You've completely invalidated the mastery the Mayans had on the universe around them!

They were able to meticulously figure out the cycle of eclipses, planet alignments, and various other things. One of them being that Earth comes into alignment with the center of the galaxy. They were right, it does in fact happen on December 21st, 2012.

What does that mean? Absolutely nothing. The Mayans were an incredibly advanced society and they discovered this cycle and built their calendar around it. Does it mean the end of the world? No, it's just the end of the first cycle.

Please don't bash one of the greatest civilizations to walk the Earth, their accomplishments were monumental. mrgreen

Pole shifts are random, they have NOTHING to do aligning with the center of the universe, it would just be a vast coincidence. In fact some scientists do believe the Earth could be in the process of a pole shift, though there is not a lot of scientific data to back it up at this time.

If the Mayans were so smart, where are they today?

Actually this is a very good point, if Mayans were so advanced and high tech, why6 arnet they still aroubnd, and what makes there prophecy's correct? Nostradamus aloso said 12/12/12, but he could have simply gotten that from the Mayans, all of the theory's have been killed, so guess what? Nothing will happen.

If one can accurately predict the future and one predicts his or her own demise, he or she cannot escape that demise without disproving his or her accuracy in predicting the future.
It has been proven that many of the worlds leading psychics cannot see anything past 2012.

It's been proven that psychics won't take tests to prove themselves and the ones that have were all outed as frauds. smile

Seriously this is a science board. Leave the superstitious and supernatural bull at the door.

I feel good. And good god, I almost wrote something so TMI I surprised even myself. Why do you have that effect on people?

Why are we debating the validity of a hyped-up superstitious prediction in the Science and Technology forum?

i think it's just a belief and won't happen ^^ nothing happened on, for example: y2k

ummm random PM's are okie too

another fact is that pole shifts take 5000 years to complete.
If a pole shift actually occured that day, then it would not be until December 21, 7012 for it to complete. You won't be alive by then.

^^ Thats what I was thinking lol!
I don't believe anything major will happen then besides the everyday risks of peoples bidding smile (Although it is very possible for something to happen, but it probably will be unrelated to that date.)

LOL who the heck believes such a thing anyways? ._.

I mean, come on!! D:

Those who believe it, let's sit and wait - see if it really happens XD

-sigh- I think you got the bastardized version. Quetzalcoatl told his people about an event that would happen on that date. recent events, that actually happened this past week or two, actually caused the 2012 event to happen three years earlier: the end of 2009.

I'm not looking forward to this.

The theory comes from a mad idea that a brown dwarf star will come by with a planet called Nibiru

i think this should clear up any questions

Actually, said alignment occurred in 1997, the Mayans were brilliant for their era but they weren't smarter than we are now, they were 15 years off.

This prediction caused quite a scare last year. One guy was like 'I DON'T WANNA DIIIIIIEEE' and had a mental breakdown. xD

In theory, any thing is possible. But that was just crazy. Our science teacher said those words and completely proved it wrong. So, when 2012 comes, I'm not nervous. I'll just enjoy the London Olympics.
