Psychology is waaay different from psychiatry. Psychiatry is the treatment of mental illness, psychology is the study of behaviour. The latter is most certainly beneficial and whilst ethically dubious in the 50s and 60s, there's nothing dangerous about it now.

Ron Hubbard and the like without giving proper citation. His profile on Wikipedia is a complete ******** of asinine bullshit on his part - as far as I know, the dumbass has been banned from editing on Wikipedia altogether.
Also, it's worth noting that Scientology only got it's tax-exempt status by filing lawsuit after lawsuit against the IRS, saying that they would drop them all IF and ONLY IF the IRS gave them tax-exemption status. That's ******** extortion anyway you cut it.
There was no extortion, nor was there a lawsuit. We got our tax exemption status in a peaceful manner like any other religion. What you hear on those internet websites can't be trusted.
