Gaians giving back to charities Go to post 12173 Gaia Community Discussion Sun Sep 14, 2008 4:39 am
Hmmm...if there was an "all" option, I would for go that. blaugh

But after looking over all of the poll items, I'd have to say it was a tie between animals and children. Animals, because I'm an animal lover (even if they're not cute and cuddly) and I've read stories of them being abused. And children, because I also like kids and I've read waaay too many child abuse stories, where the kids are being beaten or starved by parents, caretakers etc.

(Since we could only choose one, I voted for Children and Youth, btw.)

Chyaku Norisu kun
japanese and proud

Woohoo, me too! blaugh I don't actually know Japanese beyond "konnichiwa" and "gohan o tabemasu" (I took a semester of it in high school), but I can read kana and some kanji and I do like the way the language sounds. (My Spanish is better than my Japanese. sweatdrop ) I love anime and manga. And I go to AX (being the nearest con) and the relatives and I indulge in sushi, okayo donburi and other tasty Japanese food items.

Mmmm...mochi. heart

4laugh
Do You Listen to Songs in Different Languages? Go to post 132 General Discussion Mon Sep 01, 2008 9:58 am
Ooh yes, English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Italian and Sanskrit (The Duel of the Fates from Star Wars Ep. I). Other than English, the Japanese ones take up a large portion of my iTunes library, although at the moment, I'm in search of some good Spanish songs (mainly from Disney movies 4laugh ).

Hmm...my opinions have changed somewhat ever since they announced the redesign.

As a web designer, I think the theme/colors and subnavigation kind of make it seem like an almost entirely different part of the site, which I don't really like. I think if they stuck with the same basic theme of the other sections (Shop, Community, etc), then it might feel a little more integrated with the rest of the site—but then, hey, I noticed that Games uses the same theme/colors as My Gaia. eek

I think the additional subnavigation for My Gaia is a bit redundant and the images for navigation items don't really fit in with the theme of the site. I mean, where else do you see something similar to that? The main navigation right under the header image is just text. All of the other sections don't have separate subnavigations. It just doesn't fit, if you ask me.

On the other hand, I don't mind the new features. I don't mind if my friends could see what I did via the live feed, since they're people I trust anyway (and three of them I happen to be related to, so...yeah blaugh ). It looks like the main My Gaia page is the only one that went under a massive revamp (content was changed and so on), so I'm not really bothered by it.

As for the Facebook/Myspace thing, I guess the feed does make it seem kind of Facebookish/Myspaceish, but that's the only similarity I could see. I'm definitely a newbie here (July '08 ), but I have lurked at Gaia in Feb '03, so I did see how animeish and childlike it felt...I LOVED IT. xp But as several others said before, it looks like Gaia's trying to appeal to a wider audience. neutral

Umm...yeah, that was kind of long. Sorry. I like to waffle on.
Your Username FAILS Go to post 270 Chatterbox Thu Aug 21, 2008 2:43 am
Heh, I actually don't mind usernames with numbers or underscores. I just see it as part of a person's individuality (then again, I might be biased--everyone on my friends list has numbers in their usernames 3nodding ). But uhhh...yeah, it really doesn't bother me.
Feedback: My Gaia Landing Page Redesign Go to post 11239 Site Feedback Thu Aug 14, 2008 10:14 am
I don't know about it looking like Myspace or Facebook, but I actually like the current design. But I also kind of like the idea of using icons in the sub-navigation (I do that on my site sometimes) just as long as the name of the navigation item shows up in something like a tooltip when the user hovers over it (in case if someone like me can't figure out what the icon refers to). Like what others have said, I don't see very many people using the to-do lists. Other than that, I really don't have anything else to say.

BUUUUT I think it would be a good idea to give users the option of switching between the current layout and the new one, otherwise there will be a lot of unhappy people. crying
