Characters with Roses, long hair, or both? Go to post 43 Anime/Manga/Comics Thu Jun 16, 2005 9:57 pm

In most cases, bishounen (pretty boys), carry the rose as a symbolism of their own beauty.

There are other cases, however, like Tuxedo Mask. He holds a rose as a symbol of his love for Sailor Moon.

Roses are there usually to enhance the beauty, love, or even vanity a character has within them. There are many things that the Rose can symbolise, actually.

But beauty being the most popular creates the abundance of rose weilding bishounen.

At least, that's the best explanation I can give.

I look so hot in your sig.

Let's get busy.

Do they exist? That's what I'd like to know.

No, I believe Escaflowne only consists of the Manga, 26 episodes and Movie.

I don't think they made OVAs for this series.

I have a reason to think that they did.

I'm not saying you don't have a reason to think that.
I'm just saying they do not exist UNLESS they were made very very recently. But I highly doubt that.

Escaflowne from that list.

A 26 Episode series with exceptional animation and music.

The japanese version is a masterpiece. Just don't watch the dub.

Maybe that's why I didn't like it. I only say part of it. Maybe I just saw the movie... It was such a long time ago.

The version shown on North American Television was edited horribly. This included playing scenes in reverse to cover character deaths (because dying is evil) re-written plot so that little children can understand (this series is not made for little children), removal of entire episodes and scenes so that some episodes were fused into one. Clips that you were not supposed to see until episode 22 or 23 are inserted into episode 4 or 5. Then, the show was edited in a way to gear it towards young boys, so the editors tried to throw more emphasis on Van than the true main character (Hitomi), eliminating the entire first episode because she was in it too much and proved boring for little boys.

There was a lot more butchering done to Esca when it was played here, including the destruction of it's award winning soundtrack. Replaced for the most part with music chosen by the dubbing company. (Some tracks remained, but some of the best music was removed). Then of course the entire spoiler with Dilandau was edited to hell... I could go on forever.

In short, the english version was horrid. Anyone who saw the original Japanese version first would understan fully.

It's amazing.
I have the full series of the manga (1-10) and the OVAs. (1-4)

The OVAs are basically just short episodes based on random short stories involved in the manga.

They are fun, but offer no background information on the deeper story in the manga or characters. If you like it, read the manga as a first priority.

Oh yes. Now do me! HAHAHAHA!
