My bank has upgraded it's website design and security twice in the past year, announced, at least, and is completely cross browser. American banking websites must suck.

@Markup: No. All sorts of no. GIMP doesn't hold a candle to Photoshop. I know this because it's true. Using the GIMP, as a new user years ago, before Photoshop was even a speck on my radar, I found it the most frustrating experience in the world. Photoshop, on the other hand, had a frustrating learning curve as well, but it wasn't nearly as steep or as spiky or as obviously designed-by-geeks-who-have-little-experience-in-what-a-graphic-designer-wants-and-needs.

If you ever had to make 1 metre by 2 metre wall hangings yourself (for money!) you would understand. GIMP is not up to the task.

tl;dr: Don't be an apologist.
