How old were you when... Go to post 182 Writers Wed Aug 13, 2008 2:18 am
I'll be completely honest, like no lies. I had just turned three when I started to write. My parents had taught me reading and writing from when I was just a baby all the way until kindergarten. My first story was about the Lion King and it was written on old notebook paper in sparkly black Crayola crayon and it was about Simba beating up Scar. Of course, you can only read like four words in the whole thing (my mom kept it all these years).

After that, I filled an entire notebook with stories by the time I turned four that I still have.

I only think I started writing that early because I was totally dyslexic in math (it's called dyscalculia) and my brain made up for it by having me write at a young age. XD Hard to believe, I know.
The best/favorite line you ever wrote? Go to post 1912 Writers Wed Aug 13, 2008 2:06 am
I have a few from some stories I've written over the past two years. I think they turned out pretty good. The first three are from a steampunk story I'm writing. I really loved these lines.

Quote:
"To burn is to live, to die, to fight, to love, and to hate. To burn is what we do to live. Air, water, earth; they mean nothing. Fire is what we do. Fire is what we are. To be human is to burn. You awaken with a spark, you are consumed by the flame, you are out with a breath. Sir, I live so I burn. I can love with a flaming passion, I can hate just the same. I am what I am now because I let fire consume my soul."

And this one I love in particular. :3

Quote:
"Now I must leave. I have an army waiting for me to ignite them. This city is burning sir, and I would love to join it."

And this by far is probably my favorite.

Quote:
"My life certainly didn't resemble any old fairy tale despite what it looked like from a distance. I wasn't Sleeping Beauty, going to p***k my finger on a spindle and fall into a deep sleep. I was something entirely different. I was going to slam my hand on that spindle as hard as possible and die with my hand impaled on an instrument that made clothes that I could never afford."

I have a bunch more but I don't think anyone would want to read them. xp

Actually, I was just getting into writing a steampunk story seeing as how I've been into it for a year (judging by the avatar XD).

My only disadvantages in writing the story is that it's hard to make anachronisms that go against my better judgment (like having a steam-powered computer and the like) so it makes it a little difficult. XP

It's kind of a little subculture in itself, though I'm not sure you could even call it that. It focuses on a post-apocalyptic dystopia idea while also being very Victorian as far as dressing and manners and whatever else.

Basically, it's like Victorian era things like fancy dresses and suits, carriages, and anything else Victorian you could think of, but with things like motorcycles and steam-powered airships, and sometimes even computers. It's a really crazy thing, but amazing in itself. It's kind of like the compliment to cyberpunk.

In that case, I think your current plot should run its course. biggrin

Alrighty then! ^_^ Thank you very much for your help on that one.

Second, I've also been concocting a new plot that runs alongside my current fascination with the steampunk lifestyle. (As if my avatar and house didn't tell you how much I like it!) Anyways, do you guys thing that this plot should just run its course and will fizzle out eventually or should I pursue a steampunk plot?

what's steampunk?

Well, I have this thing against reading stories online so I didn't finish it all.
However, I'm already loving it. Personally, I think that there's too much dialog at certain points and that occasionally there's an...awkward moment in the writing. Don't ask me to point out the awkward moments though, that'd be too hard, heh heh. I can't see anything missing yet, but perhaps if I read more....

^_^ Well, thank you for reading it anyways.
I know I still have to polish it up to death, and that's what I'm doing now. I get the "awkward moments" thing, so thanks for pointing that out (now I know I have to fix it and stop procrastinating xd ).

i read the first ch. and a half

first i would like to say that as soon as your book is done let me know! i would love to read it

on to the criticism

obviosly this is a rough draft but i'm sure once you polish the piece it will read a lot smoother

there are also a few gramatical and structural errors that i happened to notice and you might want to fix

all in all it looks to a promising work of fiction and i can't wait for it to be done!
good luck

^_^ Thank you very much!

And I know about the grammar. xd According to some of my friends, I seem to be the run-on sentence queen. However, I'm trying to polish this thing into perfection. XD That's hard work though, but I guess it's all part of being a writer.

And thank you, yet again. biggrin
Anyone think they are going insane from writing? Go to post 44 Writers Sun Aug 10, 2008 3:47 am
Oh absolutely. For some reason, my best ideas come in the shower (crazy alert!) and I'll often talk to myself while I'm showering about ideas. Then sometimes I'll just think about my writing ideas and nothing else and I'll realize I've spent an entire day just thinking about writing.

Actually, I've had entire stories take up my life in a way that will probably make me legally insane by the time I'm 20. xd

Okay, so I'm in the middle of writing the longest story of my life, the only one I've ever been really committed to writing. I believe it has a solid plot, colorful characters, and all sorts of things. But for some reason, I think it's lacking something. So what I was wondering is if some nice lovely people on these boards would mind helping me with this ordeal, seeing as how even five editors who really worked on this story with me just can't seem to ease my...uneasiness. So if you're willing, here's the link to the first four chapters of the story:

And last but not least, as far as fanfiction goes (my ff.net account name is the same as this account name if anyone is curious, though I know it's shameless self-promotion), I really need ideas for a multi-chaptered story. Right now, I'm on a Kingdom Hearts II/Organization XIII kick. So does anyone have any ideas or do they want to see a certain plot be covered that's never been covered before?

I know this is a lot to ask, but I figured a site with this many people on it (and this many writers apparently) would be able to help a fellow Gaian/writer. biggrin

Thankies!
