Zebeki Callus

Zebeki eventually realized he should leave Alex alone for awhile. Even a novice like him knew that the Hunters wouldn't be stupid enough to attack in such a public place. "Umm...I'll see you later, Alex. Bye!" he called as he ran off to his next class. Several bells went by; a long, hazy blur. He couldn't concentrate; too much energy floating around. It was hard to tell if any Hunters were near. Not to mention his thoughts kept drifting to Alex. Would she be alright? What if Flirt-Boy returned with a vengeance. A few teachers barked at him for slacking off. Not that he cared much.

Finally, lunch came. And the warning aches of a change. He sprinted into the nearest bathroom. The girls' bathroom. He hid in the stall for a while as a couple of girls yelled at him. "Pervert!" they shrieked. The boy who exited, though, was strikingly different than the one who entered. He was taller, with longer neater blonde hair. His violet eyes reflected more intelligence than the child who had rushed in before, though his awkward embarrassed smile betrayed his playful spirit.

"Eh...sorry," he mumbled. The girls just stared dumbfounded, unable to comprehend how different the two boys were. Zebeki however, took no notice. So this world has gender-specific bathrooms...How odd, he thought.

Lunch was hectic; teens seemed to run wild. Zebeki marveled at all the different food choices; then recalled that food costs money in this world. Having none, he slipped into a random table, not glancing up at anyone.

"Hi," he smiled, hoping to start a conversation. "So, how's life?"

The automaton sat quietly, undisturbed by its discovery. The boy had no idea it was a spy. The bird wouldn't tell if it knew for sure. So it didn't retaliate, make a sound, or even blink. It simply stared and idled every now and then, cleaning its sharp steel feathers or circling around the car roof.
