"O-Only an hour?" Johan was speechless, and Robert had already driven away. The depths of the musician's mind was reduced to one nagging thought: how in the world was he going to go about making his apartment family-friendly all over again? In his eagerness to help, Johan had forgotten that his own children had moved out quite a while ago and that his apartment had since been rearranged to suit the needs of one man, rather than a father-child family.

"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee..."

Johan closed his eyes, his heart in pain. "I will," he said. He opened his eyes and looked at Robert. He was so proud of him, and many of his other students that he had watched grow up. "You're right, the foster system can do nothing for her right now. I will take her in," the older man offered. "All children need a loving home. And in the meantime, I hope that you will work on this case like you practiced with that real live cannon for 'Overture of 1812' for your senior rehearsal." The former music teacher smiled slightly at this memory.

Johan's face dropped considerably as he listened to Rob - no, Officer - well, Robert. Robert was good. It was respectful of the man young Rob had become, but lacking the title, it still showed their close friendship, kinship almost. Robert was one of Johan's most favored students towards the end of his teaching career.

"Murdered? What sick, twisted job was this?" He took the photos and stared at them closely. "And she says an angel saved her... this is gruesome indeed..." Johan thought for a bit, his eyes glazing over as he zoned out. After a minute, he blinked and took a breath. "There are many translations of the Bible," he said. "And you know that i am deeply religious, Robert. You may think of me as senile for this, but I do not think a man did this to these people. Nor a woman. A creature, I think. An animal or beast of some sort. But I don't know of an animal that resides in the city and kills people as, as, as awful as this. But there are demons and monsters in the Bible."

Johan shook his head. Towards the end of his commentary, his voice began to tremble. He knew Mary, and he knew her parents. They were wonderful, sweet people. "I believe in the Lord, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. I believe he was crucified at the hands of Pontius Pilate, died and was buried, and rose three days later. I believe he ascended to Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father and will come again to judge the living and the dead. And I believe, Robert, that an agent of Satan is to blame for this tragedy."

The last note of the closing hymn warbled through the large stone church as Father Kholer gave the closing rites. Soon, people began to swarm towards the doors, eager to get their chores and tasks done for the day after Mass.

Johan sat at the piano, his head bowed and his hands folded together, resting on his lap. This was the first and only Mass of the day, so he had nothing in particular to do for the rest of the day. Well, he could turn around and watch the people leave. Johan stood up, and walked around to greet people. Towards the back of the pews, he noticed, there was a police officer - Officer Robert, if Johan remembered correctly. No, he always remembered correctly. Rob - No, Officer Robert now, was once one of Johan's students. And a fine percussionist, he remembered fondly.

"Officer Robert," Mr. Grussgot greeted him jovially. "What brings you here in uniform this morning?"

As the morning Austrian sun rose in the sky, the pale light bounced off the waves of the river, and into the windows of the buildings along the banks. This was the best way to wake up, Johan thought. He sat up slowly, and swung his legs over to sit on the edge of his bed. He glanced over his shoulder, and said a small morning prayer for his wife, Ulrike - good morning Lord, good morning Ulrike, good morning all the angels and saints of Heaven, I trust to you that good things happen on Earth today, and that Ulrike is having eternal peace and happiness in your presence.

After his morning prayer was the same routine. Shake off the morning drowsiness, stretch, a short hot shower, get dressed, and then eat breakfast. For Johan, that was typically a single piece of fruit or toast, except on Sunday. Canon law, and tradition in general dictated that one wasn't to eat for a few hours before Communion. But after Sunday Mass, that was an opprotunity to bond with other church-goers over brunch.

Johan glanced at the blue and gilded folder with his musical scores in it. The composition he had created during the night was still fresh in his mind, and there was a half hour yet before Mass began. It wouldn't take long at all to get to church, and there would be plenty of time to note down at least the main melody before Mass began. Yes, that would work...

The massive and ancient brass bells began to ring for the nine o'clock morning Mass.

((There's a second part to this, which will have to wait until tomorrow. But, it doesn't affect the immediate plot, so don't bother waiting for me or anything.))

And the animation is much better, but then again, the movies of most every series have larger budgets and longer schedules than the television episodes.
