Welcome to Gaia! ::

I know that if you inject Oxygen into your blood stream, it can be harmful!

I think it creates an air bubble & goes straight to your heart as obviously, blood being bumped to and from the heart!

Is this right?

Thanks 4laugh
Something like that gas bubbles create blockages in major arteries.

Pretty much.
It's not only harmful but it kills you.
(:
a certain amount will kill you, but a few little bubbles won't really do anything.

^^ not true, even small bubbles can cause air embolisms in capillary beds. Which will lead to death of the tissue supplied by those cappilaries.

Not a good idea. The bends is essentially bubbles of nitrogen gas in the blood after all.
When blood is exposed to air, it will clot. So if you clot off, I dunno, the coronary arteries - heart attack, or the cerebral arteries - a stroke... any air in the blood stream is BAD ... so we don't do it.
Air bubbles have a nasty tendency to rise, even against pressure. If it were to, say, get caught within capillaries in your legs, you could have dead tissue FAST.

The only way to get oxygen safely in to your blood stream is by getting more blood, the blood contains oxygen.
It will kill you. The mafia has used this technique before.
the human body is actually pretty good at reabsorbing air bubbles non-fatally, you need a fairly significant volume (say, 2cc+) to reliably kill, but as Dimari mentioned, peripheral tissue damage is not fun either

My dad takes Cubicin every morning (through an IV PICC line). The nurses in the infusion say that little air bubble (small ones) are okay, but if there's a long line of air within the tubing then that can be fatal. It has to be a pretty long line though and not just a few small to medium air bubbles. I guess it really wouldn't be a bubble much less a huge pocket of air within the tubing (which is essentially what bubbles are but you get my point. Heh).

I would say what Dimethyltryptamine said is accurate.

But if a long line of okygen does get in, what it does is create a clot that goes to your heart and creates a stroke or heart attack.
It's not only harmful, but fatal.
I'm sure a few small bubbles aren't harmful. Those are essentially unavoidable when you get an injection. Large amounts of air, though, are bad news.

Although air bubbles are terrible when injected into the bloodstream, and your statement about the bends is correct, the bends does not always kill you. So you small air bubbles are not always fatal, but they can be incredibly painful.

I never said either would kill you.
I merely said the latter could cause tissue death which in itself isn't automatically fatal, then likened it to the bends.
Oxygen has a liquid form as well too, maybe drinking it wouldn't be harmful if taken in minute doses.
