First off, a brief intro to Cancer.
People have fought long and hard against the Big C. There have been some incredible discoveries (including this one), but there are a lot of hurdles to overcome. We've had to put up with a lot of lies from people like Hulda Clark, offering false hope through fraudulant devices like blood electrifiers. There's also the possiblity that large pharmacutical companies are trying to keep back cure research because they don't want to go out of business, but these are just conspiracy theories.
So will there ever be a true cure for cancer, or will we just see more con artists peddling their miracle cures?

There will never be a magic bullet that cures every cancer. Each type of cancer is different and unique, and there's no one thing that will work on each one. Even within a type of cancer some drugs on work sometimes and not other times, so it's beyond complicated. Over time we may be able to come up with the right combinations of surgery, radiation, and drugs to combat most cancers, but I don't ever see a cure-all coming to fruition.

This is the Zodiac speaking...

Given that cancer is more a condition or malfunction than a disease, I don't think there will ever be a "cure", per se, but I do hope more effective and pleasant methods of dealing with the condition are found.

Also, cancer is an umbrella term for many different types of cellular malfunctions, different cancers have different causes, and sometimes you can live the healthiest life style ever and still fall to it. It's one of those things that we'll never be able to wipe out or find a singular solution too, but I hope we will be able to raise the success rate of cancer treatments.
...that is all.

The nice thing is that we're getting there, plus it brings people together for a common good, something that tends to happen only occasionaly nowadays.

There will never be a cure in the sense of medicine.

However more advanced and precise diagnostic and therapeutic technology could drastically improve odds to the stage where you could almost call it a cure.

The problem with curing cancer is simply managing to get rid of all the 'malfunctioning' cells, if you could accurately pinpoint where all those cells are and cleanly remove them from the body, hey-presto, there is your cure.
We just need someone to invent such technology.

And with follow up treatment, there the case of developing drugs with less harmful side effects. The biggest problem with chemotherapy is the damage it causes to the body while it's damaging the cancer.

One word come to my mind when you mention this. You, Golden, wont be suprized in the least when I mention this: Nanotech. I imagine that we'll make bots that can enter the blood stream to diagnose and destroy cancer at the sights. The bots will be so exacting that the cancerous cells will be destroyed but healthy cells will go untouched. Medical professionals are also learning how to prevent some cancers from developing the quickly growing blood vessels that they need in order to thrive. Think this is bull? Take a look at respirocytes. We're not that far away.

Also, is the lesser known process of switching your body to a more alkaline PH. Cancers thrive in acidic environments, and of course alkalinity cancels this out. As coverd by Ray Kurzweil's book: Fantastic Journey; Live Long Enough to Live Forever! A Harvard medical practitioner suggests consuming Ionized Water to cause this PH flip and kill/prevent cancer. Ionized Water also benefits the digestive tract, skeletal, and other systems.

Your nanotech thing, I can deal with, but "ionized water", blood electrifiers, and similar devices are complete crap, as is changing the pH of your blood.
Electrolysis of water produces 2 things: hydrogen, and oxygen. The problem is, H and O bond better than a group of Ecstasy users at summer camp. This means that when you electrify the water, the elements spilt, then recombine. Furthurmore, your body likes its blood pH ~7, which is the pH of water (neutral). So, any attempt to change the pH will result in your body firing up your organs to remedy the situation to preserve homeostasis. This will return your "electrified blood" back to it's original pH (usually about 7.3-ish).
Or, let me put it this way: You're promoting the medical equivallent of Scientology. stressed

Whoa whoa whoa. Hold up. "Ionized water"? That just doesn't sound right. Water can contain ions, but as my busty blond friend pointed out, eletrolysis would be completely useless. I should also point out that about 54% of your blood is water, with the rest being what are called "formed elements" (salts, RBCs, platelets, etc) floating in it. If you seperate the H and the O in your blood, you just turned the liquid component of your blood into gas.

Alkaline (or Basic, as I learned it) solutions cancel out acidity by reducing it to water and salt ions. As for Cancer, you probably should've read up on what cancer actually is: a mutation of cells. The mutation effectively disables the gene that is responsible for killing off old cells (P35), and increases mitosis. You'd have to specifically target the cancer cells, otherwise you'd just wipe out all of the other cells; this is what chemo therapy does.

According to Wiki, he's more of a computer geek than a doctor. He cooked up some wonderful speech recognition programs, but a medical practitioner he is not. Afterall, if you're a Dr., you're going to want to stick it in front of your name as much as possible.

Just like hydrogen, oxygen, and regular tap water. Water itself (the regular variety) is actually one of the best forms of detox.

Well, to the book's defense, it's slightly out dated. It's printing date is 2004, so some of the information it has may be out dated to varying degrees. I didn't mean to come in here and sound like I'm full of it. lol. But, if I'm wrong then I can accept that. No biggie. But, thanks for letting me know without hazing me in the process.

I know. I just hate seeing people fall for that kind of stuff. It presents itself as legitimate science, but the "renegade Dr.s" that promote this kind of stuff are traitors to their craft. Cancer can't be cured by eating some magical salad or hooking yourself up to an RC car battery. I just wish the GP was better educated on cancer.

Jack actually did a surprisingly thorough job of explaining it, but he's not the jealous type so I don't think he meant to come after you either.

I didn't feel hazed by him either. Oh, and Kurzwiel didn't actually submit any medical information to Fantastic Voyage - It was co-written by Terry Grey, a doctor at Harvard Medical. It actually says in the book its self that its info can could be out dated, or proven to be false by the time the reader gets it in their head.

I'm sorry, Jack, that I didn't respond to you directly. I know I should have.

At any rate, I've become addicted to green tea. I drink at least 5 glasses of it every day. On top of a couple glasses of water too.

I agree with all this, except that the gateway gene you mentioned is p53, and cancer requires multiple mutations in a cell. Just a p53 mutation won't give you cancer, you need several other pertinent mutations. p53 is incredibly important though, and a great majority of cancers lose this gene's function.

Jack gets enough attention from me, trust me on this wink xd .
Green tea is certainly a popular health product, probably because of it's simplicity. The only real threat in green tea is the caffeine, but that's a threat in whatever beverage contains it. The important thing to keep in mind is that it isn't a cure-all; proper diet and regular exercise are also key to a healthy, cancer-free lifestyle.

But that's where you're mistaken, my friend. Because, I don't drink uber caffeinated arizona green tea, I drink real green tea. I buy it from the occult shop down the street from me. mrgreen

Really? According to Wiki, 35 is the executioner while 53 prevents mutations/tumors.
