Lady Hanyo's face fell. A social creature, she enjoyed being with him, and the idea of being alone again wasn't exactly appealing.
"Must you?"
She wanted him to stay, but didn't want to sound desperate by asking him to.
Zach faced Hanyo and said nothing for a moment. Then he held his left hand up and looked at the palm, his way of checking the time, and smiled softly.
"I guess I still have some time left," he said with a nod. "In that case, tell me something about yourself."
...but what about herself?
"What could he want to know? My past? That's not exactly a happy conversation.... Maybe..."
"Well, let's see.... I like music, and art.... and well... I have a son. His name is Kuroshin."
"Oh no, what have I done? He's going to think I'm some scarlet woman or..."
"A son," Zach was intrigued. Did that mean that Hanyo was married? If so, then he might be in trouble. "That's pretty cool. How old is he?"

Lady Hanyo nodded understandingly, but realizing he could not see, she added a vocalized "mmm."
"I'm glad they feel better. It must be dreadful, being unable to see..."
"It's not as bad as one might think," Zach shrugged, causing him to miss a few notes in his song. Getting back on track, he continued speaking. "I can see once in a while, and if I absolutely have to. Of course, forcing myself to see sets back the healing process."
Shaking her head of sorrow, she spoke.
"Well, at least you can play without seeing. Life without music is worse than life without sight, in my opinion."
"It isn't hard to play without seeing," he replied. "It's just knowing where the strings are. But you're right. Music is much more important to me than sight is."
He let out a sigh and finished the song before looking down at the lute.
"At least this isn't permanent, y'know?"
Lady Hanyo glanced around the ballroom, watching balloons slowly drift towards the ground as the helium gradually left them. The only music in the room now was the DJ, still playing soft jazz type background music. Her eyes wandered back to her companion, and she smiled, finding contentment in his company.
For a moment, there was nothing. Just silence between the two of them. Zach wasn't playing his instrument and neither one was talking. It made him realize how alone in the room they were. To break the silence, Zach coughed suddenly and stood up.
"I should probably be going," he said. "I've stayed a bit too long."

Lady Hanyo giggled merrily.
"I think I got the hang of the dancing thing. I practiced."
"Well that's good to hear."
Zach smiled and began to fill the quiet hall with some music from his lute. It wasn't quite as good as the previous night, but it wasn't bad.
She watched him play for a while, enjoying the gentle music. A thought crossed her mind, as her eyes studied his face.
"How are your eyes?"
Zach looked up from his instrument and at Hanyo.
"They're better now than a few nights ago," he said, choosing his words carefully. "After playing here Friday, my eyes hurt a little so I decided to take Saturday to practice a bit more on my own. Of course, now it's gonna take longer to be fully healed..."
