Feylin stood and gathered his things and made to leave the room, but stopped when he remembered that he didn't know where he was supposed to go. He turned to Miss Preston. " Um, Miss Preston, d'you think you could tell me where I'm supposed to go? I don't know where my dorm is.

Feylin was impressed by the cocky catgirl's bold attitude. He loved confidence in a female. But she had called him a bird. He knew for a fact that he wasn't any sort of feathered creature. He was a dragon, much stronger and better than any bird could be. He had to admit though. Nessa had spunk, and not only that, she was cute too He'd love to get to know more about her, that is, after he silenced that boastful bragging of hers. He called after her as she left the room. "Hey Nessa! I'd be glad to shut that big mouth of yours any time you're ready! That is, if you think you're up to the challenge!" He knew he was going to love it here. If all the girls were as awesome as Nessa seemed to be.

As Feylin built the fire, he watched Maia work with an interested eye. Her hands seemed to have minds of their own as they weaved branches from a nearby tree into a little roof for them to take shelter under. She was clearly full of surprises, and he couldn't wait to see what else she had in store to show him. He had to admit, she was very resourceful. Clever and beautiful too. He couldn't place his finger on the reason why, but he was beginning to become enamored with the young lioness. She was timid, shy, and gentle yet he could sense an inner strength within her A strength that she had yet to show. Now wasn't the best time to reveal these new feelings, as she had only just begun to trust him. If he told her how he felt right now, she would probably leave him right away. No, this was something he'd have to save for later, when she had gotten more used to his presence. "Wow Maia! where'd you learn to do that? He asked as he stood up to drag the steer carcass closer to the fire. He then broke three big, sturdy branches from a nearby tree and found a long, sturdy log, pulling the materials to the middle of the campsite, and jabbing two into the ground on either side of the fire. He wished he had a knife so that he could cut the steer into sections.

((Aww! I don't want you to go! I'm having too much fun!))

Feylin was indeed impressed by Maia's sense of smell. Maybe it was her hunger, but her sense of smell had indeed surpassed his own, and allowed her to track down the carcass of the buck, which was still warm from it's final attempt at fleeing from him. He hadn't noticed before, but the buck's carcass did in fact smell very appetizing, and his mouth was beginning to water from the intense hunger that was creeping slowly into his belly.

"Maia, I can tell you're hungry. I can start a cookfire if you'd like your food hot. Would you like that?"He knew she was right of course. They would have to find shelter if they wanted to remain safe if they slept tonight.

Feylin chuckled with embarrassment at Maia's question. "Well y'see, I did manage to find some meat for us, a big male deer. Enough to feed the two of us for at least a few days. But when I heard you scream, ran straight here and I uh, I kinda... dropped it. He looked away from her in sheer embarrassment at his blunder. She'd surely think he was a big klutz for losing such a bountiful feast. He wanted to go back and get it, but in his haste, he had forgotten where it was. It looked as though he'd have to go hunting again, only this time, he'd bring Maia with him to make sure she stayed out of danger.

Feylin calmed down as he watched the ghostly flames devour the face tree greedily, burning it to a crackling, popping pile of ashes within minutes. When he was satisfied that the tree was gone, he turned and knelt near Maia, putting his arm around her shoulders in an attempt to comfort her. He could tell she was very frightened, and he knew it was partly his own fault.

"Maia, did I frighten you? If I did, I'm sorry. It's just, when I heard you scream, I just lost it. Nothing else mattered except that I destroy that tree. because it was trying to eat you. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if you had been eaten. I'm so sorry Maia. Please don't be afraid of me..."

Feylin had been marching triumphantly back to the campsite, prize slung over his shoulders, when he heard it. A scream of terror high and loud over the relentless pounding rain. "Maia!" he roared, dropping his kill, he sprinted off through the forest. Trees burst asunder in showers of splinters, wood, and bark as Feylin raced in the direction he thought he heard the scream come from. Soon he came upon a scene that caused his anger to burst forth. Maia had been grabbed by what looked like a gigantic face tree, which was slowly pulling her toward it's gaping wooden maw. With a roar of anger, he jumped up and sliced the branch wrapped around her wrist with his claws and caught her as she fell. setting her on the ground at a safe distance, Feylin turned his attention back to the monstrous tree.Taking a deep breath, he opened his mouth and breathed a searing blast of flame at it, engulfing the tree in a pale blue inferno.

Feylin walked along the drenched forest path, dodging low hanging vines and hoping over exposed roots. He kept his eyes, ears, and nose open, waiting for the telltale signs that would alert him that his prey was nearby. Several uneventful minutes passed before he caught a scent. Eager to make the catch, he honed in on the scent until he came to a glade, in which a gigantic buck stood, grazing on the wet grasses poking up through the sodden earth. As quietly as he could, Feylin sneaked stealthily up behind the animal. But he should have known it wouldn't be such an easy kill. As soon as he was close, the buck caught his scent and bolted, crashing off through the trees. But Feylin had anticipated this. As soon as the buck began to run, he took to the air, flying after the beast like a bat out of hell. He landed on the buck's back and sank his fangs into it's neck, severing the animal's spinal cord in typical big cat fashion. The mighty beast toppled to the ground, throwing Feylin a few feet away. He hit the ground rolling and came up on his feet, satisfied with another successful hunt. He went back and picked the buck's carcass up, hefting it as easily as he would a newborn baby. This would be more than enough meat for the two of them.
