Oh gawd, less than adequate hygiene >_<; those complete and total otakus that believe its better to skip showering for a while so as to get more anime and manga into their day as you can do either while eating, working, using the bathroom even, but lordy no if they have to take 10 mins to put the stuff down to clean themselves. At least that about what Otaku means in the Japanese sense, ESPECIALLY if you didn't know that and you've been freely running around calling yourself and Otaku. Most Japanese anime fans wouldn't call themselves one for that exact reason.
If you've been to a con before and paid close attention to the the opening ceremonies or the con books they hand out with your badge they say or it's written, "Hey there's gonna be a lot of people packed together this weekend please shower regularly" in not so many words.
As for growing out of anime, it's not like a old tee thats too small. They've probably dropped their interest in the Japanese culture thinking it would get in the way of "growing up" or "becoming an adult" or "getting a girl/boy friend" it happens, if it's meant for them they'll get back into it, Japan isn't going anywhere just yet.
As for how many friends I have that are into anime lets just say that my first prereg group for AMA had 14 ppl and I'm working on my second group and im at 8 with more to come. And that's just my group. We're meeting up everyone else there.
