Brotherhood is a remake of the first series; it doesn't take place after the movie, it's just... starting over.
Regarding the whole gate thing? I dunno, wasn't really explained. That's just some ending the animators made up. Brotherhood's going to have the actual ending.
Also, don't bump. Calm down, the AMC is not that fast.
