Everything is made out of energy in some form right? E=MC^2 essentially states that everything is matter if you look beyond its original purpose. As such consiousness is another form of energy. As to the big bang, I prefer the string/brane version of the big bang which is an explosive injection of energy as the result of the brane which houses our universe colliding with another brane.

evolution is just a modernized version of spontaneous generaton the belief that living things, (humans) can come from non-living things (energy or sludge)

its the most primitive and unsupported belief of them all.

There's only one book that anyone takes seriously that says that life was just poofed into existence (hint: It starts with a B and rhymes with libel).

Perhaps you should acquaint yourself with the modern literature on the subject, or, barring that, at least try to be less than 400 years out of date.

Yes, that's why the first 5 pages of Genesis use it. Modern science has only been around about 200 years. Gods and superstition are the oldest beliefs.

Evolution doesn't say how life began.
"Spontaneous generation" doesn't mean the same thing as "abiogenesis," and neither one of those is evolution.
Evolution happens to be an observed and documented fact with solid theory backed by insurmountable evidence. Could you be any more wrong?

Quote:
It's certainly possible.

observed how? cell division? thats Dna replication. the only way anyone could observe evolution is if they threw all that sludge into a petri dish and used an inorganic and extremely powerful catalyst to make little lifeforms rise from it.

Yeah, we can do that again.
Seeing how the catholic church now agrees with Darwin's findings, I'm sure one day you'll be able to understand that we do have a common ancestor with "monkeys" like you say. If you could only see how genetically similar we are to primates, and even to some protists, you'd be amazed. Scientists and biologist aren't pulling this information out of mid-air. There's hard evidence and studies that allow us to see what evolution truly is.

even when you follow mitochondrial DNA you see the similarities....
Hell evolution hallpens right now on a smaller scale
I know way to many people who act like chimps greedy self centered beings. I prefer the company of people who do good because its the right thing to do as opposed to people who will do a bad thing because they know their imaginary friend will forgive them.

We didn't evolve from monkeys. We evolved from the ancestors of monkeys. apes. Get it straight.

This.

This was a while back, but I still stand by what I said. Apes share a common ancestor with monkeys. We share a common ancestor with apes. Therefore, we share a common ancestor with monkeys. It's not that much of leap considering creationists just lump them all together anyway.
I've never understood why people feel that it must be one or the other. Here's one way that it can be merged.

The Bible says that the Earth and all the life on it was created in 6 days. (The 7th day was a day of rest.) The geologic record says that the Earth is approx. 4.5 billion years old. The theory of relativity could be applied there. Say that one of God's days equals millions of years here on Earth. This could well provide enough time for evolution to occur on the same schedule as the Bible says.

I was taught (and i'm a catholic who went to an all girls catholic high school) That the Bible is a Series of stories to be used as a moral guideline, in my mind God could have created the mechanisms for evolution or something along those lines
*puts on her Anthropologist (one who studies the human species) nerd cap*

1. As many have pointed out, we did not evolve from monkeys. We evolved from the great ape branch of the primate family tree. Remember monkeys have tails, apes do not. Monkeys also have much smaller, less complex brains while great apes have much larger more complex brains.

2. Chimps (an ape, not a monkey!) have 98% similar DNA to the modern human.

3. We didn't go straight from ape to human. There were many branches of our evolutionary tree, many which died out, before humans. Our evolutionary ancestor that we shared with the great apes lived over 7 million years ago. Educate thyself of our ancestors.

4. Darwin's theory is just that a theory. Put it simply, he saw that when 2 groups of one species where seperated for a long period of time, the one species changed into completely different species because of different environments. He then stated that the same could have happened with the human species. At no time did Darwin state "LOL monkeys=humans!"

Personally I believe you can't take the bible at face value. It makes no mention of dinosaurs or megafauna, it's historically inacurrate, and it is believed to be written by at least 5 different people over 500 years.

Thats not evolving, thats adaptation. It could lead to an evolution after many many generations.

The main problem with that is the translation; the original text contained a somewhat ambiguous word that we just arbitrarily translated into meaning a week.
