Scrolling help Go to post 2 Profile Discussion Mon Oct 27, 2008 6:18 pm
I'm trying to hide my scrollbars, and make them scroll at the same time. Fro some reason even though I've seen others able to do it. I can't D:.

This is my body, site, and sections:

Body
body {overflow: auto; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: auto;}

Site
#site {margin-left: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; width: 100%; position: relative; height: 100%; overflow: auto; overflow-y: hidden; overflow-x: hidden; }

Sections
#details, #about, #friends, #journal, #wishlist, #comments {
border:none; font-family: Century Gothic; font-size: 8pt; overflow: auto; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden; font-weight: normal; background: transparent; }

Any ideas peoples ;o? And thanks in advance~
Status bar help? Go to post 4 Profile Discussion Mon Oct 27, 2008 5:29 pm
I don't know if this will help, but this is one thing I found different from my bar code and yours that you might try:

You use margins--I use position absolute (with top and left) and I found mine to work perfectly fine.

I've had that problem before, and I forgot how I've fixed it (;_; ), but it might have to do with that. Other than that, I don't know ><.

@ Sendoku:
I think that's a question for her to answer ^^.

Anyway, first put up my warning sign...

***LONG SPEECH AHEAD***

Okay.

If I had my way, people who had potential and talent would have their fair share of recognition. And be done with it.

During my time spent in the PD though, I recognize that's not it. People are people. They don't have a magical spyglass that can look for these particular things. The same with school, and society. They simply notice the things they're familiar with, and keep at that until it's gone. A person known for trustworthiness is more likely to be trusted for things than a person that just came in the group that has that same aspect.

In the PD, before most people open 'Rate My Profile' threads, they look to see who's posting it. And even though it's sad and unfair, it's true that most will glance away if the username is not one that they've seen often times before. So even though it seems that they're stereotyping that 'all elite people have all the recognition, and all newbies don't', we're stereotyping them back by saying that.

It's more habit than stereotype, though sometimes we easily fall into that. Even though there are people that tend to forget (or in some cases, neglect) to give attention to others, because they are old PDers or even what people (and I did before too, simply because I thought them uncaring for the new people and cared too much for their little group) usually call the 'elite', it's all born out of habit--whether good or bad. Not just simply ugly, stereotyping.

Stereotyping itself is a habit. It simply depends how much you do it that it becomes stereotyping. When I started seeing that it's not people with recognition that have more power, but everyone has their particular thing to get them their worth whether it's attention or whatever, I realized that I needed to start looking at individual uniqueness and worth, whether it was in myself or others. And that's, surprisingly in some cases, when the thing you used to want you no longer do, that you do get it.

It'd be cranky in the morning, live off coffee and ramen 24-7, be perfectly normal to you and then slap you in the face for treading on it's copyright sign ;o.

Yep, my profiles are naturally and bona fide bipolar cool .

GArr.
Haven't been able to get to this discussion all day D<.

@ L_C
Yeah... starting out was always hard ><. Especially if you don't have the graphics programs. I started out just coding too, because I didn't know how to make my own graphics.
I started using Paint.Net and GIMP by reference from the PD FAQ. And then after that I eventually got Photoshop x). It's just when you're starting out, without resources and knowledge that it's hard. When you do get both, things go so much easier~

@ Shangri
Oh yes. It took me a while to get used to it ;o. I didn't use it at first because I was too afraid I'd click something and get 'ERROR. PROGRAM MISUSED BY N00B. SHUTTING DOWN NOW.' DDDx.
Lol. Yeah I felt so much better after I got Photoshop and started getting used to it too ^^ (think I've used GIMP too long, but using Photoshop at first just felt wierd to me D wink .
Yeah, I did notice that ;o. Still, one has to experiment every now and then ^^.
(& at the last comment)
HAH xDDD
Maybe price them at 666g ;o?

@ Shireo
Wow, haven't talked to you in a long time~
I'm horrible at keeping contact with people D;.
Gosh. He 'gave' you it even before you started o-o. *in shock*
Ahh yes. I remember freewebs. I never got to make much of it for web design though ;_;. At least not when I had more time.
Gosh... your story sounds like a fairy-godmother just tapped you on the head with a wand and you turned out to be the Shireo we know today xD. Hehe... I know that it's not it, but a lot of people don't get a (at least) worth a few hundred dollars program handed to them, and then free web hosting ;o. Though the biggest part of it still comes from effort and talent, I think you've been God-blessed x) (no offence if you're aetheist or anything, it's just my faith).
Yeah, it's people we look up to in these (actually 'any') type of things that give us drive and inspiration. Today, it's actually designers like you, Liixi, Shangrii-La and so on that do that ^^. You should be proud.

Not bad ^^.
The style and colors in the template go very well with the theme (TMOHS), but things are just a little bit on the plain side (with effects). You could've used a drop shadow there, an outerglow there, and oh, dash in a couple of brushes. Most of these are only available in Photoshop, so unless you were using it, you won't be able to employ those. What program do you use?

Also, the text colors and link effects could also use a bit more variety. You could include the colors from the template in the font colors and CSS content itself. There's also double scrolling scrollbars, and cross-browser incompatibility. To fix the first problem, use overflow-x: hidden; (x meaning the bottom scrollbar that scrolls left to right) for any section that you want the extra scrollbar gone. The second is a bit more tricky, which would take a lot more time in explaining, so if you're interested in knowing how to fix it, pm me~

Last of all, I'd rather not use number ratings except for those well-experienced in this, because it sometimes will hurt the feelings of the person who recieves it. I'm a person who rates exactly what I see, not based on experience or anything. Since you did ask for it though... 6.8/10
