@ Gloss and Curls:

Lol. I remember those times xD. I wonder if the blogspot people even kept my stuff up there...? (since I never go on these days)

@ InstanceOddity:

Really? I started 2003 x3. Never got the hang of (coding) till the beginning of 2005 x).
Wow. Few years (or did you mean more?), then someone wants to hire you o.O? That's like, a fairytale story for most of us xP.

...Featured ...High-priced profile requests ...getting 'hired' ...besides all the great talent and skill that must've come with it, you're one lucky dog ;P.

@ Shangrii-La:

Ahhh
I remember GIMP.
Wonderful, complicated, limited old GIMP xD.
I kinda miss it though ;o.

Lawl. Myself, I didn't know where to start in prices, so I just looked at other people's shops, judged their skill and prices with mine, lowered the prices a bit, and got going ;3.

That's mostly the reason I keep making profiles also. I simply enjoy it~
I know my style too, I'm just experimenting around to see what other things I can do ^^.

Lols at ending~

@ Liixi:
Lol. I've heard most people were on Neopets first xP. What was actually tougher for me was HTML though o.o.
You really should ;D. With your talent and skill like that, you're bound to get somewhere with it~

So you've got a shop. That's splitting to the seams with customers and gawkers at your awesome work. You're getting at least 30 comments a week on how good your profile looks. You've probably even been spotlighted *hinting at a certain Taiwanese graduate >.>*.

But...
When did it all start?
Was it when the community profile spotlight came in, and people started actually thinking of making their own profiles?
Or was it wayy before you got on gaia, and made profiles on myspace/neopets/xanga/whatever?
Did you ever think it would get you this far to where you are today, AND
Do you think you'll ever go further than just making profiles ;o?

For me, I started out coding layouts on blogspot. My first profile was an absolute failure, I had scrollbars overlapping each other, I couldn't change the font color, and wait--what the heck did img mean?
I got my first successful (and decent) profile on blogspot around 8th grade.
I started coding myspace layouts and did requests until 9th grade. Kinda did some xanga coding also, but picked it up and dropped it several times in between.
My first 'good' custom profile I made sometime the end of two school years ago, making it a little over a year. I've been on a roll since then, had done some profiling business on gaia, and will continue to make more profiles until I quit at a reasonable age of 43. Jk--I have no idea when I'd quit o.o. Kinda scares me, lol.
I made up my mind about a year ago that I'll pursue a career in profiling (woah, how did that get there? Must've been too tired... went to bed at 3 AM. I meant web design ^^). Of course, I'll have a main job (teaching--college/high school) to have insurance, and work freelance. I plan to keep this way until my proffession really kicks up, or if it doesn't, I realy don't care. Just doing what I love is enough. That and writing, and art (computer-generated and fine arts), so that'll keep me preoccupied and happy for a lifetime, given that I'll have the time and resources to pursue all those.

Now PDers, I've had my say. What about you?
//Discussion . . Is it that late already? Go to post 19 Profile Discussion Tue Jun 24, 2008 7:51 am
HMMMmmmmm...

Well, I've never been late for anything important when making profiles...
Except--
Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner/Potty Trips/Sleeping on time (to be healthy, wealthy, and wise x3).

Pretty much you get the idea what kind of profiling attitude I have xD.

Hey, mine is clean too razz .

[That's because if it was trashed up my mom would be harking from dawn to dusk ><.]

Brother's away, and took the family's digital camera gonk .

But if I had a photo here--(read only if you're interested)

You'll see a desk, with side tables and two stacked shelves in the back. It's very useful. The posts that carry the top shelf also carry CDs. The top shelf carries all my brother's trophies, since I could never be the academic pro for the family, he was. Jk, I couldn't really care less, now that my family's loosened up on academics and stuff.

Beside the computer screen is the printer/scanner/copier/telephone/fax/every-other-technical-device-there-is.

Tower's on the bottom...

The only thing my main desk has is my cup, a few post-its, and a paper for organizing my layouts beforehand ^^.
New Profie :) Rate and Critique Go to post 9 Profile Discussion Tue Jun 24, 2008 7:29 am
Wow.

Sorry just---

Wow.

o.o

I feel so bad for not having looked at your profiles before, because this ones just pwns my sox over and over again xD.

[Has to go back to look to find something to critique about]

...wow (has got to stop saying it sometime >< ). Well, besides that I personally think your affie buttons' (whether with the template or not) shadow is too dark, that's just it o.o. You've officially made my 'almost perfect profile' rank x3.

Okay I got to stop drooling. Lawl.

To tell you the truth though, I don't give a lot of negatives, but at the same time not a lot of positives unless that person deserves it. So consider yourself, if nothing else, patted on the back ;3.

Okay, what I particularly liked about the profile, is that it's got this look of 'casual vintage' that I've never seen used before. The layout is organized very uniquely (which I envy), and the colors are all right x3. The biggest thing that I'm all over about is the fact that you actually 'separated' the add/view comments from the comments section (in which that came out looking spectacular, though in a way only the more skillful of the lot could see), and made it look innovative and unique ;o. Because I thought about it before, and simply thought I couldn't do it xS.

Great job. Really.

And one last thing:

Consider yourself patched ;P~
[newprofile] A little different ;) Go to post 36 Profile Discussion Tue Jun 24, 2008 7:07 am
Absolutely in love with the concept ;D.

Hmmm... since this was obviously intended to be a 'simple' layout ;P, I don't see much wrong with it. Maybe you can remove the background color of the gaia header, and change the background color of the gaia logo image (you're allowed to) to the color of the main background, to make the layout look more like it's simply laid out like a 'map-quest' in the middle of the 'screen', if you know what I mean ;3. But those are finicky details, that you can decide if you should do something about if you wanted to.

Otherwise, nice colors, and very original concept. It's straight, to the point, and made me laugh out loud just looking at it xP.
(discussion) Newcomers Go to post 41 Profile Discussion Tue Jun 24, 2008 6:54 am
I'm okay with newbies in the PD... well, maybe it's because I keep away from them ;o. Lol. Okay true, but I still give help every now and then and that sort of thing. I just tend to judge after so many people come to ask for rates and give you (mantra: a profile with pics slapped on it). One time there was this guy that purposely put 97578034953845034 images on it and asked us to rate --*.
[D i S C U S S] ORLY? I'm a trend-setter. 8D Go to post 14 Profile Discussion Tue Jun 24, 2008 5:57 am
I'm not terribly good at profiling yet, so I admit, I am a trend-follower in at least these cases:

-Using the 'icanonlyseethearrow' scrollbar
-brushes brushes brushes
-Never could think of unique layout organization, until now D;
-No seriously unique color schemes
-LOOOVED (as in <333333333333333333333) to get patches at first. Then realized couldn't keep up with many of them ><.
-Probably more I can't think of...

I am learning to experiment on my own in a few ways. I learned to make every other subcontent's font color different (including #comment .caption--'links'). I learned now to make my organization 'different' (as in can't tell any thing that's similar with the present and last layout). I learned to use a larger variety of colors.

Again, following trends is what starts you in whatever path you now are in, it's just a matter of if you want to move forward now that you need to choose whether you want to be trendsetter or trend-follower.
[Discussion] Now why didn't I think of that...? ._. Go to post 31 Profile Discussion Tue Jun 24, 2008 5:32 am
I have people like that all the time. There was Saeline first, back when her accound was ` S a e. Then PANIC. ITS. GRACE. Then as I started to get to know the profiling group, Liixi, Telep, Gummi.... etc. etc. ;3. It's not really envy, though it is there. It's more of a inspirational drive. Because of their talent and skill, they make me want to spur forward my potential and creativity to see what I can do~
[ D ! S C U S S ] Style of Critiquing Go to post 20 Profile Discussion Tue Jun 24, 2008 5:18 am
I normally try to 'balance the scales' on the whole positive/negative feedback thing. My belief is that unless you're their personal coach (and even then they won't always take it), people won't really listen to negative feedback. To actually help a person improve, you don't necessarily have to get on their good/bad side. You understand their present weaknesses, and give them what they can improve then based on that. Then the positive stuff can go in, like, if they got hope for real talent, you tell them that and say it plainly, no extra fluff. You point it out where it shows, give them something solid to hope for. If they don't... well then, they don't razz . I simply add a little comment, like 'this is a nice profile', or something like that. If it's something that's just a shocking wreckage, I (have learned) not to comment at all to save their little egos, regardless of if you simply want to help them, or be the bully of the playground ^^. Oh and, I'd normally stick a number at the end, though sometimes I'd forget ;o.

Wow--I guess I don't have to write about how I critique and everything now ><. I was just planning to address the 'good/bad' feedback on people's profiles, but that's a nevermind then, lol.
