I own two outdated issues of Lala that I bought at a bookstore clearance, but I'm really only a fan of Ouran from that mag. So it probably wouldn't be a good thing for me to collect.

LMFAO.
You're about 2-3 years too late for what was the loudest and the only actually heated period of debate between the fans, I think. The only dissent I've seen against KuroFai since then is usually someone screaming "faichii is prettier!!!!!" in all lowercase, or something. So... I dunno, I don't think the effort of analyzing and stuff was all that necessary. Especially since it's, you know, over. |

A list of other shows you've seen and liked would be helpful. =| Idk what to suggest, otherwise.
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle has loads of fantasy and implied romance. Read it, don't watch it. The manga's much better. |

Depends on which series it is, doesn't it? Some dubs are pretty good, others not so much. Some series have fairly terrible Japanese VAs, or just sound better in English because of where they're set. Baccano's a good example of the latter. Still other series have LOADS of technical dialogue, like Ghost Hound, that's hard to retain as subtitles. I'd probably enjoy a dubbed version of that.

Probably story, but it takes a pretty damn awesome story to keep me watching if the animation's crap, or the art itself is unappealing. I mean, anime's a visual medium, so it should be enjoyable to look at. There've been a few series I've watched or at least looked into based on a pretty screenshot or icon or something as well, but story is still uber important.
So I dunno. |

I prefer Light. I never really "got into" L, as some did. Ah, well.

Pretear is a good magical girl series. No straight up BL, if I remember correctly, but there's a bit of slash potential if you have your goggles on, so to speak. Oddly enough, it has a tinge of darkness in it towards the end, but I would say it's neither super-sweet, nor dark and brooding.
You might like 07-Ghost as well. Very recent, magic and slash are big elements in it, and it's comfortably within your episode range. Much of it is centered around a church, so the atmosphere can be very bright and almost-summery at times, and just as easily things can become quite sinister. It's niiice. Out of all the CLAMP anime out there, the best in terms of slash is X, no question. The show has magic elements, but no 'traditional' magical girls with transformations, and is not too old. But you said you're interested in CLAMP, which implies you already know CLAMP, so you may've seen it already, idk. ;; Annnnd I feel the need to pimp/recommend you play Persona 4 while we're here, derp derp. Yeah. |

Thaatttt's a pretty big spectrum. :0
Perhaps Rental Magica? And definitely Darker Than Black and Baccano, for sure. |
