The human brain has always fascinated me and after reading this article, my interest has been rekindled. I do not wish to start a discussion about that article I mentioned, but would prefer to start a discussion regarding current brain research and information.

Given our limited understanding of the brain, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out it could have abilities we would by today's standards consider paranormal. It is, however, pure speculation and wishful thinking on my part, with no basis in any research.

Well, it was proven that we use ALL our brains, just that at any one time, a maximum of 10% of our neurons are firing. So that means that if we can induce ALL our neurons to fire at the same time, we might be able to come up with something interesting!

Like a seizure.

I mean, here in M&R we have kind of a schizophrenia on the subject. We either have 'My faith tells me homos r bad' or we have Eteponge.
I guess that really accounts for why the brain doesn't fire all our neurons at one go...

So, people with epilepsy use more than 10% of their neurons.

PM me and comment, I love it.
I can only please one person a day. Today doesn't look good. Tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Oh god, THANK YOU for that response!
Seriously, some people just don't get it... sometimes, just because something isn't running everything all at once...

Immagine a computer. Your computer. You turn on excell. You turn on microsoft word. You turn on world of warcraft. You start looking on gaia.

Do this all at the same time, then try typing into everything. You're going to get a jumbled mess, and a murlock is going to eat you while you type.

I think capacity-wise, the brain should function much more efficiently than a computer... But oh well... I guess that its a good example...

Much of the brain isn't used for logic, creativity, spacial reasoning or anything that is particularly important to intelligence.
If every neuron in the brain were continuously firing, there would be many firing into the same neurons over very short period of time and something about that seems like it seems like it'd cause brain damage due to oddly high voltage and sudden changes in voltage in certain parts of the brain.

The brain is so fascinating. We only use less than 10% of it's capacity in our lifetime.

Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain

I don't know what a rhombencephalon is. I voted for it because it had the longest name.

What's a rhombencephalon?

Hindbrain. The part that connects directly to the spinal cord.
