"Guys Can't Hit Girls" - Chivalrous or Sexist? Go to post 670 Extended Discussion Fri Oct 19, 2007 10:38 pm
This is a topic that galls me every time it is brought up.

My previous friends, who were mostly all girls, had the mindset that men should not hit women; yet, it was perfectly acceptable for a woman to hit a man.

Hello? Double standard anyone?

In my mind, that is like thinking you should have a right to beat on someone, and that they should not be allowed to defend themselves.

Even before I started martial arts, I made it clear to every guy I was friends with that if I hit them, I expect them to retaliate as they see fit. It hurts, yes, but it is only fair. Likewise, if they hit me, I get to hit them back.

This is something that happened in my martial arts class; the men seemed to be taking it easy on me regardless of the fact that I needed to learn how it is to be struck, until I somehow threw one of them to the floor. I was mucho happy when they stopped being so nervous about attacking me.

I'm on the fence when it comes to spam.

On one hand, in America at least, I am all for Freedom of Speech.

On the other, spam can possibly border on harassment if it is being sent by the same person. :/

I don't like spam. I've had to stop using two e-mail accounts thanks to the crap, but they have a right to send e-mails too, unless it is made clear you don't want what they are sending, which just brings more spam anyway. gonk

I'm actually somewhat surprised at what charges were put against them. I was expecting something else.
Is atheism wrong? Go to post 182 Extended Discussion Fri Oct 19, 2007 9:37 pm
I actually believe that it atheism is both right and wrong, in the sense that it depends on the person. To me it is right; to someone else, it is wrong.

In my eyes, I am not a sinner; to someone else, I am. See what I mean?

In all honestly, even trying to explain my thoughts on this are difficult.

hmm, as you are at the moment i'd say you could ask only upto 1 to 1.5k. that would be for a full body coloured. However, you need to work on proportioning and colouring techniques before being able to make a fair amount from your artwork.

It's funny you mention that, because that is actually part of why I'm wanting to start a shop - besides making a little gold, that is. I need the practice, and this would give me a reason and give me different things to draw.

I figured somewhere around 1k was going to be it...actually, I figured even lower then that!

This does give me a gist of prices though. smile Thank you very much.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: I swear Ash and Aaron are related somehow, family-wise.

I certainly think it's poor form, especially if you don't credit the original artist. I view copying art and slapping on new hair and such the same as I do with eyeballing. Because you're not just taking the pose. You're taking the composition, angle, and in most cases, the lighting.

How is using the pose poor form? It'd be one thing if they used the same lighing, body structure, face, and such, but this is a case of using a drawing the same way you would use one of those posable dummies.

Bump. Come on, I would really like to know whether it'd be worth it to start a shop. sad

What? No!

Using a picture just to get the pose right isn't stealing. That's referencing.

Now if she draws the picture exactly as shown, down to every detail, that is stealing.

It's pretty disgusting to see how many people just download their anime like they have a ******** right to it. Well FYI people, anime isn't free. Neither is manga. BUY YOUR ******** ANIME AND MANGA. Be a real fan and save up money like the rest of us respectful people. Why don't you actually go out and buy them so you can ******** support all the people who slaved away making anime and manga for your watching and reading pleasures.

Seeing this many downloaders in one place puts a sour taste in my mouth. You people have no respect for your fandom. It is disgusting.

As for me, I buy my anime and manga. I save up and wait and buy my fandom and support the people who worked so hard for me. To date, I have only read one manga series online and I am damn ******** proud of that. I'm not taking part in the fall of the anime/manga industry and I'm not the slime of the general anime/manga following who steals their anime/manga because they think they have some legal right to it.

D I S G U S T I N G.

Please. Get off your high horse. Not everyone has the luxary of being able to just 'save up their money.'

Personally, most if not all of my money goes toward school and food or toward trying to get my novel done so that I can hopefully start making more money. What isn't used for that ends up being used for just that eventually anyway. Guess what ends up not being able to be bought?

So I can't buy it now; trust me, when I'm able, they'll be getting a good part of my paycheck no doubt.

Nah, I kinda like it up here. I don't have the "luxury" or buying my anime either. I am sixteen, I have a job, I pay for my own gas, I pay for my own cell phone, I pay for my own Martial Arts lessons, and I do not get any sort of allowance.

But I don't steal my anime or manga.

I have a jar in my room that I drop spare change into and eventually when it fills up, I wrap it, trade it in, and I have a nice sum of money for my fandom. I work overtime sometimes so I can get a bit of extra spending money if I know I'm going somewhere. And the funniest thing is I haven't been able to buy anime or manga for about a month or so now as I have to many expenses at the time.

But guess what? I still don't steal my anime and manga.

I wait until I do have enough money, I save up my spare change and I still manage to have a nice manga and anime collection going. Anime and manga are not free, anime and manga are not a need, anime and manga are not important to your health, you can wait.

And quite frankly, if you consider reading manga/watching anime off the internet stealing, you ought say the same thing about borrowing it from a friend, which is pretty common too. Either way the creators make no money off you; is it not stealing then too? I meant that last 'you' in general, just to clarify for everyone.

The problem is, depending on the person, it can be a need; for me it isn't due to the fact that I do have other things I can do besides read or sit on my a** watching anime, which makes it rare that I look it up. I'm also in a martial arts class, along with my other classes, not to mention I write and draw.

But how about those that really only just read (Yes, I actually know someone like this)? People need something to do; for some its reading, others surfing the internet, and others it's just coming here on gaia. For those that don't have 20 different hobbies like me, waiting a month or more is an issue.

As I...well, I was supposed to say, it comes down to situation. If someone has the means to buy it, yes, they need to get over themselves and go out and spend the money for it if they really want it, but if they don't...well, I can't really hold it against them. Not all of us have jobs for one reason or another where we have the option of what you are doing.

One thing I do believe in regards to this is that if you are going to watch/read it online, you sure as hell better have intent on buying it later when you can at least, like I intend on doing. Once I have a job, that is. :/

Why fight over evolution and god, for all we know, god created evolution. But we don't have enough proof to prove one right and the other wrong. We will never know everything, so let this rest.

That's something I've found funny for awhile. Have these people not thought of the possibly that God greated the first creatures, and gave the world the process of evolution as to create more and make it to were they change as needed to survive?
