. heart
I kind of think all artists are jerks. Go to post 102 Art Discussion Wed Mar 05, 2008 6:44 am
I totally agree. lol I like a lot of different artists, but when you get down to it we're all very picky or just think of ourselves and our goals. Just about every artist I know is like that. Very few I have met that aren't, and I really think they probably are IRL or just think like jerks on the inside.
Three questions about your art Go to post 52 Art Discussion Wed Mar 05, 2008 6:41 am
1) I love Copics, Prismacolor pencils, and CG with Painter and Photoshop the most.
2) It depends on the content, or the piece itself.
3) Both~ heart

Pencil should count. razz There's some great black and white shaded works out there.

Man, it's people like you who assume that artists are here to please and serve you, that piss me off.

The 2nd a**l-like post I've seen from you. You must be one of those misunderstood angry artists. dramallama It doesn't hurt to ask if there is anyone willing to do a drawing for GaiaGold. It's an easy way for artists to make some cash on this site to make their own Avi dreams come true.

For orig poster:
And to get this back on track, I guess there's another forum for request and commissions, but feel free to check my DA for examples, as for price? I'm not sure yet. Probably not much for a bust for a sig. I'd have to think about it and let you know if you decide to contact me.
What is your favorite thing to draw and the most........... Go to post 29 Art Discussion Mon Mar 03, 2008 3:50 am
Fantasy girls are my favorite thing to draw. My fave thing to draw on them? Fantasy parts like animal ears or tails. I think they look so cute like that. xd
What's Your Favorite Medium ? Go to post 40 Art Discussion Mon Mar 03, 2008 3:45 am
I like Copic markers, watercolors, CG with Photoshop and Painter, and Prismacolor pencils. I tend to only with with Copics and CG most of the time though. Each of them I love for the rich colors, cleanliness, and ability to blend.
