Artificial intelligence fascinates me for a long time. And I create this new topic so we can share informations, discuss the technology and philosophy behind it and maybe work on some projects together. Let's hope that many people are interested in it too.
Do you have any ideas, anything to say about it or recommendations?
Feel free to share it!
Our instructors at the college keep on telling us to not to insist to learn deeply about it until we get our diplomas.

AI is a highly involved subject because you're trying to emulate something that not even specialist neurology doctors understand fully yet.

If we can't understand what we're trying to emulate, that makes it all the damned harder to hit the "sweet spot" of AI.

I suggest studying "good" and "bad" examples in video games to see how it works first before even trying to craft AI yourself.

The War Games also touches on AI in a rather good way if films are more your thing.

I don't know any good books on AI so can't help there.

If I'm gonna benefit from that, yes smile

Of course, it's freakin' hard to create AI.
But that doesn't mean that people shouldn't try.
And experts were beginners too when they started to learn something.
That's why I thought it would be a good idea to post an open topic and when also people take part who don't have that much experience yet. Or do you know anything that speaks against it?

I'm saying to pay attention to what has gone before so you can build on it and not repeat the mistakes others have made in the past. I forgot how bad humans were at this.
The field of robotics and neurocybernetics are topics that are gradually becoming more omnipresent, and are pretty fascinating fields in my opinion. It's interesting to see discussions pertaining to the topics of neuroprosthetics (ie. robotic limbs as replacements for amputation), artificial intelligence and the future concepts that have been presented in the form of designs and concept art. Also, to see how these concepts are accepted as well as interpreted for daily use in today's society is also a strive in social awareness and acceptance of the existence of such technological concepts.

Anyways, Check out this video from TedxTalks

The concept of the primitive robotics in the video remind me of the development of machine learning within AI

Feel free to let me know your thoughts if you found it just as interesting or disturbing in some way.

Sure! But isn't that common sense? Even humans can do that.. sometimes.
Nobody said we shouldn't check that first. That is part of the plan. 3nodding

this is a really interesting topic, and may have more success if presented in the Extended Discussion for more in-depth discussion/debate sweatdrop
IVF creates pretty good AI

Thank you! I've read a few articles about her work but I've never seen the video before.
Yeah, it's interesting to see how people start to be more open for those things.
Maybe we are ready for bigger projects soon.
The Chaos Computer Club made a very good radio show about it here in Berlin.
You can download the episode. But it's in German language.

I think getting the idea out there for people to consider through arguments and debates is usually one way to go about spreading awareness. For example, I remember being directly introduced to the concept of stem cell research through a class that asked us "Is stem cell research ethical?" -- I won't get into the morality of the topic, however it's these sorts of discussions, I feel, help to bright about thoughtfulness and various perspectives on the matter.
It would be encouraging to think that we could better apply our resources to advance our research and education in fields of studies, such as computer science, pharmaceutical, or bio-engineering for said projects.

Sounds interesting..If the radio show is on Youtube, I'll have to check it out sometime. Thanks for sharing.

Whenever I think of AI, I always get reminded of films like I, Robot, or similar ones where the computers decide that the human species is dangerous and needs eradicating.
